I'm mixing this today to drink tomorrow. Which flavor and
do you have personal experience?

Wow! One person? You guys are stunningly young!
Good for you. I'm doing this because I'm 50 so watch out,
your turn is coming someday!
Katie Couric chose lemon-lime. I guess that's the way
I'll go.

have hard candy around that will kill the flavor....no matter what flavor it is gross! Oh, yeah and no red colored candies or jello, etc...messes up the testing!

Good luck! (and I'm not in the typically age bracket for this testing....just really bad genes!)

It's the stuff you drink a gallon of(no joke) before you
have a colonoscopy.

Oh! Yikes, it doesn't sound too pleasent at all. I hope you can put lots of ice in it, lots and lots of ice!

Good luck with your test, I hope all is okay. :)

I thought it was a new protein shake on the market or something. :p

I chose lemon lime when I had to drink it

I had to take that test 3 weeks ago. The stuff I had to drink was in a tiny bottle called ash something and it came in lemon lime and plain. I got the lemon lime and it was like drinking concentrated sea water. I had to mix 2 ounces of it with 5 ounces of water and drink it down. Then follow it by another 8 ounces of your favorite drink. 4 hours later I had to do it all over again. To say it is putrid is an understatement. I guess because it is almost pure salt it makes it taste so bad. Anyway drinking that was 100 times worse then the actual test. I had a real anestheisologist knock me totally out. It was great! It was over in 15 minutes and I was in and out of the place in one hour. I am only 42 and had to have this test as colon cancer runs in my family. The test itself was a breeze. Good luck!

I had a colonoscopy at the end of April and chose the cherry flavor of Colyte. I don't think any flavor is good, though. I tried a couple of glasses mixed with orange Tang, it didn't make it any better. I found that if I had a large gulp of the Colyte followed by a large gulp of water, I could get it down easier. I probably drank 2/3's of the gallon and was all set.

I just want to say that I'm 33 and had the procedure done as a follow up to a surgery I had back in 1998. I had 18 in. of my small intestine removed, and they had found a couple of poylps then. During my 2 1/2 hour procedure (which I stayed awake during and watched), they removed 7 more. The biopsies came back as benign, which was great news. However, we discovered that I have a defect called Peutz-Jaghers syndrome which causes my body to develop tumors (ie. cancers) more frequently than others.

Looks like I'll be enjoying Colyte every 2 years now (I'll get to try every flavor) as part of the screening process I will have to continue throughout my life. I think it was a blessing in disguise that I caught this early; now I can keep current on my mamograms, colonoscopies, etc. to detect any early signs of cancer.

Thanks for listening :sunny:

I've had the cherry a couple of times and then the last time I had the lemon lime salty stuff in a small bottle-it was the most disgusting thing I have ever tasted.

My Dr. said that they have a pill out now that will "clean you out" and that maybe next time I will try that.

I also have to go in often. My brother died of colon cancer.

It's no fun but well worth the peace of mind.

Good luck with your test.

Is it just me, or did a post go missing in the beginning?

I second that the drink and effects are worse than the actual test! Also, I dont know how Katie Couric was awake for the test...I was in complete la-la-land! zzzzz....

Glad they caught it in time for you. I now know that it is better to get it over with just in case. When I had my test last month they found one precancerous tumor. They said that another 6 months and it probably would have developed into cancer. I also have one benign polyp. Because of the precancerous one and my family history I have to get the test every year. After going through it the first time I now see it is so simple and not scary like I thought. Of course getting knocked out really helped! Maybe you can ask the doctor for the Fleet phosoda. You only take 2 ounces mixed with water twice in one day. There is no need to take gallons of the stuff. You can then drink your favorite liquids the rest of the time. I remember my DH having to drink the jug of stuff. He couldn't believe how easy I got off drinking two small glasses. It was still enough to gag though~

I had to do the salty stuff too. The first bottle went down ok mixed with Sprite that I blended with ice in the blender. The second bottle went down, and came right back up. It was too awful. My Dad did the colyte and said it was better. My Dr. said that with the pills, you have to take upwards of 20 of them. I didn't think I could do that either. Luckily, my test came out "clean" and I am done for 10 years. BTW - I was 40 when I did the test due to some symptoms that turned out to be nothing. Phew!

Didnt aanswer the poll since I dont think any tastes good. My first 2 I had to drink the coloyte, the next 2 I had fleets phospate to drink. That is horrible too but you dont drink as much. I tell everyone the prep is worst then the test. I am 53 but started having the tests done as my brother had prostrate cancer & also colon polyps. When I had my test I have polyps. Just have to keep checking to make sure no problems. I would rather take the test than miss catching cancer in an early stage

OH BOY! I'm REALLY looking forward to this now!
Guess I'll get through it as have you all.
I'll report in when I'm done on Monday.
Thanks!
