Columbus, Ohio and surrounding areas .... when to visit, what to do?

Thanks for the ideas so far! My kids won't be with me though ... it will just be me on a business trip. I will be shopping of course (I shop everywhere! :rotfl2: ), but wondered what else I should experience while in the area.

If you want to shop and shop well, stay at the Hilton or Marriott Ctyd at Easton Towne Center. Great shopping, great restaurants, great layout. We spend a night there every Christmas vacation just to wander around and have some fun. Harry and David's markdowns are just wonderful for in-room snaks!!! There's a Gameworks, and really big movie theatre, a comedy club and more right there.

That sounds cool - I'll have to check it out on the net!

I live about 30 minutes SE of Columbus. I have two favorite destinations in Ohio. One is Amish country in Holmes County. There is great shopping for arts and crafts and restaurants with great food not to mention the beautiful Amish farms and countryside. My second favorite place to visit is north around the Port Clinton and Sandusky area. Cedar Point Amusement park is there but my favorite spot in that area is taking a ferry over to the Lake Erie islands to Put-in-Bay or Kelley's Island. It is great fun riding a golf cart around the island, shopping, visiting the wineries and the caves, going on top of Perry's Monument and looking at the beautiful scenery. My husband has been to the Bahamas several times and he always compares the atmosphere there to the Bahamas. The weekends are party times but during the week it is very relaxing and family oriented.

too bad you're not taking your kids....the all-american soap box derby
is being held the third weekend of july. besides having children racing
from all over the world [europe, japan.and even down under], it is
sponsered by nascar.jimmie johnson is the national spokeperson.
frequently more than one driver visit and they have their own lil
race. and they signed autographs [ ive gotten several for the kids
in my program...like tony stewart. {you won't believe how nice he
was to the kids}. also home depot has had free wooden kits for the
kids and all kind of give aways. big foot was there one year and car
shows. then there is the goodyear blimp...one year they flew it out
to the camp where the "champions" were staying.... :cool1: . and
if go the monday before the race is the "welcoming cermonies"..
police escort and all...and the champions throw out all kind of neat
stuff from their home town..p.s. did i mentioned celebrities...
like tv stars, olympic/sports stars, and astronauts? yep, we got
stuck on the elevators in 2001 with the girl that played one of
the "bradys", and others..my wife blamed me for squeezing on. but
the point is,,this is a very special time for kids.
then six flags near by with the killer whales...talk about a nice mimi-
vacation.!!! :thumbsup2
