Colorado and Kansas Ideas

We are going to Mt Rushmore. Initially we were going to also go to Yellowstone but we don't think we have enough days planned to do both Mt Rushmore and Yellowstone. We have decided to go South and hit Colorado and then thru Kansas on the way home. Any must sees on I70

Where are you getting on I-70? What road are you taking south from Mt Rushmore? I-25? There isn't much off I-70 once you are east of Denver. But if you are coming down I-25, there are some nice day trips not *too* far west such as Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park.

Manhattan Kansas has the Konza Prairie and the Flint Hills Discovery Center. Wamego Kansas has the OZ museum.

Abilene Kansas has the Eisenhower museum. All are off of I-70

Rock City, not great but kids love it and it’s worth seeing because it’s such a contrast to flat fields.

Lots of great stuff in the Denver/northern Colorado area. Rocky Mountain National Park is fantastic.

I am from Missouri and just try to drive as fast I the law will allow through Kansas on 70. I can point you to some fantastic BBQ places in KC. KC also has some great stuff....Schlitterbahn water park, Nascar track, Worlds of Fun, etc that is worth a stop on the way home.

The only other T-Rex restaurant (besides the one in downtown disney) is in Kansas City not too far off I-70. We were just there a couple weeks ago and it is fun

Best bargain in Colorado is along I-70: The Kit Carson Carousel. It's a perfect stop for a picnic lunch and you can ride the historic carousel for a quarter!

Definitely worth the stop, especially with little ones!

Assuming you're turning South from SD (and not going into WY first), I suggest stopping at the Oregon Trail museum & lookout in Scotts Bluff, NE. There is also an antique farm equipment museum there, but we didn't check that out.

Warning, heading South into Scotts Bluff, there is a 72 mile stretch with no gas stations or restrooms. You're skirting the Sand Hills though, and it's more scenic than I expected for NE
