Cheating and stealing is so rampant, is it really a crime?

Good question when after the 2008 housing crisis no one went to jail even after fraud that was so massive it crashed the world economy into a depression.

Allegedly, they didn't know it was any more illegal than donating and buying a wing for the college.

One guy went to prison. Apparently just this one guy. The article also explains why there were few prosecutions. They relied more on civil settlements and didn't have the prosecutorial experience to go after these cases.

I read something on FB, I didn't open the link, but thought, "if this is true, I am disgusted!"

It was saying some black woman deliberately sent her son to a better school in a different district, and she was sentenced to 12 years. TWELVE YEARS!!!! If this is true, can we please reserve prison space for real criminals? How did they come up with 12 years for something like that? How did they come up with jail time at all???

Huffman's DD was upset that her mom didn't have enough faith in her for the DD to try to get into college on her own. Then received notice that she wasn't accepted to her first choice -- a college that doesn't use SAT scores. I hope the family counseling will help.

He's barred from being an officer in a publicly held company, but I guess there's nothing that prevents him from working otherwise. I'm pretty sure that he's barred from taking on any role advising anyone on securities trading.

Is this the same woman who was caught selling drugs to an undercover officer twice?
Answered my own question, I thought maybe they reduced her sentence for the falsifying school records, but this is not the same woman.

I'm just shocked that anyone would give him money. I wouldn't trust him.

I think the justice department figured the whole thing would blow over and cause minimal public outrage. They were right. Most people will just blame the immigrants and poor people.

Same thing is happening all over again. The same firms are selling private label mortgage backed securities. The same level of fraud isn't occurring yet but give it time. The dishonest people at the Wall St. firms will claim no one got arrested last time, the firm will make plenty of money, and when the system crashes again the US Government will bail us out.

She is a drug dealer. I am so happy she was jailed. I wish she had to serve a longer sentence.

Not the case in the Akron area. There was a case in NJ where someone was sentenced to 5 years, but it ran concurrently with a drug sentence. That seemed to be mostly symbolic since it would have added time.

Correction: the case was in Connecticut. The judge could have suspended that sentence and she would have served the same amount of time just based on the drug convictions.

On the two counts of sale of narcotics, the judge then sentenced her to 12 years, suspended after she serves five years and followed by five years probation. The sentence is to run concurrently with a five-year sentence she received in the Norwalk case.​
