College Care Packages~ UPDATE

I got home from work today and saw a TON (20 to be exact....) of huge cardboard boxes on my front steps! I couldnt remember ordering anything.....:confused3

DD and I get out of the car and make sure they were truely addressed to US (SHE was busy saying we must have won the lottery :rotfl2: )

Yep ~ my name and address on ALL 20 BOXES with the words "LARGE FRB" written on the sides :rolleyes1

Turns out those 20 flate rate boxes I ordered from the post office (to have on hand for convience sake.....) to send DS's care packages..... were not 20 INDIVIDUAL boxes but were 20 BUNDLES of 25 boxes each (for a total of 500!!!) :scared1:

what the hell did I just do????? :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Anybody need a box? :rolleyes1 :faint:

:wish80 of BOXES would DISAPPEAR!!!!

send us each something fun! The first 500 people to sign up......

thats a lot of boxes- the post office thinks they hit the shipping jackpot with you.
I loved to get "mail" in college. I would even sign up to receive the monthly lunch menu so I would know (and highlight) in advance my favorites. Mom would send the packages the school made up during the holidays. Decorations for each holiday are great- I loved my little fake tree for christmas. I also grew an amarylis. It was fun to watch it grow and then bloom. my bff's dad would send crazy stuff- one was a army theme with camo shirts and a boot camp fitness cassette tape with all those songs they run to and MRE's (spam & tuna) he wrapped the box in a paper sack and smudged it up a bit. He also found an old volvo spedometer and put a light in it- at first we though what the heck, but it was always on and one of my favorite package memories and it wasn't even mine.
Send STAMPS as well as some generic cards- birthday, holiday, thank you, blank
microwave stuff was always a hit
temporary tattoo

How did he put a light in a spedometer? Sounds pretty kool :cool2:

So my son just called and said his friends want to make me the "Dorm Mom"
ROTFLMAO :rotfl2:

guess they want cookies army men and silly string too! Maybe it was the Q-Tips razors and deoderant?? :lmao:

I've been reading this thread for a couple days now and wanted to tell you all about the stuff I just got and see if it would make goodies for my freshman DS. At CVS, they had all the 2/$1 back to school goodies for 75% off. I got lots of stuff for .13 each!!! There were mini playing cards, clips that you hook keys to your belt loop, pens, small mechanical pencils, and crayon shaped erasers. I also bought a pack of 50 temporary tribal tattoos for $3.99 and some glow in the dark vampire teeth for .99 and also three packs of hot hands for the football games for .99 each. I'm going to get some of the small packs of play-dough to put in the box and maybe some nerf balls too.

Does this sound like fun for him?

I think college kids can have fun with ANYTHING!!! ;)

I've got my Halloween packages all made up - now does anyone have any great ideas for Thanksgiving? I picked up a "pin the hat on the turkey" game at Target today - and some notepads.... foam pilgrim hats and silk fall leaves....

Tough holiday!

hershey kisses wrapped in the fall colors -- do they have carael ones? of the makings for caramel apples - they have kits for this

So DS got "the Package" (#2) of paratroopers earlier in the week ~ 96:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Thought that might throw his game off a bit.......so I asked him to make a youtube video for me of the 'troops in various troubled situations......:lmao:

Guess the final verdict is releasing them at a MSU basketball or football game! :lmao: :lmao:

I told him to make sure it was a televised game and it was all good. So if you happen to be watching an MSU game and see a bunch of parachute floating down....... It was DS :lovestruc

I'm preparing my green and white box for arrival on/before October 4th now :thumbsup2

MSU Sweatshirt

wintergreen gum

green gorrilla w/ velcro hands

whiteout

green m&m's

green basketball shorts

white "glass" marker (for game days etc)

army parachute men (with a request that he make me a video and post it on youtube) :3dglasses
I LOVE THIS IDEA GO GREEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Green sharpie
Green highlighter
Green apple suckers (stores have them in for halloween)
Ghost decorations - dual purpose.... white and can use for holiday LOL
Mints- I think lifesavers makes wintergreen ones that are white mints in green
Green and white streamers
Green silly string
White sticky notes
Green calculator (or white) Walmart has these for $1 (add up the points)
fleece blanket short notice but you might get lucky finding one
GREEN SLIME (older kids love this - dollar store!!)
Green noise putty (makes *ahem* noises) also dollar store
Green and white balloons

if you both have a wal-mart near by, you can get a re-load card.... you send one part to the student and the parents or gift giver keeps the other part, then each week or month you can re-load the card with how ever much money you can afford to load it with. My daughter although has graduated still calls for help with food, so every week after I food shop, what ever I save in coupons or go under budget then get re-loaded on her card:rotfl: :rotfl: and the nice thing is you can call the card company and see how much was left on it.....so you know if you need to re-load, that way they have the shipping cost money from shipping a box to add to the money amount....

All great ideas! I especially like the green apple sucker idea! We live in Florida now and they call them "lolly pops" here! DD(15) said "MMMMM This is a good sucker" and all her friends burst out laughing! :rotfl2: They placed the emphasis on the word "good" in their minds and it sounded totally different! Sorta like soda and pop I guess. We still get weird looks ordering "pop" :lmao:

I managed to get a Brita water pitcher and extra filters into the large flat rate box! :cool1: This should really help with bottled water expense and they have a small fridge to keep it cold!

I stuffed the inside of the pitcher with a few new pairs of basketball shorts and threw in some microwave popcorn to fill out any empty space :thumbsup2

I live in East Lansing and am an MSU grad (U of M Law grad, too). It is a great place to be a student and to have a family. We can't wait for the Homecoming parade on Friday, etc.

The better movie theater is at Eastwood Town Center and it is an NCG Cinema theater. You can go on-line to get GC's. Although, I must say that MSU did (and does) a really nice job of running free movies on campus at various venues -- relatively recent releases.

Pack homemade cookies in a plastic container -- like a ziplock reusable -- separate the cookies with wax paper and put in a couple slices of apple. The apple is not to be eaten later, but will keep the cookies moist and yummy. My grandmother did that when she sent care packages with Monster cookies to me in Wilson Hall in the early 1980's. There is nothing like homemade cookies to make you the most popular person on your floor.

Thanks for all the info! Knowing which movie theatre is the best will be a big help! :woohoo:

The Homecoming green and white package went over well! He happened to have a friend from Florida visiting when it arrived so the micro popcorn was gone instantly :rotfl:

What's next???? Any brilliant "wow" ideas out there??? :worship:
