College Care Packages~ UPDATE

I sometimes call the local Pizza place and have them deliver a pizza to my son. He loves it when I do that! I even put the tip in. (use a CC). I also shop for him at American Eagle, his favorite store and have the clothes sent to him. I have sent the usual goodies, snacks and candy. I also took a picture of his girl friend and put it in a frame that you can record on and had his GF leave a message. (She lives near us). Gift cards including gas cards so he can come home for a visit!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this idea! I think Smidgen said there is a papa johns right there (happens to be his favorite......:cool1: )

Maybe I'll just call him and find out if he's in his dorm while placing an order online.......:worship:

My mom used to send already made brownies and cookies - the best care package you could ever receive!!!!

As for a sled - you can totally send one via US Postal mail and it doesn't have to be in a box. As long as they can put postage on it, you can send it! I have a friend who used to send a toilet seat around among her family and friends - it was all part of a joke of course. They would write messages on it and send it on to the next person. Weird, I know...but funny!

I think DS might disown me if I sent him a toilet seat......but it would be worth it potentially :rotfl2:

Package number one (the first in what I hope will be monthly installments....:wizard: ) ARRIVED TODAY

I am officially THE COOLEST MOM EVER :hippie: :rotfl:

I think the cookies and the individual brownie mixes (microwave) were the biggest hit followed closely by the silly string and water balloons :santa:

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU

Any more tips out there for the (next) box??

PS Smidgen....the cookies arrived in one piece :worship:

So now I just places a "pre-order" at papa johns to be delivered to his dorm tomorrow night 9he is going to a concert tonight....)

Should I space them out a bit.......:rotfl2: I really hope he doesn't feel stalked :lmao:

But IT IS FOOD.......and I know my baby boy.......;)

I'm so glad he liked his first care package. I was online wondering if you had mailed one yet. I'm sure the pizza was well received too. I can't wait to see what you put together for the next one.

that is awesome! I know he'll love it. The pizza was a great treat after the game yesterday...we smoked Notre Dame.

When he makes the video I'd love to see it if you don't mind!

Yes...he's the oldest. I have a 15 year old daughter still at home who is having a VERY hard time  ~ they were really close and still talk several times a day.:lovestruc

I just had a thought...maybe your DD would enjoy putting a box together for him too. I bet that would mean a lot to him.

(I wish I had the art of multiquote down.....:headache: )

Another great idea pirate:

I bet she would love to be able to get in on the action! She made him a video on her phone and transfered it to a cd to send. SHe had to quit filming 3 times to stop herself from crying to continue :sad2:

My mom sends
Popcorn, nail clippers (every package, which is once a month, mine dont last long) gc's and coupons, and FM tape (more comonly known as johnson ans johnson first aid tape, pulls out slivers, and gives you a whitehead on a zit overnight, also takes out finger soreness from nibbling them). I wish she would send sharpies, i loose these alot.

Just sent a Halloween package inside it had ,one of those witches that looks like they are flying into a wall a sign that reads "ghouls just want to have fun," a couple of packages of those gel window decoration, black and orange crepe paper, spooky plastic drinking glasses , silly Halloween headband, Halloween shirt and socks, ice cube tray, microwavable Carmel apple kit, a light up pumpkin for her desk, and a scary laughing pirate to hang from some place. I think there were a few other things but I can't remember what else.

I really like the theme boxes dd school colors are red and white so I think I may do that next.

You might try Oriental Trading.com

This place has lots of stuff in batches similar to the stuff you'd win at Chuck E Cheese, etc. Anyway, it's cheap type fun stuff that you get in dozens rather than just one so there is plenty to share.

I just have to say to all you Mom's doing the care packages... you ROCK!! I never once received a care package during my time at college. :sad2:

I'll check them out right now! :woohoo: I used to shop them often when my kids were small and for vbs stuff

I did put nail clippers in the last box ~ never thought of them as needing monthly replacement :scared1: ;)

Sharpies are a great idea! Anything you HATE to get????:rolleyes1

I'm sending care packages out next week with a Halloweenish Theme. I've included a couple packages of the gel window decorations, Orange mini-sharpie, tiny beeny baby teddy bear in costume, small pack of sour patch candy, Halloween pez dispenser, purple mini net body sponge and small bottle of Moonlight Path shower gel. Hope to come up with a few more items, but want to be able to fit it all in a padded mailing envelope. Along with DD, i'm sending the same to her 2 best friends and my niece. I've sent cookies a couple times.

Has anyone shipped any kind of perishable food using dry ice? DD would love a pizza from her favorite place here - they sell them frozen, but i'm not sure shipping is a real possibility.

I just mailed 25 pounds of rubber balls. I have no idea what a college kid can do with them, but if anyone can have good fun with them, it will be a college kid. I know they have used water cannons on the next dorm over. Maybe rubber balls will launched next.
