I know you don't usually hear about acceptances until April, but I thought maybe some of you have heard.

It just doesn't seem right that you have to wait so long :grouphug:

I applied to graduate school (for Speech Language Pathology) so it's completely different but it's still college :goodvibes

Our choice has to be made by April 15th, a little sooner then Undergrad.

I was accepted to Penn State so far. I am still waiting to hear back from 4 other schools (Hunter, Queens, UMass and University of Maryland).

I will visit the schools during my spring break and hopefully have more of a ranking in my head (I dont have a first choice  ).

Good Luck everyone! :wizard:

It's nice to have one acceptance while waiting for the others, Congratulations, and Good Luck to You!

Is the April date Northeast centric or are Southern schools just different? There are very few North Carolina and South Carolina schools -- the ones I know the most about -- that didn't notify kids months ago if they applied early. At UNC Chapel Hill, students hear at the end of January if they applied by December 1 and the end of March if they apply by the January deadline. Many schools have rolling admission, that is they evaluate applications as they receive them. The interesting thing about those schools is that in recent years, it has gotten significantly HARDER to get in as it gets further along in the year -- the guidance counselors strongly recommend applying right after school starts in the senior year. The schools sort of hedge their bets on applications that might still be coming in by waitlisting quite a few students.

Duke and Davidson do have the April 1 notification.

My son heard from his school in November. We've already signed up for housing, paid a deposit and scheduled summer orientation.

My nephew in CT heard from all four schools he applied to by January. My DS was accepted to Salisbury University, a Maryland state school, in December and to University of Maryland on February 17. Now we are waiting for the financial aide packages. We got one from Salisbury but Maryland's don't come out until April 1.

I know people still waiting to hear from University of Delaware and NYU.

I want the decision to be made. :hourglass

Heard from one, waiting for three. One should have notified on March 15, so we might get that in the mail today or tomorrow. The other two are April 1. Can't wait for this process to be over!!!!

Oh, me too! My son got his acceptances to 3 of the 4 schools he'd applied to, and made his choice of those three. The 4th school was a reach, and they said they'd let us know April 1, so we've been just sitting tight, but my son was convinced he wouldn't get in so I think we were all mentally preparing for the other school.
Yesterday he was accepted to the reach school :Pinkbounc ! He was thrilled, I was thrilled for him, but now he has to make a choice. The schools are similar in many ways (including costs) but very different in other ways. Personally I think the non-reach school is a much better match for him, but I have to watch what I say because I graduated from there, and if I push too hard he'll use that fact as an excuse not to go  . So I keep my mouth zipped.

Honestly, I think either school would be great. I just want to get that decision behind us!

My son got accepted to an out of state college.

It is frustrating to hear from colleges with financial aid packages. Some wait till almost the middle of May. I am suppose to send in $250 dollars to secure a dorm room and another $55 for orientation.

My son doesn't want to live in the dorms, he would rather get an apartment, but this school mandates 2 years of living in the dorms. We did question the dorm situation. You can file why you don't want to live in the dorms, but your excuse has to be that either you live with your parents or you are financially unable to do so.

My oldest daughter attends this university, so my son knows what the dorms are like, but she said the last 2 years, the dorms are so packed, that they have 3 to a room, instead of 2. So they have been letting 2nd year students off campus. I don't see how a university can mandate that you have to stay in a dorm. If you don't stay in a dorm, they drop your classes. (This is the only thing I don't agree with, with this school).

Good luck to everyone....

My DD is sending out transfer aplications and hoping for scholarships.....

My son applied to four schools last fall and was accepted at all of them. He decided on the University of North Texas and we have already turned in his housing deposit and a request for room mate. His best friend has been accepted also and they want to room together. Now to sign up for orientation.....

My DS has only applied (and been accepted) to one college and that one is in-state. He is on a waiting list for a full-ride scholarship.....which he could still get before school starts if other people who got accepted decide to go somewhere else.

It is frustrating because a college in Texas is offering him more than a full-ride and a school in Arkansas is offering him a full-ride....but he doesn't want to leave the state and we don't want him to. **sigh**

Hi Lynn,

DD's heard from 3, still waiting for 2 more.

Accepted at Georgetown, UCLA, and University of Colorado-Boulder. How's that for variety, and two coasts to boot?!?! :) The other 2 are very much "reaches", but hey, it's all a crap shoot so who knows what will happen?

The waiting is killing me more so than her. I'm not a patient person. DD's attitude mirrors that of her classmates "Accept me or reject me-just decide!"

Good Luck to everyone!!

DS James applied for and was granted early admission to the BS/MD program at Youngstown State University. We've already gotten the bill for his first semester's room and board. He will start college on June 19th (just 3 weeks after high school graduation). No WDW vacation for him this summer.

My college mandated living in the dorms for one year. Boy, am I glad I did. It really helped to get adjusted to college life, especially socially. I have great memories of living in Connor Dorm for two years.

Good luck everyone. I'm still about 4 years away from this waiting game, but I'm definitely intrigued by the process.

Oh, my.....I was planning to take DS to WDW for a grad present.....I am not sure we have checked into the start of school....better take a look! (Funny, inexperienced parents are we!) :rotfl:

DS has to live on-campus the first year of school. He's OK with that as he's only 17 right now. I'm sure, after that first year, he will be eager to move to an apartment! :teeth:

My son was offered very good merit scholarships at two of the schools he applied to. Of course, those are the two he's decided against :confused3 .

The other schools are both state schools so we'll manage. His grades were just a little too low for scholarships with them, although he had the SAT scores. The criteria is written in stone.

Only one school has sent us any financial aid information. I'm new to this stuff, I really need to figure it out!

Good luck everyone! I remember how nerve wracking this process was for me fifteen years ago. It has only become worse and I really feel for the applicants and their families. I interview applicants to my alma mater and it is crazy how complex and stressful the college application process has become.

Our son applied and was accepted in December. He also filled out the housing application and got his first choice of interest groups. This college has several first year interest groups that live in the same dorm; they also take freshman English and one other class together (built-in study groups!). The professors for each group also serve as mentors. They're really focused on helping new students adjust and succeed.

The nice thing about him going to an in-state school is that Georgia's Hope Scholarship pays for his tuition & fees. DS is applying for a couple of other scholarships offered by DH's employer and by mine, but we won't know about those for a month or two.

Our older DS will be getting his BBA in Accounting in May, and is applying to graduate school. Unfortunately, the Hope scholarship won't cover graduate school tuition. :sad2:

My oldest only applied to 2 and got his acceptance letters pretty quickly. Now he is trying to decide which on he will go to.
