I saw these in Walmart yesterday. A silver cooler, under $30, that says '5 days' on it. Do any of you camping families own one of these? What do you think?
I'm not sure if it will keep things frozen for 5 days, or if it will just stay chilled for 5 days. I was thinking this would be a great way to transport frozen, pre-cooked items (for the crockpot maybe?), or even ground beef and hot dogs. Ice cream?
Any comments on this? Thanks!

I'm looking forward to reviews about this cooler too. I bought one of these, but I haven't used it yet. During my last camping trip, I was having to buy ice two times per day to keep my cooler food cold. This one just has to work better than my old one.

There was a thread last yr about these coolers try doing a search, it may turn up or one of the other posters is sure to find it and link it for you (I'm technically challenge and admit it)

We now have two Extreme coolers. We purchased a small one to test and liked it so much we purchased the larger model also. Five days frozen solid is a dream, but they have worked very well and reduced the need for ice.

We generally pack lots of frozen items and use them as they thaw. Ice cream is out, it would be soup in a day or so.

As with any cooler you have to follow the rules; like starting with all pre-chilled items and not leaving the top open.

All our old coolers have now been retired.

We too have one of the extreme/max coolers -- not sure if it is Coleman.

We love ours! I have to say in extreme heat the 5 days is a DREAM but the call for ice is greatly decreased.

We use our cooler mainly for soda, milk, water. We also try to keep the cooler in a shaded spot as much as we can. Our old cooler (which we still take) required ice everyday. The new extreme/max (?) cooler needed ice but still had VERY COLD water with a little ice after about 4 days. DH did take it this winter and the ice stayed for over a week (then again it was COLD enough to keep the drinks cold without the cooler). :p

If I need to transport frozen stuff in our coolers I just pack as much as I can and freeze a milk jug of water to help keep things cool. That seems to work well for us. I really don't use our coolers for to much frozen stuff.

This is a great cooler. Bought one last year for our August trip. Stayed in a hotel for five days and never added ice. It is definately going with us again this trip. Best investment as far as coolers go.:)

We have the igloo ultra cold 5 day cooler and it works great. Sam's has a Coleman extreme 70 qt for $23 and I plan to get one on my next trip. The extremes are a little better built I think. the hinge and latch seem sturdier and I have been looking for something in-between a 50 qt and a 100 qt. This one should be great. When used properly to keep things cold these coolers work really well. However, if you are always in and out of it and constantly adding hot drinks you might as well just get yourself a bucket and a roll of quarters for the ice machine.

My friend used one on our trip to DW in 2002. I was amazed at how well it held the ice.

We have one. I do have to ad ice but not as often. I think it depends on how much you open it, what is in it, and its location. Our mini vans floor gets warm from the transmission. I used a tarp under it to keep the heat out. When camping keep it in the shade.

I will try a new one this year its a 5 day cooler by a different name. I want it because it has wheels, much easier to move around

The only one I have seen is a fairly large one, on wheels. I don't know if there are more sizes to choose from. A more 'portable' one would be great too.

Saw some at Target yesterday (don't remember which brand) and they came in several sizes. The smallest may be a good size for flying......

We bought ours last summer and took it with us to Myrtle Beach. We loved it so much that we're going to buy another one. We were camping oceanfront with the only shade coming from the awning and the trailer as the sun moved. We didn't use ice because we bought it so that we wouldn't have to buy ice all the time. The trick is to fill it with items that are already cold. Everything stayed cold and wasn't all wet with melted ice water.

We bought the coleman model that plugs into the car or wall and I would not camp without it. We use it a lot. The prices have really come down since we bought ours, I saw won the other day at Walmart for $62. We've had ours for 3 years, no problems, everything stays cold and best part is no ice, no mess. I will definately replace this with a new one when it dies.
