My husband had the woodstove cranking and it hit 78 degrees in here earlier, I had to open the door to let some of the heat out! Now it's a comfy 74 with shorts and tshirt on!
Being cold makes me miserable. I'll gladly pay the bill to keep the house at 73+. It's a big bill because we live in New Hampshire but I'd give up vacations before I'd be cold and miserable every day! Even with the house this warm, I'm cold. I need to wear a sweatshirt. It could be the cathedral ceiling in the family room although we have a separate heater in there. The only time I was ever warm was when I was pregnant and I refuse to gain weight to lower my heat. Ha. Ha. The good thing is we save money in the summer because we don't have central A/C and we can tolerate the house being hot and it gets hot. It it's 90 degrees outside, it's pretty close inside.![]()
This is exactly me too! Being cold makes me miserable. Our temps are in the low 70's day and night, all winter. The thermostat is usually set on 74, but if we have company, I turn it down to 71 since the family room warms up quickly when its full of people.
In the summers, I refuse to turn on the a/c. We have so few months of the year when I can have the windows open and have fresh air, that I will not close up the house when it's sunny and hot. We have window fans and the heat doesn't bother me.
I figure that the money I save by not using the a/c, can go towards keeping me warm in the winter!
I swear temperature is a hotter topic (no pun intended) than politics. We'd have all the windows open in the winter if it was 70 here, and closed during the summer. Sort of like on the cruise line forum, people complain about the water at Castaway Cay being freezing when the record low temperature is 72, and out here in California, people start using their pools when the water hit's 68, and all the gyms keep their outdoor pools at 75.

Wow...you guys are tough!! We have natural gas heat which is very affordable right now, but my family is always warm...we keep it at 70 and I'm cold...sometimes push it up to 71 or 72 if no one's around. Oil heat at work but my office is the coldest...so I tend to turn the thermostat up to 73 or 74 just to make my office warmer... perhaps I should be down south!!
We've been keeping the temp set at 68 but I am tempted to crank it up just a little . . . I should say we are not used to weather this cold for this long - which also means our house is not built for these temps either . . .
I agree! Life is too short to be cold. I keep it at 74 during the day and 71 at night or if no one is home. Actually our gas bill wasn't that much higher, we expected worse. The house is 3000 square ft but with catherdal ceilings so it seems cool even at 74.
