Hi all , I'm hearing some scary story's about cockroaches invading our villa , is this a major problem? (April travel) and if so is there a way to lessen the problem ?

I've been to WDW loads of times and have never seen a cockroach there. If you do have them in a villa then perhaps ask the villa rental company to sort it out, hire an exterminator or something. :confused3

You may see the odd 'roach - we saw 2 (+1 in the garage) in 2 weeks) but they are around naturally. You can lessen the chances by not leaving food lying about in the villa. Certainly if you see them every day then speak to the management company who will deal with the problem promptly.

We've never at an encounter with cockroaches at any of the villas we've been in.

Only ever seen 1 in after going to Florida and staying in villas over the last 12 years or so. Never seen one in the hotel.

In 15 yrs of going only ever seen 2 cockroaches! so stop worrying!!
my biggest problem is frogs :scared1::scared1::scared1:

look up palmetto bug - those are big MFs....

and they fly....

oh yeah....

you can find them in tropical climates (like we have them....yum)..

all the bug killer in the world doesn't really help as those suckers fly....

the fastest i've ever moved in my life was when i was sick in bed and one of them flew in the bedroom window and landed on my shoulder.....
wow....i was up like a shot....

time for chemical warfare.....though that didn't kill it....just slowed it down for the more traditional mechanical approach (2 whacks with my hand borne sandal)..

but that's here where i live...

but they're in florida too.....

and they're big enough to saddle up and ride...

a shoulder fired grenade probably would do the trick...

i'll find some pictures...

on the bright side, WDW sprays their entire property on a daily basis which is the reason you don't see all that many bugs when you're there...

Even after watching it's tough to be a bug??? Did they not listen to flick???

LOL

I have only ever seen three cockroaches in my 11 trips! Saw more in Cyprus an Greece!

And I agree the frogs are worse I jumped in our pool at the villa to turn round an see the little bugger floating on his back looked like he saw sun bathing! I later found out that chlorine dissolves frogs YUCK!!!

This is how my phobia started! I was swimming in the villa pool, happened to look to my left and there it was swimming right beside me
since then I only have to see one and I'm :scared1:
its out of control now, the dog keeps finding little frogs in our back garden and 'plays' with them.....:scared:

I have been scared of them since I can remember even dead one lol! On our honeymoon we were walking from SSR to DTD and DH was teasing me and pushed me so the tip of shoe touched this dead (tiny) frog but I had to go back and change my shoes I'm awful! They are horrible slimy things!

this isn't a very good picture as it doesn't provide a frame of reference to see how very big it is...

another fun thing about the palmetto bug - their very noisy crunchy sound when you step on them... :goodvibes

personally, i find the german cockroach far more disgusting...those are the small bugs that are prevalent in new york city...truly revolting..

the palmetto bug, AKA American Cockroach, is much much larger, but somehow less disgusting than the german version..
