When getting COBRA, does your deductible you already paid into the insurance carry-over to the COBRA insurance? (does that make sense?) DH changed jobs, we're getting COBRA for 2 months. He already met his deductible from his old job. (We are in MI if that makes a difference).

(DH is going to call - I just didn't know if my DIS folks would be faster :rolleyes1:rolleyes1)

Yes. You don't change policies or anything -- whatever you had generally just carries over, including whatever you've already spent toward your deductible. And being as we're at the end of the year -- if you meet your deductible limit by expenses made in the 4th quarter of the year, most insurance carriers will consider that as having met your deductible for next year as well (so if you spend up to your $2500 limit in November and December, you won't have to have a new $2500 deductible starting in January -- you'll already be at that point, which has come in very handy for us in the past!). If this is the case for you, make sure you ask about this.

The amount you have paid toward your deductible will carry over to COBRA. However, it will reset whenever the company's annual renewal is. A lot of groups renew in January but it can renew in any month. Your deductible will reset when the company policy renews.

Year end carry over deductible isn't done with the major carrier in my state. Not sure how common it is in other areas.
