Coaster seating questions

I'm generally a big roller coaster chicken, but I love the ones at WDW. I still get nervous when I'm about to ride one of them, no matter how many times I've been on before.

My question is, for each WDW coaster, in your opinion, what seat/row do you recommend for the mildest ride possible?

For some reason, the only coaster I don't mind getting tossed around on is BTMRR, and I think the back rows are the best for that. I haven't figured out yet which seat for SM is the best. Is there really no difference between the two tracks on that? I tend to go to the right side, and I ended up going on the left once or twice and I swear that the left was a bit rougher. Am I crazy? On RNRC, I think that anywhere towards the front gives a smoother ride than the back.

I have yet to ride EE, so I have no opinion on that. I'm thinking that the front would be ideal for a mild ride over the "big drop," but I guess you'd then be in the back of the train when it goes backwards, which is supposed to be pretty intense, so I'm torn on what to think about that. :confused3

And finally, is it ok to request a certain row/seat on any of these when boarding? I've never done it because I'm afraid of holding up the line behind me, but sometimes I want to so I'm fully comfortable with the ride.

This is my first real post here. Thanks for reading and I look forward to seeing what others think about this!

First of all, WELCOME to the DIS! :cool1:

As far as coasters go, the best seats are always the last row!

You might feel more secure in the center of the "line" of cars on any coaster.

As far as EE over at DAK, it doesn't matter if you sit in the front row or back row - at one point of the ride either way, you are at the front of the car.

Sending you :goodvibes

I have to disagree with doombuggy on the last row thing. It really depends on what a person prefers in his/her thrill. For most wooden coasters, where the thrill comes more from being whipped around and 0 g time, the back is the best place. But on steel coasters with inversions, the front seat is often preferred because of the sheer sites that are experienced.

Also, on many steel coasters, the front seat has an extended nose that allows you to stretch out your legs (we call that the cadillac).

The OP wanted seats with the mildest ride. I think I can help since I'm a roller coaster wimp myself. I never want the front or the back sections. With Rock N Roller Coaster, we've sat in the front car and have had our hair plastered up for the final picture. Comical but not fun for me. In the last car, you can see the track and that isn't great for this wimp. I like the middle. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad isn't that big of a deal for me so anywhere is fine but middle is better. Space Mountain is a toughie since there are only six seats. I hope for the middle there too but it's the fact that I know how high up we are that gets to me. Not much help there.

For Expedition:Everest, we got the middle seats and I thought that was great. Now I hear that the front is smoother. I thought the middle was just fine. And I'm a wimp.

I've found on RnR the ride is smoother in the front part of the train, the back whips around more. I was in row 3 last week, it was pretty smooth.

I sit in the front car on SM because then I can see the track and it lets me feel a little more in control to know where I'm zipping to next. They've always been very accomdating when I ask to sit in front. No worries, it's Disney!

I dont like rollercoasters much either. The last time I went on Space Mountain, the CM asked me if I wanted the "wild seat". I said no. What is the wild seat?

The center car will give a more neutral ride. The rear of the train will give you the whip effect. Over hills you will get the best negative g's (that great floating feelig). As one of the previous posters mentioned the front is highly desired on many coasters as the view can highten the ride. The front however can give a push feeling going into segments of a ride (loops, valleys,)For the mildest ride I would reccomend the middle.

I've read numerous places that it's best to sit in the front row on Soarin'. Can you ask for that or is there a separate line for that? At Six Flags, if you want to sit on the front row and are willing to wait a little longer, there is a separate line. Since my daughter is only 4, this might be one of the few "wilder" rides she'll want to go on and I'd like it to be in the best position.

I wanted to let you know that I did the front, middle and the back on EE. If you are after the mildest ride definitely sit near the front. It doesn't have to be the front, I think we were in rows 3,4 and 5 and it was alot more mild than our next ride in the back, totally different!!! An imageneer told us to sit in the middle because that was where the "show" was designed to be seen from and it was also not as crazy as the back!! Good luck, may the pixie dust be with you!!! :wizard:

You can always ask for any row at any attraction. You may have to wait a few trains or show cycles depending on where you are. When they ask your party number just let them know that you would like the front back middle whatever.
