Coach find...

I started a new job 2 months ago and I needed a messenger bag, so DBF and I went to the Coach outlet today and I found a messenger bag, it was originally $400 and I paid $170!!! I am so excited, I can now keep all my work together in one place...Thanks for letting me share my find, BTW they are having a huge sale some things are 50% off then another 20% off

A quick question about the Coach outlets (but first, Congratulations on you find!):

Are the bags sold at the Coach outlets the same quality as the ones sold in the stores (Coach, Nordstrom, etc.)?

I was just wondering because there is an outlet in Park City and was wondering if it is worth the trip. I've heard rave reviews about these bags and am in need of something fun and springy but will last for a long time.

I shop the coach outlets as well. There is nothing wrong with the bags, but they don't carry the new lines that come out. So if there have a new line, they put some of the older ones in the outlets. Its new for me though!

Coach quality is the same at the outlets. Just the older styles are at the outlets like someone else posted. I bought one at the outlet on Saturday, that I would never buy at full price. If you register with the outlet stores, you will get all sorts of coupons via email.

Coach makes items specifically for retail and specifically for outlet sale. However, older (1-2 seasons ago) Coach retail will also eventually end up in the outlets.

The items made for outlet sale are nice, but not as good as the items made for retail sale.

The items made for retail sale are nice, but not anywhere near the quality they were 10 years ago. The leather isn't nearly as good, the zippers are a cheaper quality, the hardware is not what it once was.

Coach is still "okay" but it's not what it used to be. I think that's because of the high demand, they outsourced their work to China (whereas it used to be made in Mexico or the USA) and they're now more interested in quantity over quality. Additionally, when you have everyone walking around with bags with huge a "C" all over it, you know it's no longer a status or quality item.

What used to be the "Coach Counter" at Macy*s has turned into a table of Coach and a couple of racks/shelves of Coach. Even the Coach sneakers are cheap now.

My Coach bag (that I've had for about 11 years) is still in great shape. The zipper, hardware, etc is all perfect. I think I'd be hard-pressed to find any "new" Coach with this quality.

ITA Coach and D&B used to make quality bags, now they churn out crap. You want to find a nice bag from them you are better off looking at a yard sale for an older bag. Of course Coach is selling like gangbusters, the outlet store is always packed when we go there, so that tells you what my opinion is worth

The outlet makes items just for the outlet, similar to other brands do now. They do carry some retail bags but they are a few seasons old. The quality is decent but not what it once was.

They almost always have an extra 20% off coupon when you walk in the door.

We almost always hit an outlet if we're near one. I've been trying to find the sunglasses I lost at WDW since they're not longer available online or in the regular stores. I find the outlet-specific stuff is, as was mentioned, not as nice as the regular line. However, I've found some bags that I loved in the regular stores at the outlets on deep discount. There is always a clearance section (often the entire back section of the store) with additional % off, so if you're not near one now, chances are very high you'll still hit the "sale" since it's pretty much perpetual.
