We got into a conversation with one of our servers at Cape May last week, and he mentioned he is a DVC member. Nothing wrong with that, though it is a tad embarassing when your server has more points than you do!

I wonder what percentage of DVC members are cast members?

Just wondering why you find this embarrasing?

I believe CM's get a discount of some type - maybe something like $15 or $20 off per point

Not sure what the % are

thanks

Not really embarrassing -- I was just joking; I have no pretense about being wealthy (I'm not) and it doesn't usually interest me how wealthy others are.
This was an amusing twist on the server-guest relationship though. Like having your housekeeper talk about her real estate investments.

I would think a good server at a high-in restaurant at WDW would be bringing in some serious money. At Cape May Cafe dinner for two would be over $50.00 with 20% gratuitie that would be a fair amount just for beverages.

(I know they do more than bring beverages)::yes::

Actually CMs get 15% off DVC purchase. My DH helped a good friend of ours out a couple of Xmas's ago at TDS and so we added on. We have added on two more times. We sure kick ourselves for not doing it all while he was a CM. I actually called to do a dining reservation for a grand gatherings event yesterday and the reservationist was a DVC member. We started talking and he is retired, joined in 1994 and has several contacts. He had his own business in Minnesota until he decided to retire and move to Florida for health reasons. He lives in Sarasota and drives in for this part time job. He said he was leaving today for their first trip to VB. We ended up talking more about DVC than making the dining ressie. It is a small world.

does that include the cm at the stores? if so I should get myself a part time job:earsgirl:

Sure does! DH & I have discussed that - unfortunately our nearest Disney Store is about 40 miles away and too far a commute for a PT job.

My Husband's out of work and becoming a SAHD. I think I just found him the perfect part time job!:Pinkbounc

A few years ago we were on the boat to DD from OKW and the driver had 3000 points! 2000 at OKW and 1000 at HH. Yikes! He did say that he bought the points when the price was much lower and he is co-owner with his Mom. I have often thought about getting a part-time job at the Disney Store. But I think that there is a length of time that you have to be employed before you can use the discount though.

There is no length requirement as a CM to get the discount. It starts effective with employment. My wife worked as a CM for 4 months or so and we were able to use the discount for an add on.

Wow, I sure should have had DW work at TDS for a while when we first bought...that would have been a pretty serious savings!

Is it just me or does it strike people as a little odd that CM's who work at WDW would want to purchase DVC? It's hard for me to imagine buying vacation time at the place I work, as much as I might enjoy my work! :p

Maybe they go to VB or HH for their vacations?

It just struck me as curious. Actually, it's pretty neat to have someone like their workplace so much that they're willing to invest in it! :)

While I certainy don't speak for all CM owners, I think you have it backwards.

Many were like us...addicted to Disney. Added on and added on, eventually gave up real life and moved down there permentally (or retired and do part-time) now they do us it for VB and HH as well as a spot to put up family visiting and stay with them.

That's what I found out from several of the CM's I talked to last trip

Sandy

I'm a TDS CM and bought my last add-on the day that my rehire became effective. Just called up my guide and booked it right then.

And since I bought 100 points, I got the 15% off and then the $10pp off after that. Sweet. A very nice benefit for four months of work.

As far as WDW CMs owning, I know my guide owns at HH, but she wants to get away from FL and she said that she trades a lot too. Maybe they buy to trade?

Another reason may be what I'm thinking of doing - when we retire or semi-retire and move near WDW, then we will have a much smaller place. Having the points will allow our family to come visit without having to stay with us.

Also sweet.

I agree with your above quote Nancy.Thats the exact reason we will keep all of our pts when we move to Florida in 4 yrs. And mainly for the VB Beach Cottage for family get togethers.::yes::

BUT........Who will get to stay at the DVC resort??????
You or the visiting family members???????????
Personally, I would give the visiting family members the home/apt/condo in the WDW area and would take the DVC resort at WDW for myself!!!!! LOL!! :bounce: :Pinkbounc
