CM Nametags

No, it's not. Security and Bus Drivers are two that I can think of that wear their nametags on their right. Bus Drivers because the left side will almost never be visible. Security wears their badge on the left side (over the heart), and the nametag on the right.
Correct, they're not all on the left side. Tower of Terror is one I know of because the Hollywood Tower Hotel emblem (HTH) is on the left, so the nametag is on the right. When I worked there, I had a guest come up to me and say my nametag is on the wrong side. I thought it was a joke but he was dead serious and told me to switch it. I said it's supposed to be here, and he said "CM's wear them on their left sides, yours is wrong." So I actually took my nametag off to show him the special fabric sewn in under the nametag to show where to put it, and he said "oh ok" and walked away. He probably looked at all the other bellhops on the way to the ride. Little obsessive.

Oh, that's true. I was really only thinking of CMs in the parks.

As for the person who mentioned Tower of Terror....I don't ride that ride, so that's my bad.

When I worked there, my trainer told me CMs always wear it on the left side, but maybe they just assumed....or were misinformed...?
I guess I should have said 'the majority of CMs wear it of their left side'...

I told my DD to "look for the people with the special nametags" if she ever got lost. Well, lo and behold, she managed to lose me! We were in the bathroom outside of the Nemo show at AK. The strollers were parked ALL the way down the walkway. My friend was waiting outside, but somehow, DD5 got by her. I was still in the restroom with DD3 and when I came out, DD5 was long gone! We started walking back toward the stroller, hoping that is where she was headed. Sure enough, here she comes, walking towards us, holding hands with a CM. He smiled at us and said that DD walked up to him and said, "I lost my mom and she told me to find someone with the special nametag. Can you help me find her?" He then said that DD was as calm as could be as she recalled the last place she'd seen me...the bathroom! He said that she did a great job!

Unfortunately, that became a little game with her! She ran off again on me at the AKL. We were coming in from the Arusha savanna and she took off up the stairs. I was a little slower since I was dragging DD3 up the stairs. I got to the top and DD5 is nowhere to be seen. Ugh! Well, it was less than a minute when she appeared, calmly holding the hand of a CM! "Look what I found, mom? Another person with a special nametag!"

The first time, great. Second time, not so much.:sad2:

This is the current generation Disney nametag:

The vast overwhelming majority of cast member nametags look like this (though with the cast member's own name and location, of course). CM's with pins for long-term service or recognition will have them placed on the top half of the ID. Cast are, as far as I know, required to wear the current name tag design. With exceptions for special badges (security), visibility (bus drivers), or show (think of the Tower of Terror bellhops), cast are required to have the tag affixed to their left side (on the right side of your field of vision)

Can anyone tell me what is different (aside from location) about the Tower of Terror Cast member badge?

Anyone have a picture of the current Tower of Terror Cast Member badge?

Thanks,

GoofyDisney

When I teach Traditions we say left side... it's assumed left side unless a specific costume dictates right side. In those cases, the area trainers will specify right. Security, Bus Drivers, and ToT are all examples of costume exceptions, there are a handful of others as well.

Nothing is different - they are just worn on the right.

Blue ID's are no longer a way to tell if someone is a manager or not, WDW has been changing their ID's and the majority of people now have blue ID's.

99% of the time a CM will not be displaying their ID on stage unless they are a manager. Costumed CM's are normally not allowed to display their ID while on stage.

Service pins are usually a good indication as well although not all CM's have them or wear them.

My kids can easily tell CM's from regular guests, I guess the easiest thing to do is tell your children to look for someone who is clearly working, either behind a counter in a store, a food service cart or something that is very obvious. As a general rule, even with the confusion of name tags I still think they are the best way to identify someone that works there.

Kids are pretty smart and shouldn't be underestimated, they can work out who works there pretty easy.

OP just another tip for you is to take a picture of your child every morning of the trip. That way if you get seperated you have a completely updated pic of them wearing that days clothing to show CMs :thumbsup2
