CM comment- Would you be offended?

Sometimes I wonder if people reported Disney had a new policy where every fifth person that came in the park would be hit in the knee with a tire iron if someone would still defend the practice and blame the person who was hit because they should have timed it better to not be the fifth person in.

Fellow Disers I see argumentative replies , minor personal attacks and off topic comments. If this tone of thread continues I will close thread. Danny
I'm sorry if I created a problem with this thread. I honestly wanted feedback on what others would think of this comment. I am appreciating the different viewpoints.

For what it is worth, I was offended but let it go. My daughter was more offended by what was said and the tone used. (I think she did not like seeing her mother treated with disrespect.) She gave this feedback on a post visit survey and WDW thought this should have been taken to guest services. Our different takes made me curious of what others would think.

I would have laughed and said in a serious tone " is your supervisor for your snarkyness in that direction too, then get there name off name tag". OP if you were offended you should have reported it. Only you and yr daughter heard the tone. Since I wasn't there I cannot say how I would react. I hope you had a great rest of yr day.

No problem with your post , others are getting over zealous in replies. Many good replies but thread is moving from your post to infighting. Not you're fault in anyway. Danny

I hate having my photos taken. In a park a PP photographer insisted on taking some photos of me after taking the photo of the rest of the group. By that I mean snapping away at me alone while I am turning away, putting my head down (after I had already said that I didn't want to be in the photos) - and those shots appeared on the memory maker.

I was furious and a bit upset (I have anxiety about my photo being taken), but didn't want to make a fuss to spoil it for the other people in my party.

Talking about our recent trip this comment by a CM came up. We were in the top part of the line for It's a Small World. In front of us was a family with a little girl who was doing the whole kid thing and not immediately keeping up with her mom so we were giving them a little room. Still keeping up but not passing the little girl in line. The CM came up to me and said in a snarky tone "Mam, I'm going to do you a favor. The line goes that way." We were all in order in the que, did she expect me to breathe down the neck of the people in front of us and separate them from their child? I was so taken aback by the tone and comment that I didn't even say anything back. Would you have been offended?

Yup, rude and I would have responded in kind most likely. This happens routinely at Haunted Mansion where the CM's seem obsessed with herding people in like sheep. They're extremely rude and I actually got into a bit of a shouting match one time with a CM as I was standing 6 inches behind the person in front of me and the CM wanted me 1 inch behind apparently.

I was not there, so I did not hear the tone, but I think I would probably have just shrugged and moved on. I generally notice rudeness, and I usually respond if I think my response will make a difference, but if I think a remark was made thoughtlessly and with no harm intended, I ignore it.

I do try to avoid escalating a situation just because I can, so in this case, unless I was sure the CM was intentionally being rude or disrespectful, and not trying to get folks to move ineptly, I woudl let it go.

Very ridiculous CM indeed....but oh goodness...this post had me cracking up (esp where I bolded). I guess it has me visualizing a long herded line of humans spaced by only an inch. Or it could be that I'm on hour 11 of 12 at work. All I know is, hahahaha...you're funny. :rotfl2:

No I wouldn't have been. My response would have been "cheers thanks " . Then made sure I still didn't separate the child from the parents.
They have a job to do sometimes I am sure it gets frustrating .

There was a gentleman in front of me and I think he appreciated me being 6 inches behind him, rather than an inch, if you know what I mean. Not sure what kind of things that CM was into but I wasn't having it.

I'd be a bit peeved but probably more because I expect much better from a company that has an established track record of great service (something that I've noticed is fading) and advertises that. To be honest, like another poster said, I don't care what kind of day you're having, snarky comments don't improve the situation. There's a much better way to approach this situation. A simple "excuse me mam, could you fill in this space here please? Thank you so much!" would get across the same message. You could of then explained why you left the gap, and the CM could've helped the little girl rejoin her party. I get that they're dealing with heat, crowds, and disgruntled guests but there have been many, many CMs who have dealt with the same thing for years who have it in them to refrain from making these comments.

The sad thing is this is a trend I'm seeing a lot more recently at WDW. In the parks, that incredible service is fading. Don't get me wrong, there are still thousands of amazing CMs out there, and the CMs at the resorts and on the cruise remain fantastic, but in the parks, I'm finding an unpleasant attitude from some CMs that wasn't there before. For example, a year or so ago, we were at the loading platform for Splash and who I assume was a father and a son (they were both grown adults) were talking as they waited for the next group in front of them to move closer to the boat (they were standing a few number plates back), but they didn't move up to the next number plate when everyone else did. The CM comes over and says "move!" and proceeds to shove the son (and this wasn't a light shove; he stumbled and I'd speculate that had he not been holding on to the rails would've fell). After the father turned around and yelled "Hey!", that CM couldn't have been out of there quicker. And this was early in the day. That's not the fairy godmother service that Disney has advertised for so many years. We and CMs often encourage guest to "see it from the CMs side," and trust me, I do, but when you're paying that much money to be there and you've been sold on this whole "magical service" idea, you expect a certain amount of respect, which snark and shoving are not apart of.

I agree with this whole comment. There is something very rough-around-the-edges about the CMs in the parks now, particularly at the attractions.

Generally speaking, I find the older CM's much more pleasant and willing to go out of their way to sprinkle pixie dust. It seems like the younger CM's don't even know what pixie dust is. Again, I'm just speaking generally. I know some of you will post that you had very good experiences with younger CM's.

I agree, I've found that too. The younger CMs are generally less into it, and downright snarky at times, like the focus of this thread (I've had a few run-ins myself)

I have a theory on this. The older CM's are already retired and either are just trying to earn a few extra bucks to supplement retirement, are working at Disney because they actually love it, or sometimes both. The younger CM's tend to be more focused with moving up the ladder, possibly getting really good marks during an internship to either gain full employment with Disney after they graduate or just to be able to use it as a really strong reference and are therefore much less willing to stray from the Disney corporate handbook.

So, that would make them want to be "snarky" to guests?
What would that gain them in your scenario?

I would not have been offended but I would have told her that it was inappropriate for someone who is employed to serve the public to be so rude and if she talked back I'd have taken her name and complained to a manager.
