We're heading off for a six-day trip during the second week of June. As someone who is rather Pooh-shaped, I'd like to take precautions to ensure I don't end up with heat rash and chafed to death. So, I'm hoping my fellow members of the Pooh nation can help me out here.

I know to get apparel that's loose and comfortable, non-binding, etc. However, I've also heard people say to avoid cotton, as it could retain moisture (sweat, water from rides, and such). Another recommendation I saw was to get moisture-wicking clothing like Under Armor. While I think the UA-type gear is a great idea, it's not always cheap and I worry about finding it in Pooh size.

Would anyone like to share clothing / fabric suggestions for a Pooh-sized traveller? Fabrics we should avoid? Styles that we should steer clear of (tank tops, for example...not that I'd enjoy showing off my Jello-y arms anyway) for comfort's sake?

Any insight warmly welcomed, good advice cherished! Also, if my auto-correct spelling feature doesn't stop trying to change the word "Pooh" to "pooch", I'm gonna scream

Well, pooh-sized person here, and have been to Disney many times in the 90-98F days with 101% humidity...you know the kind of days that you walk into an airconditioned building & your eyeglasses fog over completely? Anyway I stick with regular cotton t-shirts and very lightweight long cotton slacks that can roll up to make capris if I want. Don't know about the recommendations against cotton?:confused3 Does that maybe apply to cotton socks inside tennis shoes or something? Seriously, I find the natural fabrics like cotton are MUCH more comfortable in hot/humid weather than all the poly-whatevers. The manmade stuff always feels like it holds in heat to me. Just my opinion...have worn both kinds of clothing & just way more comfortable in natural fibers.

I have to agree. I am 5"11 and 290lbs....(44 waist)...I have never been rashed or chafed in WDW..."Knock Wood". I usually wear a simple t-shirt or polo shirt...made of either 100% cotton or mostly cotton. I also just wear my tennis shoes and socks (cotton) with blue jean or Khaki shorts. I stand at work and move a lot for 8 hrs a day/5 days a week so I am use to the walking. BUT I do suggest for people who aren't to take at least 2 pair of shoes. I usually take more. I wear one pair to the parks (during the day), if it happens to be a day where were eating at DTD and I shower after a park day I usually put on a different pair of shoes something more stylish that isn't meant for theme park days and then the next day in the park I usually wear a different pair of tennis shoes. I try to alternate days. I have done the same shoes for a week and alternated...I notice a small difference, BUT I know other pooh sized people and they swear by the alternating comfortable shoes. So you might want to consider that. I have also known people to wear 2 pair of socks for more cushion..i don't know from personal expirences on that one. BUT stick with cotton fabrics I think you'll be good to go. Have a wonderful time at Disney!

I wear cropped pants that stop just below my knees. Anything longer is too warm for me. I wear blouses that have boat type collars, no t-shirt types. Last year one of my favorite blouses was a Caribbean Joe blouse made of very light fabric and loose. I make many of my clothes so I make all my summer blouses of light fabric and at least 50% cotton. I prefer 100 % cotton. I live in South Texas so I have 2 patterns that I always use because they have proven to be perfect for our S. Texas weather--no collar and sleeves that just cover my upper arms without elastic or anything that binds.

I wear Perfect Poplin capris from Avenue, and a lightweight t-shirt. I'm 5'5" and weigh 300.

Have a wonderful trip!

I'm not exactly Pooh sized, but my sister is and she is lurking over my shoulder right now. She wants me to share this info with the hopes that it might help. She purchased a product called body glide at the drug store (it's not the personal lubricant kind either... its a mildly greasy lotion but safe to use on delicate skin) She said it helps avoid chafing. I am overweight and used it on my inner thighs half way up from the knee (I'm trying to be PG rated, but I have no other way of describing it). I can't wear shorts or a skirt without using it. I get a horrible blister type rash if I don't use it. They sell it at most drug stores. She applies just a small amount on her under arms (not the armpits but slightly lower on the underarm) and on the inner thighs and sometimes behind her knees. I hope this helps!

I second the recommendation for Body Glide! One thing to pay attention to is how your pants/shorts fit. You want the crotch to fit on the tight side - if it's cotton, it will strtch a bit, and I have the worst problems with chafing when the crotch of my pants is low enough to let my thighs rub together (hope no one is offended - just keepin' it real, like the kids say).

Junonia.com sells pooh-sized workout and casual clothes. They're a bit expensive, but they fit well and last forever. I have two pairs of wicking shorts (I can't remember what they're called, but they "wick away" sweat) that I wear under skirts and have no chafing problems whatsoever. They're kind of like short bike shorts.

I also always wear 100% cotton tops and bottoms, but some of the sports socks made from nylon(?) really do keep your feet dryer, and they dry much quicker than cotton if you get your feet wet. And like PP, I would recommend at least three pairs of shoes, and change them every day!

HTH.

I also recommend mole skin if you plan on walking a lot no matter how comfy your shoes are. Dont forget to pack scissors to cut the sheets! I always forget

I am not exactly pooh sized, but no matter what I do, I have big thighs and hips. Anyway, I would avoid jean shorts. I went to sea world San Antonio several jears ago, and wore jean shorts. We went on a water ride, (similar to kali) so I was soaking wet. It was later in the evening, and it took awhile for my shorts to dry. Anyway, from the jeans rubbing between my legs, and that is all I am going to say, it was PAINFUL! I would look for longer, loose fitting shorts, and tanks. I like the cotton t-shirts made for working out because they keep you cool. Hope my tip helps!

Experience from Dh before and after gastric bypass. He swears by Under Armour from when he was 330 to now at 200. It does come pooh sized but can be expensive. We have a lot of outlet malls here in Jersey so that's where he gets his. Also says the body glide or similar type product is great.

Under Armour is my recommendation. We attend Lollapalooza here in Chicago in August which can be miserable hot and humid for 3 days. The first year I did nothing and thought I was going to die. The second year I tried a special lotion for chafing (not sure if it was body glide or another product). I still had problems at the end of the day but it was better. Last year, I spent the money on Under Armour. It saved my life. No chafing the entire weeked -- EVER -- even with jean shorts. So, I wore it on my last disney trip without any problems. I wear it now anytime I know I am going to be doing some long walks, whether it is humid or not.

Pure Romance also has a product that I love for chafing. Its kinda like an aerosol powder that helps "wick" sweat and keeps from chafing. My rep said her husband uses it also to prevent chafing from sweat. Its called Between the Sheets. I know, not exactly G-rated, but it is a great product and works well.

I like to wear gauze clothing for warm weather trips to Florida. Gauze is incredibly lightweight, "breathes" well, and dries quickly. I've even washed them out in the hotel room bathtub in the evening, used the blow dryer to dry them a little, and they are ready to wear the next day - no ironing required. Also, gauze packs wonderfully - very light and takes up little room.

If you look around, you can find some gauze clothing at off-season prices before spring really gets here. I've bought several off-season gauze swimsuit cover-ups which work out great - you can use the tops with cotton capris or bermuda shorts in the parks, as a swimsuit cover at the pool, or layer a tank top underneath with matching jewelry for a little dressier look for restaurants in the evenings. Sometimes they have gauze pants to match and those can be cut off to make capris. They often come in fun, festive, beautiful colors too!

I just realized that I sound like I represent the gauze clothing association or something! :lmao:

Anyway, have fun and stay cool! :beach:

Just went here the other day. They had active shirts with water wicking (like Nike Dry Fit) for $5 a piece. I picked up 4 for Disney. They were just solid colors like navy, gray, black but also had a couple bright colors like green and yellow. They came in long sleeve, short sleeve, and sleeveless. Probably won't last for years due to quality but for $5....

My dh and I were there at the end of aug for 2 weeks, and let me tell you... it was hazy, hot, and humid every single day!! I loved it!!

I am pooh-sized and I wore skirts everyday! I had never worn them to the parks before. I had always worn shorts. But since this trip was our 25th anniversary trip, I tried to 'spice' up my wardrobe a little bit! Some days I wore skorts, making sure that the 'short' part of it was snug enough not to give me a rash. I also applied body glide in the morning and kept it in my bag just in case. Most days I wore light weight summer skirts or sundresses. They went right to my knee or right below, so underneath I wore a light weight short (moisture wicking) or lightweight spandex. This was great for 2 reasons, one... no rash! Two... nothing was seen by accident when getting on or off the rides! I thought that the spandex material would get sweaty (gross comment, I know) but they didn't at all!! As it turned out, they were my favorite things to wear! I never once got a rash or felt uncomfortable. It was awesome and plan to wear skirts often during our next summer trip!

As for shirts, I wore light weight cotton blouses. Sometimes I put moisture wicking tanks underneath. They worked wonderfully!

My first trip was in July!!! Wore those nylony v-neck type tank tops with matching nylony type capris. They can be found at K-Mart for about $6--$8 each;) Saw so many xtra pooh size women 'letting it all hang out':) Told my dd that's me next trip, lol. So now I've worn the little tanks with spaghetti straps with an exercise type bra (they come in lots of colors) that the straps may show a little, but still wear some type of capri's.

Wow, thank you all SO much! I wasn't expecting a ton of responses so this is terrific. Great suggestions, too.

I knew about Bodyglide and you betcha we're getting some to take with us. I'd like to get the UA gear if I can get it for a good price. I'm also going to hightail it down to Old Navy since that's an amazing price for the Nike dry stuff. We're also planning on getting the Cool Max socks right before we go, and while I'm not normally a Crocs kind of gal, I may have to invest in a pair.

Anyway, you guys and gals all rock! I appreciate the suggestions. :worship:

I forgot to talk about shoes. Each time we've gone, I always wore sneakers... UNTIL the last two trips! Whenever I wear sneakers (no matter how good they are and how much I love them at home or in the gym... when I wear them at Disney, the bottom of my pinkie toes always get blisters). So... last Aug I wore sandals! I brought different pairs and traded out each day! They were WONDERFUL! I never had a blister and my feet were never sweaty! I brought tevas and croc, nike, and adidas flipflops. They were all wonderful! When I went with my dd last month, I was concerned about what to wear because it was too cold for sandals, and I bought crocs. I have NEVER worn crocs and think they are ugly!! BUT........... they are SOOOOO COMFORTABLE!!! I will say that I bought them ahead of time and wore them in a bit. There was a spot that I needed to stretch out. But once that was taken care of, they were great!!! Never a blister or a hot spot or a backache or anything!! I'll never wear sneakers in disney again!!

I wear these fabulous lightweight walking shoes made by Easy Spirit. They have sort of a "Mary Jane" look, and the upper is made of some sort of vented, "net" material. They are super comfy, cool, and have great support! You can wear them with the "loafer socks" and they don't show at all, so they even work with my gauze skirts for the nicer restaurants in the evening. ;)

I just wanted to let you know about my split slips. I have been wearing them for years because I would actually blister and not be able to walk. You can find them in woman within, they are called a culotte slip. I wear skirts and long dresses all the time because I look better in them, they are cooler and with the split slip I am more comfortable than in any other garmet. It is like a regular slip only in a goucho style with loose nylon. They can be trimmed to size. The tight armor shorts can roll up on me sometimes. These have been my secret weapon for years!

Hope this helps you and that you have a great trip!!
