Clothing question from a Pooh-sized patron

I'm a pooh sized girl and have been since childhood, currently a size 16/18. I NEVER wear shorts because no matter how long they are they look unflattering on me and also make my legs chafe like crazy. I knew I would be burning up in shorts. So I went a different direction. I wore calf-length leggings everyday with long, tunic type tops. I'm posting a couple of pictures to give you an idea. This really worked for me!

I was a size 20 when these photos were taken.

By the way, I traded those shoes for flipflops on the second day. My feet were way too uncomfortable and hot!

You look cute as can be!! :)

More terrific insights, gang! Keep 'em coming.

I swear I'm gonna start a line of extreme hot weather clothing for Pooh nation people. I've also decided that if the elastic in my unmentionables starts irritating my skin, there's gonna be a new meaning to doing Disney "commando-style". :rolleyes1

:rotfl:

I wear jeans and a long sleeve shirt (and maybe a sweater in the morning/evening on top of that) in the winter and (cotton) tanks and skirts or sundresses in the summer, both with Crocs.

For anyone sweating in the heat/ humidity of Florida, products like Body Glide are a godsend. I used a much less expensive gel from Monistat (anti-chafing powder gel) which is readily available with the other Monistat stuff at WalMart or Target for around 5 bucks. It lasts a LONG time.
You use it around the elastic on your underwear (on your inner thigh) and anywhere else that might chafe from salty, sweaty sweat rubbing that elastic against your skin. Underneath the front of the bra line is another good place to use it. It goes on velvety smooth and is very soothing. A tip: don't use it on your feet if you are planning to apply band-aids later- they won't stick. For days!

Here's a pic of the gel: http://www.monistat.com/soothing-care-powder-gel

My daughter ever since she was out of diapers has chaffed and has super sensitive skin. On our Nov 07 she was chaffed so bad that it took us 2 hours to walk from Germany in Epcot to the bus stop. We used this on our trip in May and were amazed. She never chaffed once.:thumbsup2 My friend and I also started using it. It is great.

Hi Vroom, gauze is a type of woven cotton fabric. It's very, very thin and usually a little "crinkly". It's the coolest fabric that I know of - better than seersucker, even.

The one downside to gauze is that, if you're sensitive enough, you can get a sunburn through it. Those same holes that let the air through let sun light through. Same is true of white t-shirts and the like - the lighter (in weight and in color) the fabric, the more likely you'll need sunscreen under it. So be careful if that's an issue.

Ooooh, good tip, Shalom! It's probably a good idea to put on sunscreen beneath those very loosely woven / crinkly fabrics. Hmmm...will add that to my practical tips list. :thumbsup2

What a cute outfit! I'm a size 14, but even when I was thin, I always felt self conscious in shorts because I'm very pale. Capri pants are my thing..have to try the legging thing as well.

I'm one of the pooh sized gals you see running around is tanks. (ok I'm pooh sized so the "running" is more like a fast stroll ;) )

I get the xtra long "wifebeater" style tanks at Lane Bryant. I also wear mens cargo shorts. (JC Penny's has a great selection in thier big and tall section). They are VERY comfy and the pockets come in handy. They are also long, so for folks who don't like to show thier legs, you're covered to the knee.

Of course I may like them because what my Mother still naively calls a "Tomboy", but my partner calls butch. LOL

But seiously folks...don;t worry about covering up what you think is unseemly. Youre on vacay. You dont know the masses of people walking around you. I for one would rather be comfortable and cool, then worry about someone looking at my jiggling arms. LOL

Sounds just like my girlfriend! She loves to be comfortable no matter what she is wearing!

It's all about the comfy. I mean you just paid a fortune for a wonderful trip ... Why spend it miserable!

Forgot to mention I love love body glide! And just say NO to Jean material of any kind.

Also woman within has some awesome swim gear options this year. Tankini tops and seperate bottoms that are longer shorts. Some are like tight biker shorts and some looser shorts.

I love Tankinis! And I know what you mean about the jean material, especially when it gets wet!

Body Glide is wonderful for any sized person! My atheletic sons wear it all of the time. You can also buy it at Dick's Sporting Goods.

My problem is that, for some reason my dermatologist can't figure out, the tops of my arms are extremely sensative to sun. Instead of burning, I break out in what looks like a forest of whiteheads. I'm using a topical med now to try and get rid of the scars, but if I wear a tank top, I feel SO self conscious with this breakout all over my upper arms. I'm afraid people will think I'm contagious or something. So I can only wear shirts with sleeves now (I used to live in tank tops), but even sleeves and sunscreen didn't stop the last break out. I'm thinking, if it's going to be bad anyway, I might as well be more comfortable int he tanks, and hope people don't report me to the CDC.

Being a pooh sized person, I was also wondering what type of clothing to wear
(We are going in mid-June--our last trip was in July but i was err smaller:rotfl:)
I want to thank the OP and the rest of ya'll for the suggestions. they are greatly appreciated.:worship:

One really good place to get plus size clothes is Old Navy online. I think that is where I got all my clothes for our trip last May. They have tons of cute tanks for the summer and bramuda shorts for those that don't like to show a lot of leg.

Thanks for the compliments on my photos!
I would highly recommend wearing leggings to any pooh sized person worried about chafing and heat. I'm very sensitive to heat and chafing and didn't experience either. The hardest part about putting together the outfits was finding tops that were long enough for me to feel comfortable wearing them just with leggings...I didn't want my rear end to be on display! I bought the shirts and leggings at Sears.

I really like the work out line from Penney's. I think it is St. Johns Bay. It comes in verious sizes (I noticed on the web) and it keeps me cool. I never wear shorts to Disney, because of being so fair skinned. I burn very easily, so I stick with capris. Then I am only putting sunblock on some of my body and not all of it.

I have to agree with this post. LOVE the SJB Active Wear at Penny's. I live in this stuff during the summer. I bought several sets a couple years ago and wear them almost daily. They have held up really well through two summers. I don't feel like the capris are any warmer than shorts since they are loose and light weight. I just bought four new sets to take to Disney World this summer (two shorts, two capris). I'm not sure what the size range is for this brand, but I know they have XL and I'm pretty sure I saw XXL when I was shopping.

If anyone is interested, I just found some really cool looking (as in they look they won't be hot to wear) t-shirts on sale at K-Mart. They're a kind of crinkle cotton with some nylon and spandex, a v-neck tee that came in very nice colors. They're the Jacklyn Smith (sp?) collection, and were 30% off of $12.
