Clothing question from a Pooh-sized patron

Is gauze a clothing line or just a type of clothing? Sorry for being not in the know here, I am a pooh sized person here too and would love to find these clothes!

The only bad experience I have had with 13 trips to Disney was the first year when I wore Denim shorts and got a terrible rash. I like to wear the cotton knit pants or capris and a loose tshirt and of course my comfortable New Balance shoes with Hanes cotton 1/4 socks.

Hi Vroom, gauze is a type of woven cotton fabric. It's very, very thin and usually a little "crinkly". It's the coolest fabric that I know of - better than seersucker, even.

If you go to the woman within website, and type the word "gauze" in their search box, you'll see some of the actual garments that I wear to WDW (not the loungers, - the shirts, pants [which I convert into capris], and cute skirts/dresses). Sometimes the sleeves are too long - I usually cut those off and make little "cap" sleeves.

They have some really pretty convertible gauze dresses/skirts right now, I notice. Hmmm....I think it might be time for another WDW outfit! :thumbsup2

I would post the link to their website here, but I don't think I'm allowed to do that. :confused3

Not really pooh size, 6' 205 lbs, but I always bring along Gold Bond and as the guys at the gym say, "lather up my junk"....only problem I see with it at Disney is it doesn't last all day, need to reapply a few times..

I second the recommendation for Body Glide! One thing to pay attention to is how your pants/shorts fit. You want the crotch to fit on the tight side - if it's cotton, it will strtch a bit, and I have the worst problems with chafing when the crotch of my pants is low enough to let my thighs rub together (hope no one is offended - just keepin' it real, like the kids say).

I think even the non pooh sized people become victims to the leg rash. I had on a pair of khaki's that were loose and the seam of the crotch rubbed against the inside of my thigh all day. OMG! I had a huge red welt that hurt like crazy and it was on the first day. I ended up having to get Zinc cream to put on it at night and then use mole skin pieces to cover it so I could walk without looking like I just got off a horse!

I was 5'3" 175 a few years ago and I would get horrible rashes on my inner thighs while at Disney. (We are a commando family so a rash was unacceptable) I wore exercise "biking" 100% cotton shorts under my shorts. They're very thin and the were just long enough to cover where the rubbing occurred. I would take three pairs...1 to wear...1 in backpack in case of water rides...and 1 back in room washed and drying for rotation the next day! I recommend this to everyone and haven't gotten anything but KUDOS! I hope this tip helps! Have a magical trip!

I lived in capris and t-shirts on our trip. Bodyglide is another can't go without. I had lots of breathing room without the discomfort (ahem...).

Good luck!

They went right to my knee or right below, so underneath I wore a light weight short (moisture wicking) or lightweight spandex. This was great for 2 reasons, one... no rash! Two... nothing was seen by accident when getting on or off the rides!

That was my suggestion. I have tons of cotton bike shorts. I hate shorts so I wear skirts and dresses all summer. As long as I have the bike shorts I never have a problem with chafing. :thumbsup2

Wow, am I glad I found this thread! When you're Pooh sized like me(I think they modeled Pooh after me), it seems like all clothing in the world is made for skinny people and you're the only one out there that has to consider chafing and how their shorts fit before they go to WDW. It's nice to find other kindred spirits.:goodvibes

I only wear cotton shirts and long shorts. I am a hot, sweaty person when it's 50 degrees outside, so I am in misery when it's 90+.:sad2: I couldn't imagine wearing tight nylon underarmour clothing. It makes me hot thinking about it.:scared: I do wear coolmax socks though; they tend to keep their shape more when feet get sweaty.

I can't wait to use body glide on my next trip:idea:; in fact I am buying some for the summer. Why haven't I heard of this before?!

For anyone sweating in the heat/ humidity of Florida, products like Body Glide are a godsend. I used a much less expensive gel from Monistat (anti-chafing powder gel) which is readily available with the other Monistat stuff at WalMart or Target for around 5 bucks. It lasts a LONG time.
You use it around the elastic on your underwear (on your inner thigh) and anywhere else that might chafe from salty, sweaty sweat rubbing that elastic against your skin. Underneath the front of the bra line is another good place to use it. It goes on velvety smooth and is very soothing. A tip: don't use it on your feet if you are planning to apply band-aids later- they won't stick. For days!

I think the "don't wear cotton" definitely isn't all-inclusive. What I finally realized was that yes, there are some tshirts out there that are so tightly woven that it allows for very little air movement. The most uncomfortable cotton tshirt I ever wore to the parks was one that had like 2% spandex in it. Felt like I was smothering. Now DH wore cotton tshirts to the park until one day he wore one of his pique cotton polo shirts. He was surprised at how much it "breathed". Funny enough, the cheaper the shirt, the better the comfort. He's noticed that his basic Old Navy pique polo shirts breathe the most. I suppose it makes sense...looser weave, thinner material. So I purchased one of the female versions of this and it really does let air through better than my tshirts.

I swear by a product called Luvees. They are soft cotton undergarments that can be worn over your undies, and have a padded inner thigh area. The cotton is like a lace and is very breathable compared to bike shorts or spandex. If I go down in August I pair my Luvees with Body Glide just in case. I got mine at Luvees dot com.

I'm a pooh sized girl and have been since childhood, currently a size 16/18. I NEVER wear shorts because no matter how long they are they look unflattering on me and also make my legs chafe like crazy. I knew I would be burning up in shorts. So I went a different direction. I wore calf-length leggings everyday with long, tunic type tops. I'm posting a couple of pictures to give you an idea. This really worked for me!

I was a size 20 when these photos were taken.

By the way, I traded those shoes for flipflops on the second day. My feet were way too uncomfortable and hot!

Another vote here for Body Glide!! Its awesome! I've been going in May, and its pretty hot... this product has saved me alot!! :)

My new "uniform" to the parks is those cute cargo skirts that are above the knee, and i dont get the ones with shorts, i wear a spandex workout short underneath it. I found when i wear shorts that they ride up on me, and that really bugs me! But with the spandex shorts (they are like a bike short) they stay in place, and with the body glide... i'm good to go!! :)

I really like the work out line from Penney's. I think it is St. Johns Bay. It comes in verious sizes (I noticed on the web) and it keeps me cool. I never wear shorts to Disney, because of being so fair skinned. I burn very easily, so I stick with capris. Then I am only putting sunblock on some of my body and not all of it.

I never go to Disney without the Monistat chafing powder gel, you are right about it and Body Glide being a godsend.

Love this thread! I am a Pooh sized mama heading back to the world for our first August trip, we usually go in April so huge weather difference! I purchased Body Glide for our waterpark trip in January. Last year I had chafing on my thighs so bad that it was bleeding. Sooooo sore! My BG came in a deodorant type stick. It was very crumbly and not easy to apply. I had to let it crumble a bit and then try to rub it in my hand but it was really hard. I'm definately going to look for the gel! Also going to try the UA shorts. For those of you that wear the bike shorts, do you have problems with them riding up?

More terrific insights, gang! Keep 'em coming.

I swear I'm gonna start a line of extreme hot weather clothing for Pooh nation people. I've also decided that if the elastic in my unmentionables starts irritating my skin, there's gonna be a new meaning to doing Disney "commando-style". :rolleyes1

I, too, am "Pooh" sized, but down from 5'1 290 to 200. In my family we call it chub rub!! I always have balmex - used for diaper rash. It works great if you already have an irritation, and lotrimen crean to prevent yeast from growing in...um...delicate places. Regular glide on deodorant will work if you run out of body glide!

As for clothing..I swear by gauzy fabrics, and nothing form fitting..the looser, the better!

Great Thread :thumbsup2

I'm actually excited to try body glide this trip... If only i knew about dis boards before my last trips!!! lol

I had a really bad rash last summer in NYC .. I didn't know what to do, but i remembered a powder I used to use on dd for a diaper rash, called caldesene protecting powder. Also used for chaffed skin. I used it more overnight than while we were out. So i'm not sure on it's uses for Disney, walking with it on.. but it could be a cheaper alternative as well. I've seen it for sale at Walgreens, but here's the link on Amazon...
