Clothes on pets

Yes. I make my dog wear "fascinator" hats, either sprouting from her forehead or attached to one ear. I make my cats wear eight inch stilletos, and metallic dresses.

No. Clothing on pets is stupid.

At the risk of getting ridiculed again...sigh...I'm asking another question. Do you put clothes on your pets? My dog is pretty big and I haven't been able to find anything cute that will fit him, but he doesn't like clothes anyway. But I do get pretty scarves to put on him for walks, so he will look good, I'm able to find colors that complement his fur.
I do find cute little clothes for cats and they make tiaras for cats too, but I don't do the tiara thing, they just have cute little shirts and coats.
Im kinda done with pets but it would be fun to get a fluffy little white dog because they look good in everything.
I have seen stroller/carriers for dogs but to me that's going too far.

Op, don't be afraid to ask questions. I love your posts! They are the highlight of my night sometimes. ;)

My mom was a dog groomer(had her own business for years) and REFUSED to put cutesy clothes and ribbons and all that junk on dogs. Many of her clients were grateful for that...so many groomers will do it without even asking first! I'm so sure that Bruno the male bulldog really appreciates the pink bow on the top of his head(the ORIGINAL fascinator:lmao: )

We did have two miniature schnauzers that each had a sweater only for those cold Syracuse winters. The sweaters were very plain and only went on when they went outside and came off the minute they were back inside.

We dressed our dog for halloween once- he actually liked wearing it, but keeping him still to put it on was awful (he NEVER sits still). So he hasn't worn anything since. Every once in a while he'll get a bandana on his collar, but that's it.

My dog, a very elderly pug, has 1 wool sweater. He wears it when he goes outside in the winter. He hates it, but since he is old with a short coat, and we live in Philly, he needs it.

My dog growing up would wear a University of Michigan sweater on game days, nothing else.

One of my Scotties had some cute little winter coats and a sweater poncho. I got these for her the winter her health declined and she was shaved repeatedly for ultrasounds. She would get cold and shake. She needed them for warmth. I packed them away when she died.

I have two matching fleece winter wraps that my mom made for my first two dogs and I have two corduroy jackets (again for the first two dogs). The dogs didn't wear them much so they have been handed down to the current two dogs. I tend to skip the winter grooming so a jacket is rarely needed. My dogs do have an assortment of holiday bandannas, but this is more for photographic reasons. Three of my Scotties have been jet black and very difficult to photograph. A colorful bandanna makes for a better photo.

I do see a purpose for dog clothing if the animal needs it for warmth in the winter or is ill. I could even see Pakey's dog needing a light tee-shirt for protection in the harsh sun. I just bathed my black Scottie girl today. I can't imagine putting clothing over this glistening, shining gorgeous fur.

I have seen some photos of Scotties and Westies dressed in tartan plaid jackets and they look very dashing. Can't see me needing any more dog jackets though and I don't want to waste money for something the dogs won't enjoy.

As far as dressing a cat.... I tried that once in elementary school. The cat taught me a lesson I have yet to forget. ;)

With the exception of small dogs or any dog that is susceptible to chilly weather and requires a "sweater", I don't get the whole dog clothes thing.

I am merely sharing my opinion and nothing will change it....my thoughts are that it just isn't cute or "normal". Animals are not humans and while I do not mind that dogs and cats (or whatever animal) have been domesticated to be companions to us humans, I do not favor personifying them and doing human things for them. So no clothes, nail polish, Fiji water in the drinking bowl, birthday parties, wedding ceremonies, puppy/kitten showers, jewelry, puppy-spas, claw polish, private rooms, or baby strollers.

I find it absolutely ridiculous.

Warmth or protection--I can understand that. Making your pet an accessory or human child substitute...I don't get it at all.

It does make Beverly Hills Chihuahua a funny movie with all that stuff--but humanizing our pets should not be something we should be doing.

I'm starting to think your 12 and spring break is going to be over soon.

But in case I'm wrong..... Do I dress my dog? Sure, she has bows and bandanas. She's 130 lbs so it's safe to assume she isn't wearing shirts or being pushed in strollers. Would I take to the extreme if I could find something for her? No. I'd like to think she has some dignity.

And I'll be the first one to say it. Dogs AND cats are not accessories. For the love of God don't go get one just because it matches your outfit, or you think white matches everything and it would be easy for you to buy it clothes. Get a job, ( another one ) get a hobby, get some counseling, but please don't get a dog.

I'm starting to think that too.

No, I think it looks ridiculous so I would never do it. No offense to those that think it's cute, thats just my personal opinion.

I do not dress up my dog. She would bite me if I tried and I kind of like all 10 fingers, but I did buy her a sweater because she gets cold very easily. She just never lets me put it on. I also bought her a backpack for Christmas a couple years ago, but not because I think it's cute. I got it because she is so high energy and I figured when I walked her I could put it on her and throw her long leash (because it's easier than carrying it) and a couple bottles of water so she had some extra weight to help wear her out.

My mom's Yorkie, on the other hand, does get dressed up. It started as a joke, but my mom, who is really not a dog person (though she adores her Yorkie) thought it was cute and now she dresses her up everytime we go out. She has a bath robe (I bought it as a joke, but my mom put it on the dog, Miami, and my mom and Miami both loved it). She has a bunch of t-shirts (One that says I <3 Miami), several winter jackets (and a scarf), a sun dress, a couple sweaters. She also has a bikini that I bought at Petsmart for $2 because I thought it was funny and had no intention of actually having her wear it other than to put it on once for a couple pictures. My mom saw it and insisted we bring it with us when we took Miami to Miami and when we were sitting by the pool, she had her bikini on.

Miami after a hard night of partying...notice her clubbing dress that says "Feisty" with the zebra print skirt (this picture was a joke, I posted a series of pictures on Facebook for everyone at home to follow her adventure and it kind of evolved into a big elaborate thing)

Is there a full moon tonight?? What is going on here??

I am completely baffled by the OP and her recent spate of threads. Here's a hint OP...you're going to get creamed for them 'round here...and IMO rightly so. You said as much in your OP. So just lay low for a while huh?

yEp! Im a doggie dresser! ours has coats, a tee shirt and numerous bandanas. I also dress my moms 16 year old cat in poodle sweaters (shes a tiny cat)but thats for her own good. Nothing worse then watching a skinny cat shiver in the winter. I know when I was a little girl (like 5) I used to dress the cat in baby clothes. She didnt mind, except when I over dressed her, and she couldnt walk and would fall over :rotfl2:

Yes, my dog has clothes. No, I do not dress him everyday.

I never wanted to put clothes on my dog. He is a shih tzu. When he got his first grooming, I was shocked at how short the cut was. And the weather suddenly got extremely cold that week. I had to get him a coat. My husband brought home the cutest coat... so um, then we added clothes to the collection.

He loves to wear the stuff. I don't just say that because I want to put it on him. Unlike some dogs, he doesn't like to be under blankets or under other things. However, if I put a shirt or sweater on him, he curls up and gets all comfy and goes to sleep.

Also, he has PJs (yes, laugh if you want)... At first we did sort of get them as a joke. However, on several occassions, he would not let us sleep until we put them on him. *Shrugs* he is an odd one!

Again, he doesn't wear clothes all the time and he DESPISES hats and hoods.

I say to each his own. We do use sweaters and coats a lot in the winter because it does get cold. Even though he has fur, he still is small. It is suggested that small dogs do wear coats.

And just to give you a laugh... or something to just plain make fun of (I don't care either way)... below is a pic of him in his jammies. If you were to meet this dog in person, you would totally "get" the whole clothing thing. :goodvibes
