We will be home at SSR this Sunday! Can someone tell me where the closest grocery store is to SSR? We will be driving and need to get some things after we arrive on Sunday night.

Thanks!

WinDixie is right around the corner. Get directions from the front desk.

It may be a tad closer than Win-Dixie -- and a lot pricier. At the Crossroads, 'natch.

Goodings is probably the closest, but their prices are Disney World high. Winn Dixie is the next closest, and they have real world prices. Go past DTD and exit the property via Hotel Row. When you get to SR535, turn left and go about 1 mile to Winn Dixie on the right hand side. It is right behind ABC liquors.

I like Publix or Walmart better than winnie dixie - but everyone is different.

there is now a Target not far

You may as well purchase your items at Artist Pallette, they have about the same limited selection. (Okay I exaggerate, but almost).

I would chose the Publix which is right across from the Orlando Premier Outlet Mall!

You kill two birds with one stone!

Prices are very reasonable at the Publix! Goodings, close location but out of this world pricing!

Scratch

I live in Illinois, but ordered a Winn-Dixie discount card on the net. Staying at SSR & Old Key West I have saved a few bucks shopping there with the discount card. :D

We just returned from a trip to SSR and I planned ahead and got a Winn Dixie card. It worked at very well and was just 2 minutes past Goodings! I was satisfied with the prices. I estimate that we saved about $175 by making a breakfast and most of our lunches in the room!

Just curious.... Does Gooding's still have the carpeted aisle ways? I remember that being absolutely horrid a few years ago. Imagine pushing a cart full of groceries on carpet......

..... Oh, I just figured out why the prices are so high - they have to make money to have the carpets cleaned from all the spills that occur in a grocery store (haha).

Yes the entire store is carpeted! LOL I thought there was something different about the store, but couldnt quite put my finger on it! We were there the sat evening that H-Jeanne came thru. We were staying at SSR and didnt want to go too far so we sucked it up and went to Goodings. It was like trying to grocery shop at a 7 eleven! They had plenty of everything whereas the other stores were sold out. (Due to their prices)

If artist pallette has the beer and wine selection that Gooding's does, we'll have to start using that SSR add-on we bought.

That said, Gooding's is way to high on their prices - they are aimed mostly at tourists, and the price and selection reflects that.

Is SR535 the road that runs left / right in front of crossroads. (Ie turn left at Goodlings, to get to Winn Dixie).

And how do you get to the publix, premium malls?

Thanks, Goldi

Winn Dixie if you go out to the lights at the end of hotel plaza blvd at the Crossroads centre turn left and go down past the Olive garden and Sizzlers on the right hand side you can't miss it.

We found the Winn Dixie near SSR to have poor selection and higher prices. It is very bleak too. Maybe it's just the market we're in...but were used to nice, new, clean grocery stores. WD didn't cut it...especially since we were paying more than we were used to.

Publix is great...that's where I would head if any of the above criteria matter to you. I admit that I never thought I would like Walmart. However, I now shop there almost every week! Incredible price and selection...and cleanliness (depending on the store). I'm a Target fan too...but their grocery selection leaves a lot to be desired.

Goldi: to get to the Publix, turn right off of Hotel Plaza Blvd. onto 535 at Crossroads. Get in the left lane, just after you pass under I-4, turn left onto Vineland road--it will curve aroungd til Publix.

I love the way opinions differ. I much prefered the Winn-Dixie to the Publix. The store appears to be very new and clean. It had an excellent selection of deli items and things were looking for.

Publix--I was unimpressed the first time I went, then I tried to go just before Hurricane Jeanne--I called and they said they would be open til 4 pm--got there at 3:30 and the doors were locked. The manager came to the door because there were a number of people standing out there looking at their watches and the HUGE note on the door saying "we will be closing at 4" Manager was not very pleasant. Of course I realize that everyone was under alot of stress, but the people at Walgreens were very nice--I went there next.
