Ohh, I don't have kids. I am just sewing for mainly a friends daughter, and sometimes for my little cousin. I feel like the simply sweet pattern is so close to the stripwork jumper pattern, that it won't be worth it. and I am not sure I like the bowling shirt on baby girls. I am way to picky, I think. Thanks for the suggestions!

Is the A-line pattern good?

I felt like that too but eventually ended up getting it because of the halter style :) When I got the strip work it was all the rage around here and I am pretty sure the simply sweet hadn't come out yet.

I love, love, love the perfectly preppy skirts and skorts - the flouncy skirt is awesome :) I also have but have been afraid to try the bowling shirt and raglan tee - maybe once I am more settled after my studying. . . The A-line jumper is cute and fairly easy (if you read all the directions, I learned my lesson!)

I sew for others also, I don't have children yet. The patterns I use the most are the simply sweet, easy fit pants/shorts, portrait peasant and perfectly preppy shirts/skorts.

My Daughter does the same thing...we go to the fabric store and she selects her fabrics :) it is so cute and fun. Although the owner of the small Quilt/Fabric store that we go to says that I am ruining her (when it comes to clothes)...hahahaha!! Store bought will never do for her :) J/K...she still loves gymboree! I am always tempted to say (and do sometimes)...I am not going to pay 30 for that skirt...I can make it! Anyone else find themselves saying that???

And I totally agree...Thank You to Carla C!!! Her patterns gave me the courage to expande my skills and I am having so much fun! If you haven't tried one of her patterns...you are really missing out!!

Time to get to work...Have a great day all!!
I am one of those that tells my child, "I can make that and you can get in a color or print that you want". I was talking to DH's grandma last night and she told me that she used to do the same thing for her children when they were kids. She said that she used to go to the stores with a sketch pad and draw pictures of what she saw and she would go home and mix and match her patterns and make whatever it was that her DD wanted. I thought was really cool and she thought it was neat that I did the same thing.

I just wanted to 2nd that...I make this set, with adjustments only to wider strips...the bodice is very true to size. I have made it is all sizes and have found no issues :)

This is my favorite pattern still!!

Thanks for the hints, I plan to make it soon. :thumbsup2

For a baby girl - I really like the Aline alot - its so cute and can be worn in cold or warm weather etc...the flouncy skirt is also a big winner if you ask me - it looks ADORABLE!!!!! I found the simply sweet to be very very similar to the stripwork as well - I also am not totally in love with the raglan yet - when I can buy a shirt for a dollar or 2 at walmart or target,,,,,,,Im sure I'll fall in love with it when I make a hoodie out of fleece for the kids!!!

Wow! I was gone for two days and there were like 17 pages that I had to catch up on! Whew! I need to do like others and stop using the computer if I want to get anything done! I didn't even try to multi-quote since it would have taken me forever. Love everything I saw though! Our ice that we got Tuesday night caused us to have a "snow"day yesterday but it was all gone by about noon yesterday. So my girls will have had 3 days off in a row and they are going a little stir crazy! Okay, I'm going to go and entertain them!

Hi all, it has been a long time since I have been on-I have been lurking here and there tho and what great stuff. Everyone has come such a along way! Life has definitely been in the way! My DH has been laid off 2 times in 2 years, but is finally back to work! My 28 year old SIL was diagnosed with Inflamatory Breast Cancer back in June and after a hard battle the Doctors have just told her that it is terminal. So we are squeezing in a birthday trip for her in a few weeks and she is going to renew her vows. She found out on their 2nd anniversary in November that the cancer had spread to her spinal fluid. So we are hoping that a little Disney magic will help her feel a little better right now and inspire her to push on a little longer!

With that being said I am trying to make a few customs for my kids because it is unlikely that my Disney-hater husband will want to go back anytime soon. Can anyone tell me what pattern was used for this top? Thanks and it is great to be back on the boutique board!

So I found a project that I thought I could do. It took a few times, but I made the T-shirt dress (sewing a skirt and sewing it to a half of a tshirt). It took a few tries to get a gathering stitch down, but all went well. I got it done, turned everything right side out only to find...I had sewn the t shirt wrong side out..while I was upset at my error, I was encouraged at how well it came out. I hope to fix it and get a picture of my daughter to go in it..

Crystal...thanks for the encouragement. I will get this, it just might take me a while. :)

Luvtogo2Disney - I see you have my husband in your avatar....:rotfl:

We have your family in our prayers and are hopeful for some Disney Magic for all of you. My husband is not so big on Disney either, so I know what it means to push, pull and drag him down there.

Hooray for your husband :cheer2:

I am sorry to hear about your SIL, that has to be hard for you and your family. Prayers and well wishes her way. :flower3:

Hey ladies! I was looking for a new machine today for under $300. and I came accross this:
http://www.hsn.com/todays-special_xh.aspx?o=!HPTS&ocm=todspc&cm_re=TS*4624360*na

I want something with a rolled hem feature or an overlock stitch because I do not have a serger and this has it. It also has free shipping today. Just wondering what all you experts think about this. I only have an old Brother with basic stitches that I use. I need something new.

Is this worth it or is it junk? Am I better off with something else?

Thanks for your opinions!

Hi guys! It is really nice to see how many of you have the Big Give buttons in your signatures!!!

I've noticed though that quite a few don't direct people to the Big Give site. If you could take a momment and change the code in your siggy so that when people click the button, it takes them to the site, that would be great!!! If you need directions for doing that, you can get the code here:

http://s3.excoboard.com/exco/thread.php?forumid=55881&threadid=458810

Just copy and past the code below the picture you like into your Dis siggy (taking out the spaces).

Thanks! :thumbsup2

All you had to do is tell me I screwed up..lol I could take it.
Let me fix it right now :thumbsup2

Just got back from the fabric store. I was looking for material to make a couple of girl things for the Art's and Crafts Auction at the kids' school. This is what I came back with. Opinions please. I don't have much confidence in my fabric picking skills for girls.

This is for an A-line and a pair of Capris with cuffs. Probably a small size, like 18 - 24 mos.

And this is for a Simply Sweet. Probably in a size 3 or 4.

This Auction has given me the excuse I needed to try to sew some girls stuff. I will be sure to post when I am done.

Also, last night I made another pair of PJ bottoms for the sale. Will start on a top tonight.

Hi everyone

I've been MIA, and I'm not sure I can catch up with all the stuff I've missed! I really need to get sewing, but we've changed our minds about having the playroom in the basement, so I moved the toys into what was going to be my sewing room, and my sewing stuff in the basement. Then I bought a couple of long folding tables, and sorted stuff. Then I stopped. :rotfl: I haven't set up anything! I have to move the Rubbermaid bins of Christmas stuff, and donate a bunch of baby things to Goodwill. Then I can "pretty" the basement and make a real sewing/craft room.

BUT I NEED INSPIRATION!! So to help me get off my a$$, please post pics of your sewing spaces: doesn't matter if it's not a whole room, or if it's messy (a clean sewing room creeps me out anyway). Then hopefully once the kids are back at school (they've been home sick), I can get everything organized and start sewing again. :cheer2:

Okay thanks, now I'll get back to trying to catch up on my comments. Oh, and planning/scheming a way to go someplace warm with a beach for Spring Break . . .

I don't really have a sewing room or space. I just use my basement table to sew and I do my cutting upstairs while the kids nap :)

My sewing area is my dining room... just really messy ;)
Although Hubby and I just decided that I can have a wall in our bedroom for sewing :cool1: . I was looking at sewing tables online and found a couple that might be nice in that space. But I am not convinced it something I "need". The first step is cleaning out that area and moving my stuff up.
Can't wait to see what you come up with.

I am thinking I might go for the A-line. I agree about the raglan. I can buy tshirts at the Gap for $6 so spending that much onfabric and having to make it doesn't make sense to me. But maybe i'm lazy.
