Help. How do I fix my daughter? Do I want to fix her??

We call her Auntie her Fairygodmother and up until about a year ago I truly think she thought that all she did was waive a wand and clothes appeared. She has become accustomed to having special outfits. Last year at school they had free dress day at school as long as you dressed to the theme. One of the days was black/white checkers. Unbeknown to me she asked her Auntie for something checkered 2 days before. And the next day Auntie showed up with a checkered outfit.

If you have read this far.:thumbsup2

So I am getting her ready for a rest right now as she is going to a birthday party later today. She tells me that when she gets up she wants to put on her cute tinkerbell outfit.:confused3
I ask what cute tinkerbell outfit. You know for the party she replies.

What have I done???

She does have this....
DSC01896.jpg

She could wear it with a long sleeve top and jeans. Or should I just tell her to wear regular clothes???

Sorry for the loooooooooooong post.

Keep the magic alive and don't fix her! Go with the long sleeves and jeans under the tink outfit, she'll look adorable.

My DD9 said to me this Halloween, "Isn't it sad how some children have to buy their Halloween costumes because they don't have moms who will make them." At first I was like, "yea, real sad... those poor children (ha-ha)" but the more I thought about it the more I realized how much she appreciates what I do, even if its a lot of work. I'm sure your daughter's auntie feels the same way. Its something special she can do for her.

Thank you for all your compliments on my DD's snow white dress! They are truly appreciated!

Actually there is a book that just got re-released called "Perfect Picture Smocking" I think. http://www.smocking.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=3507
I want to get it for myself because I am a self taught smocker. I've heard great things about the book. Let me know if you get it. I have all the Australian Smocking books on smocking. They don't have just a whole lot on picture smocking. THey do have all smocking stitches in there, but you really use that for geometric. You mostly use the same stitch over and over again for picture smocking. Sewing for Smockers and the regular smocking one by AS&E are 2 of my favorites though. I can't think of the exact titles right now. Pm me if you need them ever. :)

Thank you! I think that is why I like it too. There is something so sweet about her with her little deer, racoon, and bunny!

Thank you for posting that! Thanks for the compliments too. I am going to tell Jen that I love your bow and to make it simliar! ;)
Did she include the centers?

:)

I showed Jennifer the fabrics I was using and the applique and she did the rest. She added the centers. She also made Belle and Ariel bows using those same centers - I love them all!!

I started a trip report. Please come post and comment.

Also, I know you have all posted some Made to Match Gymbo things before. Is there a message board or photos of some of the outfits? I got Abby some really cute shorts with my Gymbucks last week. Now I need a shirt to match. The shorts have the flowers and fish on them.

I got a lot of stuff with my Gymbucks. I was trying to stretch it out and get some basics. I got Ethan a package of sports socks (3 pairs), two pairs of shorts and one pair of underwear with glow in the dark planets. I got Abby 4 pairs of shorts. All for 56.00. (after my $50 in Gymbucks) Not bad :scratchin

Hi all...just stopping by to say a stuffed up Hi...I got Patrick's sick from last weekend. Timmy had it on Wednesday- Friday...Now it's me...YUCK! :crazy2: I want to sew...went in the sewing room twice...looked around, sat on my stool, walked out and laid on the couch...I need to clean my house. It is a true mess right now...I have no strength.

Saw so many cute outfits...Great job everybody...

Have a great..sniff...weekend!

I say let her wear the green top with a long sleeved shirt and jeans, but I don't think there is anything to fix. Part of being a child is believing in magic.

Well, no sewing today but I did cut out material to make the top for a Big give outfit and cut out material for Sara Beth's colonial williamsburg dress. Hopefully I will get some sewing done tomorrow and might even have time to skoot over to moms to use her serger. If I am making something for someone else it has to be serged! Any ideas where to get a good used serger? I really want one but don't have the money.

Dh is playing phone tag with a company in Wisconsin. I would love to move there even more afer reading more about it. Hopefully he can catch up with the lady who called.

Hey...just a thought...not sure...but there is that Singer shop in the shopping center with Hancock's...I have never been in ther, but maybe they have some refurb sergers? Just a thouhgt.

And WI...it is cold there you know!:rotfl2: I hope it works out for whatever is right...Good luck!:thumbsup2

Thanks for the replies. It so does feel like magic. My girls love their Auntie and the treats she makes them.

I did realize I am in trouble though. This is the first party both girls have been invited to. If I put the oldest in her Tink top the youngest will want something too.

My hubby so does not get this. I am glad you all do. I feel a little bit like I am telling her there is no Santa.:guilty:

Jennifer makes fabulous bows! I wish I could use her services but I don't think Dallas would much appreciate a bow in his hair!

Your DD is a cutie, her outfits were so cute. I am dreading the day when my DDs decide they are too old for customs. Hopefully I can fit a few more trips in before they come to that decision. Your bag is really cute! Do you mind me asking how big it is? It looks like it might make a great diaper bag.

I don't think I personally would use it as such, mainly because I carried everything under the kitchen sink in mine.
I used Burda patterns 8325 bag pattern as the start and folded out 3 inches in both width and height, then added the center panel for a place to hide valuables. Of course, you could leave in that 3 inches, and cut apart the pattern to add more width/height as needed - just do it consistently to all the pattern pieces.

Here is a shot of her holding the bag-note that she is around 4'6" for size.

I wanted to put this in a post all it's own because it has been a very hard lesson for me to learn. This is only my opinion and we all have them, you may not agree and that is ok.

Giving, it is a selfless act of compassion and caring. When I give it comes with no terms and conditions. I can not expect anything in return. I must give from my heart and that is the reward. I don't expect a card, picture or post. I don't even look. Giving must be just for the reason of giving and nothing else.

I did get a thank you card for the ears and I was pleasantly surprised. It was how we were raised. Thank you notes for gifts, dinners, etc. But it is a thing of the past. I don't expect them but it was sure nice!

Giving with out any conditions at all can be so hard. I have seen gifts in the past get destroyed but I must remember that once it left my hands it is no longer mine and relinquish all care of said item. When I give, I must give with love and then what happens is up to the receipient.

I am honoured to be part of the Big Gives and I feel that I get more from them than the families. It encourages me to sew as best I can, be creative, and I am making new friends from asking for help. My family doesn't understand but they know when I sew for a Big Give I am happy.

I hope everyone continues to participate in this rewarding program.

This is beautiful!! Your smocking looks perfect. I had Jennifer (JenWDW) make some Snow White bows for us and they are one of my favorites from her!

IMG_1232.jpg

Ok, I just have to say I love the evil queen. DS sees her and says look mommy it is your hero. :rotfl: I love that applique on the bottom of the pant leg. If you ever will consider to let me CASE it, just give me the word and I will be making it with a lot of questions and asking help from you.

I love it.

Dear poohnpigletCA:
FIX HER!
Love,
auntie Fairygoodmother

Seriously, Karen, keep the magic alive. She won't always be this little, and she won't always believe. And she won't always have me to bibbidy-bobbidy-boo for her. And if you think little sister is going to lose her mind over not having anything Tink to wear, come over...I have fabric :)

or...1) go to the office supply store 2) purchase iron on printer paper 3) find Tinkerbell clip art 4) print onto the iron on paper 5) iron it onto a t-shirt

VOILA! Tinkerbell clothing. And I happen to know the office supply store is not too far from your home. :)

I really love this!!!! Was it hard to make??

I enjoy being part of the big gives too - I have been fortunate and have received thank you notes for each one I have participated in. When you think about the kids, the magic the big wish gives them, its awesome. In my familiy's case, we may be on the other end at some time too! Daniel had a good week this week - walked into the therapy department from the lobby this week (with his walker)! Still slow to speak though - ugh!! Frustrating for him! Poor Guy!

Back to the laundry and a winter mickey simply sweet for hannah!!:laundy:

First, I hope you feel better. I hate when I can't sew!
Second, I never thought of the singer place. I might have to check them out. I am trying to avoid fabric places for a few weeks...although I feel a trip to Mary jos in the near future!

Third...I know WI is cold.....I am not sure if dh could handle it as he is a sourthern boy through and through. But, we are still just looking right now.

Finished my latest Big Give outfit this afternoon.

Jan_misc.jpg

I also finished my daughter's Valentine's Skirt. Hopefully she will consent to model it soon. I showed it to her and she said thanks mom. She's in a nekkid kick right now and once her clothes are off, you can't get her to get dressed again just to hang around the house. It drives me nuts. ( I probably should clarify that she will be 3 in 2 months and is in the middle of Potty Training. Nekkid means running around in a pullup)

A lurker delurking to say hello! I love all of the outfits you all create! I do not sew - at all. I do however make iron-on t-shirts and sweatshirts and just participated in my first big give so I thought it was time to officially say hello. I usually customize others dissigns but have started trying my hand at dissigning in photoshop elements.

I also love to scrapbook - especially our Disney trips. I have heard the word Cricut around here so maybe I will not be totally out of place among you boutiquers. ;)

Anyway - I just wanted to say hi and share a photo of my first Big Give shirt and a sweatshirt I made for our family trip. Jen

First off.. I hate ironing. I refused to iron this dress twice in one night, so here it is all wrinkled and dirty after she wore it. :rotfl2:

I made this back in November. I never take the time to take pictures of things to post. Hannah wore this to a party tonight, so I figured I should get some quick pics! I'm going to have to redo this dress because it is running pretty small on her right now. I'm just going to rip it apart and keep the smocking plate and start over. :scared: This was by far the hardest smocking plate I have done because I didn't have the smocking plate. I just had a picture of the smocking plate. Why oh why did I torture myself??? I had to make up alot of it as I went.
I plan on getting a Jen bow to go with this one. I think it needs one. The headband is cute, but she won't keep it on!
th_snowwhitesmocked3.jpg

I hope to catch up later. Working on Valentine's dress. I digitized a cute Minnie and Mickey design and it came out way too small in my 5 by 7 hoop. It would look great if I had a larger hoop. :snooty:
I think I am going to freehand applique. Heather tutorial here I come! :upsidedow
That turned out really nice.

Wow...you guys sure do keep busy!!! Once again, such beautiful outfits posted. I am hoping to share some more of mine soon. My DH has been out of town all week for business and I haven't seemed to have much time to myself. I have been staying busy with the kids and also trying to finish up my DD's room...I decided to paint it 2 days before my husband went out of town. Not the best idea on my part...seeing as though her room is STILL all torn apart!! Hahaha. It is going to be a TinkerBell/ Peter Pan room..hahaha!!! (Taylor LOVES Peter Pan!!!)

Anyway...do any of you have any Tinker Bell or Peter Pan themed bedrooms? I would LOVE to see pictures if you do. Thanks!!

:goodvibes

I have no advice, but I hope you'll post pictures when you are done!

My grandparents have paneling in their kitchen/ dining room area and they painted it and it looks great now. They also had it in the room that my daughter stays in when she is over there and they painted it and it was an improvement. Don't let him tell you that ;).

My parents painted the ugly paneling in their basement before. It was really textured stuff and had grooves. It looked so much better when they were done! My inlaws painting some paneling before too and it looked good.
I promised that I'd post pics of what I decided to do with the closure of the wrap dress. I had actually purchased a frog closure, but when I went to put it on, I couldn't find it. SO, I went with my second choice. Buttons. I also put in a snap at the neckline where it makes a "v" just to make sure that it doesn't gap. I have to say that it appears to be very secure to me. I don't think that we'll have any problems with it falling off! SO, here's the pics.

This one is just to prove that my DD does still exist! YES, she is asleep, and YES, she has on her PJ's. She wasn't too happy with me.

Aww, how cute!

Hello! Does anyone have a relatively easy, pattern for a fabric pin or brooch? I looked on the bookmarks but nothing comes up.

We are doing an "Animator's Palette" theme for our Mother/Daughter Banquet this year. We are asking all the ladies to wear black and white and then their favors will be the colorful pins and the younger ladies will get headbands. Thanks for any ideas!
There are some fabirc flower patterns in the bookmarks. I believe most items like that are under embelishments.

So cute! What fun!
I've gone back through and looked at all the great work. Glad to know I'm not the only one who does this!

Here are some shots of outfits from our trip in 2007, when DD would allow me to make such a thing.

Really cute!!!
Okay, here goes nothing! First attempt to post a photo...

th_IMG_0373.jpg

This dress was my first smocking project. DD who is now 9 wore this dress when she was 4, 5 & 6. She wishes it would still fit! DD2 will hopefully wear it this Easter. Notice the sneakers! This is at the Easter Egg hunt at the Naval Academy and it is a run for your life event to get as many eggs as possible. The mids put out 1000's of eggs, it is so much fun!

Trust me, from what I've seen on these boards, you all can do it if I can do it!
Your daughter looks a lot like my Lydia! I love that dress!

Isn't that the truth!

I have just to say that some of the families that have received items from the Big Gives don't have alot of free time to post. Some are dealing with medical issues, or just real life gets in the way. I know how that is.
To me, the best part is knowing that I gave of my own free time to make something special for a family. I hope that my little contribution will help make memories of their trip to last a lifetime.
I figure once the outfit leaves my door, it is up to the individuals what they want to do with it. Some people just aren't comfortable with posting pictures of their children, and I can understand that.
I have received PM's from some of the Gives that I have participated in, and do really appreciate that they took the time to do that. But, I don't expect them to.
JMO!

Thanks for the posotive responses guys! We have to remember these are families that often have very sick children.

We also should remember that they are ALL memebers of this board and many of them read this thread.

There have been several times that the children have gotten very sick after the family have returned from vacation. So, I'm sure that is why some haven't posted much.

I have to admit, I love it when a family posts lots of pictures! Check out Becca's (llurgy)Wish Trip Report if you want to see some of the best pictures ever!
