Can someone tell me what a King Cake is???? (apparently I'm forgetting that this is a sewing thread!!!)

Do I need to pack some in my suitcase? Mmmmmmm I am going to get one for my workers for our breakfast meeting this week. They will probably want donuts again, but I want a king cake!

:confused3 LOL...I don't know what a King Cake is either!!!???? lol
Oh, and it usually has a tiny plastic baby inside of it. You can't tell where it is until you cut it and start eating it. Whoever gets the king cake baby has to buy the next king cake. It is a fun little cajun tradition... here at least. :)

Thanks everyone for the King Cake explaination!!! We just have plain old cakes up here :lmao: More reasons for me to love New Orleans!!!

I thought that I would be the enabler this time. I posted this over on couteau_chick's PTR, but thought I would post it over here. It is Mardi Gras time and that means King Cakes are back in season. The bakery that I used to work at will ship a King Cake and all of the things to have a party to anywhere in the US. They are very yummy.
http://bakingmemories.com/

Ooh! Those look good. I've never had a King Cake but I'm sure I'd like it (as if I have ever met a cake I didn't like). How was working in a bakery? I always think I would like to work in a bakery - except for maybe the hours.

Oh my gosh I am going to kill my computer! I cannot get onto e-mail and I will be in big trouble with the PTA if I've lost all of them. And all my settings are lost. I just typed this post and went to spell check and all of a sudden I don't have spell check and I lost the entire post!

Anyway, for the second time, I have been busy with company sewing for the fater/daughter western dance and the dismeet. The kids are driving me absolutely crazy as well.

Megan decided she wanted the gingham dress for the dance:

But her little cowboy hat has a red star and she has black boots so I picked out some different fabrics. Do you think the black is too long? I think I need to take off the fringe and cut down the black and put it back on.

I did discover something new. Sometimes when I am attaching multiple layers to a bodice it gets all twisted and folded. Especially when you attach it to the wrong side and have to rip it out and start over. :crazy2: So after I did that, I ironed on about an inch of interfacing to the bottom of the bodice and that made it much easier to sew! Hope my mistakes help someone.

And, here we go Steelers!

IMG_1106.jpg

Cute outfit for the daddy/daughter dance. I like it!
I have done that too many times to count where I screw up the "attaching" of the bodice. I kind of sew now with one hand stuck in the skirt part now trying to make sure it all stays "straight" so I won't screw it up. Thanks for the tip!

Okay, I think this is it... I think I am finally in labor! Don't chat too much since I won't be able to check the boards for a couple of days!

:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: Good luck and let us know when the new baby arrives. I am praying for an easy and speedy delivery, and especially for a happy healthy new baby!

Piper - cute outfits!!

Megan - love your cowgirl outfit!!

I'd LOVE to try a king cake - sounds yummy!!!

Superbowl party is over - the company is now all gone - ugh - the mess in our basement is unbelieveable!!! 8 kids can do a LOT of messing up but not cleaning up :rotfl: !!!!! The best thing of the night was at the dollar store I had gotten a little party pack of 6 tiny football helmets to use as decorations. So I had set them all around one floor of our house. Well, one of the kids noticed one and I told him it was a challenge to see if he could find the rest - well, the kids LOVED this game, and really it kept them busy until halftime!! They'd all find them, I'd hide them back and forth we went - it was AWESOME!!!! lol!!! Totally got my bang out of that buck!!!!:rotfl2: The other adults appreciated that I never hid them in the living room where our TV is!!!! Sooooo funny, how kids can be entertained by such a simple thing!!!

i was just looking at pics on an older thread and saw a pic of
adoptionmomma4's adorable little girl and was wondering if she has been around . i was just wondering how she was doing? has she been on? has anyone heard from her?

It looks great. I need to make simple things like that. I always want to embroider on EVERYTHING! :confused3
It really showcases the fabric. :thumbsup2

I am practicing sewing/ appliquing (not sure of the terms:confused3 yet!!!) so thank you for your help! I am now wondering where you guys get all of these great fabrics from??? I went to my fabric store and only found a few/ not too great things. I am hoping to make some stuff in the coming weeks so I can post and get some opinons. I am a very basic sewer but I figured if I had some cute disney fabric anything would look good pixiedust: !!!!

UGh what a night! We where watching the super bowl having a nice time. Half time rolls around I am all excited Bruce is on` I LOVE Bruce i have seen him live many times with my best friend usually in NJ since to us there really isn't any better place to see him then his hometown crowd. Any way. Nikki is watching the half time with me and she starts feeling this dripping on her head:scared1: So I am thinking ok kid sure just be quiet Bruce is on! :rotfl: Well she was right! the ceiling started dripping ALOT!:scared1: :scared1: Well turns out my rocket scientist son 'forgot' UGH to shut off the faucet in the bathroom up stairs when he was brushing his teeth so he flooded the bathroom!:headache: :headache: So George freaks out sends him to bed as he is cleaning up the bathroom. So I had to put 3 large pasta pots down on my 10 + yr old floors along with lots of towels. Then we prayer the 100+ yr old plaster didn't totally break! :confused3 Thankfully it stopped leaking and will take awhile to dry. In the end no real damage that we can see was done. We think this must have happened before because we could always tell that the ceiling in the living room had been patched and had a crack. We figured since the house was built in 1891 that was pretty good only having 1 crack in the ceiling!

How funny to see this! I haven't checked in for a while. Just busy with busy life. Riley is on a competitive dance team, has to take a ballet class, and is doing basketball. I miss life with preschoolers when I got to decide what I did and when!

Hope everything is well for everyone. I'm mailing my big give outfit tomorrow morning.

I'll try to be better about checking in!
Glad to see you! The outfit is adorable!

I really wish we had a costco, but we only have sams :sad2:

I've gotten into making bows. I want to do outfits, but I'm too chicken. I have PLENTY of fabric to start. Does anyone have a suggestion on an easy pattern to kinda break me in?
I get mine at Joann's and Hanckock Fabric. Some others still have Walmarts that sell fabric.
I have been lurking, but I just wanted to pop in and say that everyone's stuff has been awesome lately!
I really hope that all the people leaving for the dismeet soon have a safe trip and awesome time!

Also, if you can, say a little prayer for me:) Some of you may remember that we were putting a large addition on, we ripped apart half our house and ran into a lot of problems. Anyway, we have been living in a ridiculously small space with 7 people, barely surviving. lol. We will not be continuing on with the addition, and today we put an offer in on another house. It is bank-owned, so they are accepting the best offer. It would save us so much stress and heartache if we get this house, so please pray that everything goes well!
Good luck!

Sending easy labor vibes tojeniamt.

Love the western outfit. The Minnie outfit is so cute! Love the buttons.

Last bit of sewing for at least a couple of weeks. I made coordinating outfits for Giuli and her baby brother. The picture isn't very good, but the pants have stripes in shades of blue and the coordinating fabric on Giuli's iis floral.

I'll try and make you feel a little better this morning!

Dallas did something similar about a year or two ago. Of course, looking back on it, it was more or less my fault. I told him to go in and take his shirt off and soak it. We wash our swimsuits in the sink all the time, so he totally knew what to do. BUT he obviously got distracted, left the sink running and Lin and I were still outside for a minute. We came in and did whenever when suddenly I thought I heard water running. Yep, left our master bath sink running! There was about 2 inches of water on the floor and it was just pouring through the ceiling into the basement, of course, what is under the bathroom you ask?

The computer room with both desk tops! It only fell onto Lin's, a ton of water though. Onto the hard drive and the screen/keyboard area. Somehow Lin saved it all and got it to work after a long time of letting it dry out. The ceiling tiles were ruined, but since it was the basement and we did it ourselves with the tiles we had extra and just put new ones in.

I was not crazy about the water on the wood and what not, but DH assured me all would be okay and no mold would grow! I freak out about stuff like that! But end result, all is good and will be at your house too! :thumbsup2

Oh my! I will tell you though tha is where i do my sewing so i 1st moved my new sewing machine before i did anything!:rotfl:
I am glad yo guys didn't ruin any of your computer stuff!
I figured at worst case we could probably patch the ceiling if need be but it looks like we are safe from that. For now!

Oh! I have a flood story too!!!:rotfl2: I was house sitting for my parents when I was about 21. My mom had told me her washer was acting up and to only use it when I could stay with it to make sure it switched cycles from the filling cycle...you guessed it...Hey! I was 21! It had been a late night!:lmao: So, I needed clothes for the next night and I put them in the washer and went to sleep. I woke up somewhere around 8 am the next day to the sound of rain...in the basement! I ran to shut the washer off and went to the basement where there was 2-3 inches of water standing in the basement (1100 sp. ft. basement!)...my parents also live on a well! Yep...it lost presssure! It was a nightmare. I cleaned up the water...called thier neighbor to come work on the well. In the mean time...the hardwood floor right outside the laundry room started to buckle and the ceiling in the basement started to come down! I just sat there and cried! I was able to get ti dried out and started the repair on the ceiling (I'm handy like that!) and pulled the flooring up in the hallway. My parents came home 2 days later...it was not pretty! They laugh about it now, but not so much then! :lmao:

Update on my Granny....we moved her to a nursing home this weekend. She is doing much better and seems to be making a great recovery. Thanks again for all the prayers...:goodvibes

I like the ruffle in pink idea if it is for a younger girl. But for an older one I would leave as is.
