(CLOSED) Disney's WILDERNESS LODGE and VILLAS INFORMATION THREAD ~11/13 - 6/14~

First I'd like to thank all of you for this amazing thread! I have found so much information that has helped me plan for our VWL stay in June. I haven't been able to find the answer to one question though... Our 2 1/2 year old goes to bed around 7 at night and typically we eat dinner after she is asleep. With all the amazing dining options at the lodge, it would be great if one of us could get food to go from one of the table service restaurants to bring back to our room while she sleeps. I'm wondering if this is possible, or if we have to stick to the limited options on the room service menu or counter service?

Thanks so much!

Yay! Magic bands have shipped! I am so looking forward to this vacation. There has been lots going on recently in my daily life that I cannot wait to get away.

Not all decorations are up that early (first week of November). I would go the first week of December. Not so crowded. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Same here, I really need this vacation, and I'm really looking forward to soaking in the Lodge for the first time! :thumbsup2

It didn't start feeling real to me until I got that shipping notice!

Does anyone know if we can get the cobbler from TL to go? Thought we might take it up to our room on a night or two!! ;)

Thanks!

Carla

Ok, advice needed! We were planning on the first week in November because the crowds are so low and we thought Christmas decorations would be up. I just spoke with someone and they may be going up at the parks by that time, but probably not at the WL. We could possibly change to the first week in December for the exact same price! I think that sounds even better because I really want to see WL at Christmastime. Are the crowds that much worse during this week? Also, it looks like statistically free dining has been offered during this time so that's a bonus!

That is traditionally Jersey Week. I would not go that week if you have a choice.

This morning I used the shower gel I used during our stay at WL last September...The scent of it made me think I am in the shower of our WL room :):)

Do you know this feeling when a scent is linked with your brain and makes you remember something special?

Would love to book a vacation now :rotfl:

Is it a different scent than the other resorts? I know last year the Poly was the same as the BC the year before... :-/

Jersey Week is still not all that crowded. Though everyone you run into will be from Jersey. I happen to like people from NJ ok. ;)

The nice thing about when we went that week is that the first days, the parks were decorated for Halloween. The last days, it was decorated for Christmas, so we got the bonus of seeing both.

Looking at the resort layout map on the first page, are there only 3 sets of elevators at the resort? (1 north side / 2 south side) Would I be correct in assuming the resort isn't extremely wide so if you are in a north side lobby room you still aren't very far from an elevator?

Very excited to stay at the WL for the first time!! We are book June 8 - 14.

We stayed at POR 2 years ago. We walked through WL on that trip and were awed.

2 kids ages 6 and 4, and I am finally sitting down today to do some planning. We have our ADRs and looking forward to a very magical vacation!!

We arrive at WL next Thursday! Can't wait to hear "Welcome Home" again. This is going to be a great, very relaxing way to celebrate my retirement.

If you see us in the Lodge or at the park, please stop us, say hi, and introduce yourself. DISers are the best.

Heading to VWL on Friday. Reading the Theme Park and Attractions/Strategies board has me so stressed out. So many complaints about FP+ and horrible lines at attractions that used to have low waits.

Hope our strategy of rope drop and making our 3 FP+ reservations for late morning/early afternoon will be OK. Our goal is to be poolside at the lodge no later than 2:00 daily.

Anyone there now able to say if there are long waits the first two hours the park is open?

Can't wait to be at the lodge. Looking forward to a dinner at Artist Point on Saturday. Just need to get through one more week in Michigan...

This week shouldn't be a good indication of what next week will be like. This week is the heart of spring break. The crowd size estimating sites have this week at an 8-9, while next week is a 6-7. That should help a lot. Anyway, I believe that if you want to have a good time, you will. If you are looking for a reason to complain, you'll always find one. Positivity always wins.

I like your strategy. We have a couple evenings scheduled at the parks but we do have a lot of free time scheduled for sitting in the hot tub at the quiet pool. We LOVE the quiet pool area. If you see me in the hot tub and I am snoring, please wake me.

Stay calm until next week, then the fun and relaxation begins for you.

We were just at WDW from Mar 19th to 26th. We were able to walk on many of the rides within the first two hours of park opening. The only ones you really have to worry about are TSMM at HS, Peter Pan at MK, and Soarin' and Test Track at Epcot at rope drop. They still get crowded fast. But if you have a good strategy, you can get a lot of rides done. :) We were back at the resort in the early afternoons on our trip. :)

Well it is finally here! We check in tomorrow for our first stay at VWL. The kids and I are so excited. Just sorry DH can't go with us. He has to work.

I guess I should get to bed since our flight leaves at 7AM in the morning. Luckily, we only live 5 minutes from the airport.

We were in room 5055, a courtyard view room that is very close to the lobby, and it was just about midpoint between the lobby elevator and the elevator near Roaring Forks. It was very convenient to either get to the bus via the lobby elevator or to the boat using the other elevator. You will not be far from an elevator in a north side lobby room. That section of the resort is not very big, and everything is fairly close together.

We returned from our WL stay a week ago. I want to thank Kook again for this thread, because it was quite helpful.

We stayed in 2119, lobby level, courtyard view, at the very end of the hallway. We had a ground level patio that I loved because the creek ran right in front of our room, and we felt we had a little more privacy because the pine trees blocked us from the view of passersby on the sidewalk down to the pool area. Our room was clean and everything worked as it should. I loved our location. :thumbsup2

The grounds were absolutely beautiful, and I love the beach and the views of the lake it provides. It's a perfect spot to watch the EWP every night. The pool area is WAY bigger than the pictures make it look like. I was concerned that the pool looked too small for the resort size, but I was very pleasantly surprised. The only part of the resort I found too small was Roaring Forks, but that tends to be my complaint with all resort counter service. Not only was it small, but there were absolutely not enough CM's working to handle the crowd. It was a 30 minute wait for our food every time we ate there, unless we were very early for breakfast. If you are in a hurry in the morning and still want a hot meal, go for the waffle line. The eggs line always was a long wait. Similar for lunch and dinner, go for the sandwich and salad line, the grill line was seriously 30-45 minutes.

Bus service was adequate, and in line with other resorts we've stayed at. We took the boat to the MK every time, just because the weather was sublime and I very much enjoyed the ride. By the end of the week we were extremely fed up with the busses, but honestly, we get that way no matter where we stay. Every time, by day 3, I find myself really wishing we had a car so that I could get from point A to point B in 10-15 minutes, rather than 30. Downtown Disney/Typhoon Lagoon is a huge pain in the rear end. Not enough busses and too many stops. We, and several other people, experienced problems first thing in the morning trying to make it to 8am dining reservations and ended up taking cabs to both EP and the AK. To be absolutely fair, I think all busses were having issues the EP morning. The CM was out on the radio with dispatch and we were listening to the conversations back and forth.

We thought everything about the WL was beautiful and really, really enjoyed our stay there, we'd absolutely stay there again and would recommend it to anyone. The Poly is still our home base, but with all of the construction hoopla going on, if we decided to stay on Disney property again in the next two years the WL is absolutely our 2nd home. :thumbsup2

We leave tomorrow for our first stay at WL CL for one night and then we move to AKL CL for the remaining days of our trip!!

so excited :)
How was your stay? How would you compare it with AKL-CL?

Though I've never done it, I don't see why it wouldn't be possible. Even though you're initially connected to a Call Center that isn't located at WL, you might want to call WL and ask about ordering meals to-go from WCC. For AP, I'm assuming that available items would be limited to what is available at TL.

Does anyone know if we can get the cobbler from TL to go? Thought we might take it up to our room on a night or two!! ;)

You should be able to, but again, I've never personally asked for it to-go.

Some mornings, my DD will put Geir Ness perfume on and it brings such a smile to my face and we're immediately transported to Norway…which reminds me that we need to buy more in June:goodvibes

The North Wing isn't far from the mid-Lodge elevator and there is an elevator in the North Wing that opens up right across from the laundry room and right next to Roaring Fork.

Be prepared to be in awe each time you walk into WL. I still stop to pause and take it all in each vacation:love:. I'll log your dates and enjoy the planning - that's half the fun.

Your trip is coming up so soon! What a great retirement celebration you're going to have. Do you think you'll book a bounceback?:stir:

We used FP+ over Christmas and it was wonderful. We didn't notice any line length difference Vs. paper FP. However, at that time, only resort guests were using FP+. Now or soon, AP and off-property guests can/will make FP+ reservations 30 days prior to arrival. Resort guests still get to make them at 60 days out, but the addition of both AP and off-property guests will inevitably make lines longer.

I hope your travels went smoothly and you're enjoying VWL. Does it appear that the villa rehab is all done?

Thank you for posting your TR! I agree with your RF and Epcot bus comments. They really need to install ordering kiosks at RF and they also need to dispatch Epcot buses more often. We've frequently waited much more than 20 minutes for an Epcot bus. The parks dispatch their own buses, but that will soon be changing, I think. I thought I read this year that Resorts and Transportation are merging so maybe Resort Ops will soon be in charge of bus dispatch:confused3

Checked in on Tuesday and having a great time! We have a standard view on 6th floor. Yes, it's a view of the service parking lot if we look down, however there is a perfect unobstructed view of the fireworks! We sit on our balcony and watch every night. So fantastic!
