I'm on ground floor in the north wing in a deluxe room. The room itself is great, and I like the location. I do think the patio is very small for a suite this size. However, we have been using lounge for hanging out.

Good morning,

I've never stayed in a ground floor room. In our deluxe room we had two balconies. One was regular size and the one off the bedroom was more for a one person standing.

Do you have two patio openings or one. Just being curious.

So glad you are having a good time.

I agree that the prospect of having the main pool go down this fall is a major bummer. But it is currently still a rumor. I've called resort reservations and others have called various resort representatives and so far nothing is scheduled.

For what's it's worth - the quiet pool is awesome. It is nice and shady over there and the pool has three bubbling springs which are fun to float in. I love that pool. And there is a hot tub over there, too.

Saw this announcement and wondered what everyone thinks...

Guests at Port Orleans Resorts may skip check-in

According to the Port Orleans News and Rumors site, the resorts will be testing a new option for guests checking in between June 16 and June 28. The test will allow guests to completely skip the front desk and go straight to their room instead. Before their arrival, guests will receive a text message or email letting them know the room assignment and they can then use their MagicBands to unlock the hotel room door. For guests to be eligible for the test, they must be using My Disney Experience and have their profile completed, as well as have received their MagicBands in the mail, have done Online Check-In, set up an account PIN number and paid their balance in full. Once Online Check-In is complete, the MagicBands are active and can be used for park tickets, FastPasses, dining plan credits, etc.

This is not a mandatory test, so anyone who needs help upon check-in can just go to the front desk and check in like normal. Other resorts may be participating in the test as well. Because this is just a test, it will not necessarily continue into a full launch property-wide.

That's interesting. Might be a good thing. You would know if your requests were met then. :)

The DVC and quiet pool are the same pool. WL guests may use the VWL pool anytime, however, pool hopping to/from WL-FW is not permitted.

oh I had no idea you can't hop over there...with a major pool being out, that doesn't entirely seem fair does it? well, at least there is the other one.

We have enjoyed the quiet pool. It isn't large but the steps are perfect for my littlest and it is peaceful over there. I can say at this moment I wouldn't miss the main pool on this trip. While the kids have liked the slide, I don't like the pool game time. Maybe I am a weirdo but I think it's too loud.

I hate pool game time too! lol But my kids LOVE it! At least it keeps them occupied for a few minutes. :lmao:

The pool will not be closed at WL for refreshments in Septmeber or anytime in 2014, according to the CM I spoke to a few moments ago. She said this is a rumor. Hope that clears it up for some of us.

Is a major pool refurbishment something they would need permits for? If so, any of the people who keep watch on the permits issued for any construction projects at WDW would know as soon as they are issued. I personally don't keep up with them, but I have seen posts relating to this.

My friend who arrived today (hstrickland) has confirmed with a reliable source the following:

"The (pool) rehab will take place AFTER Labor Day when the crowds are lower however some plans are still tentative."

This information correlates with the information that TheLodgeLady provided. Heather will ask later about specific details of the rehab and try to get an estimate of completion. Thank you, Heather!

Yes, it's a permitted activity and thank you for mentioning it. This is how I confirmed the WL room rehab that was never officially announced and the BWI room rehab that started last month had filed permits last year. I'll see what I can find.

I couldn't find any pool-related permits filed with the Comptroller. These were the only active permits I found:

~Main Transportation Dock Shelter Pilasters

~Cooling Towers - Electrical

This cryptically titled permit involves WDImagineering and is entitled "Wilderness Lodge Take Me Fishing". I would love to know more about this.

An expiration date isn't listed, so it's hard to tell when the work might start/end. Without an expiration, the permit is valid a year from recording, which would be 1/10/15.

:worship:TheLodgeLady, Wilderness Lodge's Number One Lady Detective, found a pool permit for WL! It was on page 4/6 of all the resorts' pool permits listed under the heading of VARIOUS rather than WILDERNESS LODGE, so I completely missed it. It was filed in December and approved 1/2/14 so it would expire 1/2/15. The work, "MAIN POOL AND DECK AREA," would need to be completed by then or the permit re-filed.

So with this info, now I'm seriously considering switching resorts. My dates were Aug 31-Sep 6. Was looking forward to out first WL visit. Now I guess we'll be switching resorts :( what a bummer for my bday/no kids trip with the hubby.

We are scheduled to arrive on halloween, if pool is down then we will have to consider switching, huge bummer:(

I TOTALLY agree with this! When we are deciding on a resort for each of our trips, we are a family that hugely factors in the pool area of the resort. Being told last minute that the pool was non-functioning would completely change our trip. If this rehab is a maintenance (as opposed to an emergency) it should be very possible for them to plan in advance so people know what they are getting in to when they book or at a minimum have time to rearrange plans (different travel dates or different resort).

Not to mention the extra that I'm paying for a courtyard view to overlook construction??? I'm livid.

I'll be at VWL December 1-7, so maybe/maybe not under construction. If the pool is closed, is the pool bar also closed?

I am in the same boat, about to call and switch resorts. Was really looking forward to staying here too. :(
