(CLOSED) Disney's WILDERNESS LODGE and VILLAS INFORMATION THREAD ~11/13 - 6/14~

I can't multi-quote right now, but I have a friend who is checking-in tomorrow who has agreed to get more information for us about the pool closure. It may be no different from what TheLodgeLady has so graciously posted or she might be told more or less. It seems a closure date hasn't been determined, so after Labor Day may be a guess this far in advance. I will post as soon as I have any news and I will also post an update after I check-in 6/25.

In the meantime, remain calm! Rehabs have to happen periodically to make improvements and the VWL pool is wonderful - it has jets;)

You are a good lady!! :worship:

Crab rangoons and beef stew tonight! Both were awesome. Also a chef salad that was delicious. Another great day. Boats were slow this morning (I tried the MK boat since that's where we were headed. They are doing construction on dock as well. We should have taken the contemporary boat. Even being at the dock at 8 am, we missed the opening show. It didn't matter, as we were headed for Frontierland.

Sounds great!!!!! :) hope you're having a great time!

So if this is true there is another pool at wl? That is just smaller? No slide/kid area? When this happens does that mean u are allowed to / bus take you to another resort for there pool?

I just called the resort and reservations and both places stated that there is nothing to indicate the pool would be closed this year in the fall. they both checked multiple sources.
The process of making a rehab public is arduous and probably involves lawyers and signed non-disclosure agreements:rolleyes:. Most won't or can't disclose much until a firm date has been established. For example, when asked about the last WL room rehab, they were in denial until it actually started and even then, Disney sources outside of WL, such as the Call Center, never were officially told about the rehab so they couldn't confirm it. These rehabs are ever-evolving with WDW, so stay tuned.

:welcome: to the thread and the DIS!

VWL has a lovely jetted pool and hot tub, (but no slide, it's a "quiet pool" as they call the non-feature pools). See THIS POST for photos. Normally, within the MK Resorts, you can't use another pool. For example, it was speculated that with the closure of the Nanea Volcano pool at Poly from July - 2015, guests would be able to use the GF pool, but instead, they are allowing guests one free day at a water park. I doubt that WL would offer this and the pool may not even be closed for very long, if at all.

It is a huge bummer to deal with a closed pool, especially one as beautiful as this, but...there is still the DVC pool onsite, and the quiet pool, and (yes you'd have to double check the rules or ahem do what you feel is ok..) but the pool at FW is awesome, great spacious seating, awesome slide and great snack bar.

The DVC and quiet pool are the same pool. WL guests may use the VWL pool anytime, however, pool hopping to/from WL-FW is not permitted.

We have enjoyed the quiet pool. It isn't large but the steps are perfect for my littlest and it is peaceful over there. I can say at this moment I wouldn't miss the main pool on this trip. While the kids have liked the slide, I don't like the pool game time. Maybe I am a weirdo but I think it's too loud.

I really hope for the closed for not that long or not at all. Lol.
This is our first family trip to wdw. And we upgraded when free dining came out to wl. My two oldest kids love swimming!!

Yum CL sounds great at WL : ) How are you liking your room location or view ect?

So, I have been lurking for some time now, but it's time for me to speak up.

My family (me, DW36, DS6, and DS4) have a trip planned for Sept. 28 - Oct. 10. I originally booked a room at our resort of choice from 2012, POR. But on the day FD hit, I was in trial and my wife and our AAA travel agent were left to make changes after POR was left off of FD. They booked a Woods, bunk bed room at WL.

I will say that it has taken a bit to get used to the idea of WL for me, but I had just come around within the past couple of days. Now it looks like the main pool will be closed. With 2 boys like mine, this is a deal breaker for me. Kook, LodgeLady, Wood Nymph - thank you for all you do on this board to help folks with their trips. I, for one, am much obliged. I'm sure I will make a few calls myself, but I have to admit that I am pretty frazzled right now. CSR is booked solid for that time period due to a major IT convention. The other deluxes either exceed our budget or have refurb problems of their own. Ugh. Just so disappointing. While my boys have a great time at WDW, this is the kind of thing that makes me appreciate our normal vacations to Hilton Head...

Well put, as always. It is too bad that a firm date isn't available and published clearly, but that information may not be precisely known by anyone at this point. As the immediate reaction shows, people are pretty passionate about the subject of resort rehab projects and nobody wants their vacation to be adversely affected. Having top notch resorts requires maintenance though, and occasionally down time.

For us we wouldn't change based off a pool closure, but we can see why others would. I would sure want to know more before making a change though.

I agree with 2 boys a pool would be greatly missed but I think right now it's certain. Give a little more time and see how this plays out ... It most likely won't be an issue (( hoping )) hang in there it will work out : )

I'm on ground floor in the north wing in a deluxe room. The room itself is great, and I like the location. I do think the patio is very small for a suite this size. However, we have been using lounge for hanging out.

Our dates at WL are Sept. 1-7. Am I understanding that the main pool will be closed for refurbishment? :(((

We're staying at WL for our first time Sept 20-27. My boys will be upset if the pool is closed. They wanted a pool with a slide.

Well said, thank you. I always admire your wisdom :) We truly have some wonderful people of this thread.

I just spoke with a CM at WL. She is showing NO refurbishments to the main pool after Labor Day, or in 2014 for that matter.
