There was some kind of situation involving a medical team when we were at Disneyquest a few weeks ago a CM pointed my way to the stairs so yes, you can use them. I don't think they are clearly marked but they are to the right of the elevators as you walk in the doors.
If you are clausterphobic do not go on Mission Space. Once it starts I don't think you can get out, although they give you a ton of opportunities to change your mind in the staging areas.
