I just got the Spring brochure for the local Adult Ed school. They are charging people to attend a class to plan a Disney vacation. :rolleyes2

If it didn't actually cost money I would love to go and see how accurate the info is. They claim they can show ways to save money and get into hard to get places.

What's sad is the person planning that once in a lifetime trip will sign up and buy into everything that is "taught"

That's crazy! I would be interested to see if their info is accurate too. Too bad those who signed up (i.e. spent $$) to take the class didn't find the DIS first! This place is a wealth of info.....the good, the bad and the ugly!!!

Sounds like you're assuming the info is going to be a quick once over & the teacher might even be a travel agent.

What if the teacher is a fellow DISser, just looking to make a few disney $ on the side :confused3 Why not share the knowledge?

From what I've seen im my area, adult education classes don't charge that much. Even if this teacher gets 10 students at $75 a piece, half of that goes back into the program.... they'd make $375 on a 1099. That's for 4 weeks of two hour long classes.

Actually I went to one years ago at the Y with a friend who is also a Disney freak - we both were really knowledgeable but it was before the internet and we were seeking out our own kind I guess.

Anyway despite the fact we knew alot we also learned quite a bit - it was taught by a guy who had done the college program and worked there a few years and was going back to work - in fact he is still there in a much larger role than those days.

For his college program he had worked at the GF and he gave alot of good tips on rooms to request and lots of behind the scenes info that probably now due to the internet is commonplace (to us) but to a casual travel planner would be great.

I don't think its such a bad idea for the right person.

my 3 dd's go to a school with a trip planned for older kids. The senior class (small) is planning a trip to Disney for grad.. All year long so far they have had a bake sale each fri, Dress down day( private school and dress code) pay 1$. Pizza 150 per slice.
I have been shelling out$ left and right... Now all I do is bake sale 3$ for each and they bring back change and put in my Disney coin jar. I think the in house fundrasing is getting a bit much:idea: .. Although when my dd graduates I would love to gop and supervise.:goodvibes

I think this day in age for someone to spend money to find info that is readily available on the internet (and probably more current) is a shame, that is money that could pay for a Character meal for their family.

I have heard about others and experienced myself bad info come from travel agents. I am sure there are good ones, but the title travel agent doesn't make you knowledgable

I think it's a great idea. A Dis'er or regular Disney traveler would be a great "teacher".

Most adult classes charge a minimal fee and the people that take them are doing so to socialize with people who have similar interests. I'm assuming these are the community 0 credit courses.

I think it's great that there are people who want to actually get out and go to seminars, etc. rather than sit at home by themselves on their computers. I'd rather go to something like that for entertainment value than pay to watch a movie in a theater, etc. I've seen some cooking classes I've been interested in taking even though I could easily get the recipes over the internet. I'm pretty busy, so I haven't done it. But if I didn't have kids and was looking for ways to make more community connections, adult courses would definately be something I'd try.

I doubt there's anyone out there that thinks the only way to learn about Disney trips is by taking a class. Adult classes are not all about what you "learn".

there are still a great many people who are not comfortable surfing the net....and what would be the difference between this and signing up for plans or TGM?

I like this outlook, I think mine is jaded as I have tried Adult Ed in the past and what a waste, the instructor's were horrible.

Agreed. IMO, as I was able to co-ordinate a Disney vacation-with touring plans, I kid you not, at age 9, so really, I think it's pretty pathetic that people take this course.

I think it would be great both for the students and the teacher. Not eveyone wants to read "The Unofficial Guide" or spend months on the internet.

While i frequently give out the disboard address, most people i've asked later said it was too overwheming. Many people feel they should make the Disney once or twice for the kids. This class at least would keep them from making my DH's mistake of thinking that Universal was part of WDW!
