Hy hubby is very against the use of veal in any context and we're worried that veal might be used in the sauces accompanying their steaks. Does anyone know if this is the case?

Was just thinking of this and when reading through different menus I did notice the word "veal" describing some sauces...though maybe not there but at several other places. I'm not "against" it but to me it just doesn't seem right at all. I can't do it...nope. lol.

I'm sure you could e-mail Disney and express your concerns. It isn't that different from accommodating allergies, they will probably ask the chef and someone would get back to you. Good Luck, Citrico is great!

If he just doesn't want to eat the veal, ask when you arrive and if the sauce contains veal stock or anything like that, ask for either a substitution or a plain steak.

If he does not want to eat in the restaurant at all if it uses veal, I'm not sure how you find out before you get there.

Just as a side note, if he's against it in principal (not just that he doesn't wish to eat it) and does not wish to patronize places that use/serve it, you are also going to need to stay away from all Italian restaurants & WP.

Agreed.

With how often the restaurants change their menus, it would be best to simply ask when you get there. Disney is very accommodating to special requests.

Now, if you don't want to eat at ANY restaurant that serves it, it may be harder. Just because they don't serve it today doesn't mean it won't be there next week or when you are there.

They definitely use it in the "Filet of Beef", which is why we didn't order it. I don't recall it used in anything else, except the Veal shank, of course.
Blech! No can do veal.

Thanks for all the replies! I tried contacting Disney, but every time I filled out the email form, I got an error. Grr!

Before the potential veal-in-the-sauce even became an issue, my hubby looked over the menu and said "Are you joking? I'm supposed to find something on here. What is this stuff?" This, after he said a few nights earlier "Don't worry about it, I can find something to eat anywhere." He was joking (sorta), but now I'm feeling bad since we're already dining at Jiko ("that place with the weird food" :lmao:) and at California Grill ("that place with the fancy ingredients nobody understands"). Maybe I'll cut him a break on this one. His favorite restaurant is Fridays, so that kinda shows you the type of menu he likes.

He used to hate Indian food ("it looks like it's already been chewed") and he hates the idea of eating with his hands when I got him to take me out for Ethiopian (he got a fork and spoon). :rolleyes1

I am so NOT adventurous when it comes to food, but he makes me feel like Anthony Bordaine! :rotfl:

Now to do some more planning so I can make my man happy! I'm the Disney nut and the food at WDW really helped him start liking Disney in the first place, so it seems like the fair thing to do.

Funny you mentioned bourdain as his famous quote is something along the lines of life is not living without veal stock.

Interesting - I didn't know that about Anthony Bordaine.. guess than crosses me off the list! I'm not so okay with veal, either. But I'm a heck of a lot more adventurous than my husband. :thumbsup2

We're on DxDP, so Shula's is out and we're already going to Yachtsman.

I'm now leaning towards Liberty Tree Tavern because he's always wanting me to cook him a Thanksgiving meal.. even when it's not Thanksgiving. He got so excited one year when we bought two turkeys at Thanksgiving and I cooked twice for him. He acted like a little kid on Christmas morning. :goodvibes

I do not have any facts, but I would suspect that they make stocks from veal for dishes. If he is trying not to consume veal, he can tell them that he wants a meal free dish and he will get it. If he is trying to avoid supporting a veal-providing kitchen, Citricos is a place to avoid - their braised veal shank is tender, delicious, and very, very popular.

You can ask at the restaurant and the chef will be happy to let you know if they use veal.
