Okay.... convince me to go to Cirque :o

For the past few years, DH and I have been saying "we'll go", "we'll get there eventually". Truth be told, it just doesn't really appeal to us and we don't want to waste an evening. Should we give it a try and why??

Thanks!!

There are some people who really don't care for it after seeing it. I have never met one but I saw someone actually post that view. However, for most of us, the first time seeing it was a pleasant surprise. Before I went the first time, I thought OK, a cricus, no big deal; never really even cared for circuses much, but I will take the kids and give it a try.

Evaluation after that first trip to Cirque: best show in WDW, best show in Florida, best show in the Southeast US; best live show I can even remember seeing. This is not a circus, except the acts resemble one. It is more of a Broadway show, with music, songs, a little opera, dance, a story line, a lot of amazing circus type acts, elaborate special effects, and even the stage, which opens, grows, and shrinks is part of the act. In other words, it is likely it will appeal to you even though your sense is otherwise before going for the first time.

Calling Cirque de Soleil a circus is like calling "Titanic" a movie about a boat.

The acrobatics, choreographed movement, heart-stopping aerial feats, soaring music and playful sense of magic make this something altogether different.

It has a darker tinge to it, though -- parts of it are closer to Fellini than Disney -- but there is a beauty and awe to the whole thing that are stunning.

Some stunts -- I'm thinking in particular of one with a guy HIGH atop a HUGE stack of teetering chairs -- are almost terrifying. (They work without a net, from nose-bleed-inducing heights!) But they have to be seen to be believed.

Cirque is definitely something to see -- and, maybe, argue about after.

It's weird.... the characters and costumes are weird... the music is weird...

Having said that, it is also amazing - I especially liked the trampauline guys.. wow.

But still.... very, very weird.

You gotta see it at least once. It really is difficult to accurately describe it - although the one thing you can accurately say is that it is not a circus. It is closer to a Broadway show with acrobats. And it is absolutely amazing!

I don't think you'll find it a waste of an evening. It is an evening of entertainment that you really won't find anywhere else (other than Cirque in Vegas, i guess), and that is a big part of what you are looking for on a Disney vacation anyway. It is definitely worth giving it a try to see if you like it.
