ok, for years there has been an ongoing family disagreement about the color of Cinderellas True Dress Color from the original movie.

I say it is white - if you really watch the movie, the dress is white and only turns a shade of blue in the shadows of the movie. since the dawn of time i have wondered why all the merchandise has been blue and why Disney made it blue. granted, i now realize that they probably promote it as blue because if they promoted it as white it would look too much like a wedding gown.

At most family gatherings this debate arises :) I think my brother does it to try and get to me, but i believe that inside he knows its white :)

So, I am wondering what all of you think...

I can see why it could be white but, I think it's a sheer blue color. But definitely not a solid blue.

I'm pretty sure it's a light/sheer blue, with some white around it, but definitely blue.

Also, Disney Wiki is reliable, as far as I know. I do Disney trivia posts for a entertainment/gossip site and Disney Wiki is where I get a lot of my info from. I compared the info from Disney Wiki to official Disney sites, imdb, and here on the Dis and it all matches.

then i am right! lol

I belive it is a very light blue. The Disney has made it a slightly richer shade so that it looks better in the sunlight.

pixiedust: Don't forget it is a magical dress and actually could be any color!

Could you post a photo of it when it's white? If I go by your avatar, then it's definitely light blue.

Also, when I clicked on your Disneywiki, the site said there was no text for that entry.

I've always thought it was a silvery white...not a bright white. But look how wrong they get her hair too...in the movie she looks like a strawberry blonde yet the characters and all modern merchandise shows her with bright yellow hair.

if you click on characters > cinderella and then scroll to physical appearance you will find :

Cinderella is a beautiful young woman. She is tall, slender and softly shaped with a mild face. She has fair skin, pink lips and twinkling blue eyes. Her hair is burnt orange and shoulder-length with soft bangs.
Before her Fairy Godmother, she was often seen in a maid's outfit. She wore a dark brown shirt with blue sleeves and a skirt with a lighter shade of brown. Her hair was tied together in a large blue bow. She also wore matching shoes. In her princess gown, she wore a sparkling white dress with white glass slippers. Her hair was put into a bun with a black band over it. In publicity material, her dress is blue in contrast to white while her slippers has also changed to blue.

(my avatar is not from a pic of the orig movie, but thank you, i am going to change it to white :) )

to also further add (disagree/argue) her original hair was burnt orange, not blonde or gold.

OK, I've had this debte a few dozen times. I've had this same debate on what color the sleeves are on Snow White's rags dress. Here's what I have found. And yes, I did watch each film in slow motion going forward and reverse many times.......

It varies by scene. Sometimes Cindy's gown looks all blue. Sometimes it looks like it has white peplums and sleeves. It depends on the lighting in a given scene. Same issue with Snow White's rags. It varies by scene with the lighting.

I come down officially on the side of Cindy's gown being a light to medium blue with the peplums and sleeves in a very pale, almost white........ shade of blue.

Here's an even more critical question....... how did the Disney parks Cindy end up in all one shade of blue (most of the time)?

interesting, i will have to check out snow white's ensemble!

i think that the times that cindys dress looks blue is when she is in a shaded or dark area in the movie and instead of making it more gray, they went with blue.

any debates on what color the prince's top is? i have seen it white, off white and light blue, lol

honestly, whenever i look at that new dress, to me it looks like she did a scarlett o'hara and made it out of drapes.

LOL! Maybe they could add some tassles or cording ortiebacks or something. I just wish they'd mix it up a bit with some new versions of the Princess costumes. They've been pretty much the same since we started going in 2004.

I've done a lot of versions through the years. I know this one is too blue, but it's my favorite:
