I always thought it was a light silver-y blue. I think the color of her eyes is an important factor.

Yep. I've seen white fabric that appears blue in moonlight and blue fabric that looks white in bright sunlight.

So I agree. Everyone is right.

Only the blues are slightly more right. ;)

If you go to HomeDepot or any other similar store and check paints, there are so many shades of white just like of black. Anyway, I would consider a true color to be the one in a day light or natural light and therefore I would say her dress is white or one of those "blue" whites from HomeDepot.

You know what I've always wondered? Why are her earrings attached to her headband ... ?

I have to throw in my two cents - I agree with you, it's a silvery-white in the movie, not blue. And the FG never says she's making the dress the same color as Cinderella's eyes, just that she's taking her eye color into account when making the dress. A silvery-white would go nicely with blue eyes :)

Silver. It's almost like it's made of glass and looks very reflective - I've always thought it was silver.

Speaking of paint colors - my husband worked for Sherwin Williams for 17+ years and mixed paint every day. He says the dress is blue ;)

because technically the fairy godmother does not say that she is making the dress the same color as her eyes... she implies to make the dress color to compliment her eyes.

EXACTLY what I was going to say! Trust me, I have two young daughters and it's playing in our house quite often. And the shade of white is admittedly more of an ice white (with blue undertones) versus chalk or beach. But I agree that it's more white than blue. I think Disney marketing decided to enhance the blue once they started developing other princesses so they could have a separate color for each and ramp up the merchandising.

On a side note, I personally have always wondered why colloquially she's referred to as "Cindy" when it should be "Ella." :)

I would also take that official answer to mean that the dress IS white. Whatever color something appears in natural daylight is what I'd consider the "true" color. Of course the FG does say she's taking her eye color into account ... she was designing the dress for Cinderella's "season". It is surely an icy, bluish white. A yellowish white would have clashed horribly with her strawberry blonde hair. ;)

And why would you wear clear shoes with a blue dress? A silver or white dress, yes ... but if I was a FG I would conjure up some BLUE shoes to match a blue dress.

I also wonder about the "Cindy" thing. If I had been forced to work as a maid for years, and had "Cinder" added to my name because I was always dirty, you can bet I would insist that my princely new husband call me Ella! :lmao:

Of course, in my experience, Cindy's true dress color was white. At least it was in my first encounter with the story....... the Leslie Ann Warren Rogers & Hammerstein TV version. I guess it's possible my take on it was influenced by the fact that the show was in black and white.....

I LOVE this debate! I argued with my Mother-in-law last Halloween about this. I thought white/silver as well. Of course we went with blue because if you put a little girl in white at Halloween - everyone thinks she is a bride.

well, they say the dress is white. even tho it looks blue in the shadows, the dress is still white. shall we discuss prince charming's top? it too is blue in the shadows, i have always thought it to be white as well, but now you see it as an ivory, white, and blue.

lol, this is fun! :rotfl:
