Cinderella's Royal Table NIGHTMARE!

OP...I just wanted to comment that I understand your frustration with the lack of communication between the staff re: your DD birthday surprise. When you pay that sort of money for a meal, the expectation is you'll have an exceptional experience.

I guess in hindsight you may have asked more pointed questions of the server but it seems like you had the miraculous "disappearing" server!

FWIW, I'm underwhelmed with the CRT. Our servers have been overworked, absent and rushed especially during our last attempt 2 years ago.

We were feeling incredibly embarrased and even guilty. We know that it's such a coveted reservation, and there are a lot of people who would love to eat there, but just can't get a reservation... and we feel as though the experience was partly ruined for the other people who were sitting near us. I can still hear people screaming out "ewwww" as my son started to vomit, and I felt bad that we may have ruined their meal.

I also feel bad for my son. He keeps talking about how he was sick on his sister's Birthday. He was sick a few more times during our vacation, but we decided to eat a lot of CS meals in our resort and in our room most evenings - if he started to feel sick, he was able to quickly run to the restroom. And I'm kind of happy that I cancelled all other character meals before we left and changed from the DDP to QSDP - the only TS meal that we kept was CRT, so we didn't have any other repeats in other restaurants, thankfully! - well, with the exception of Pizzafari, but we sat near the restroom ;)

I guess it overwhelmed my then 2.5 year old and he projectile vomited all over the people in front of us. I was soooo embarrassed. My mom (who was with us) ran and got a CM who was so wonderful to us and everyone around us. We were also descended upon by a cleaning crew. then the CM took all the *affected* people out to a shop and comped us all shirts and "stuff" so that we didn't have to walk around, ride home in mess covered clothing. Sooooo nice! She went way above and beyond and really did make a very unmagical moment a bit more magical.

 OMG :scared1:

Did you offer anything to the people who were... 'affected'? How did they handle it?

We;ve been blessed with all 3 of our daughters, what puking episodes there were, were rarely in public and well contained.

I'd be hard pressed to keep it together if I and my family were projectile vomited on by a 2.5 year old. Vomit is the one thing I simply cannot stand. It's the smell.

I know why wife would have most likely lost it in such a situation.

I hope you don't think I was meaning you didn't take care of your child, because that is not what I meant at all. I was saying I was sure your focus was on your child, so that you didn't hang around and watch how the mess was cleaned up.

I'm sorry you had such a bad experience at CRT. We had more than one meal there, and had really great experiences. I hope you give it another chance. After all, what else could go wrong, right? You are sure to have a great time if you try again!

Thanks. I re-read it and realized that I misunderstood what you wrote, but I forgot to come back and edit my response, so I'm just seeing this now. I now know what you meant. :goodvibes

and yeah, what's the worst that could happen next time, right?? :) My kids are desperate to go back to WDW so I might give it another try...

In all of my years going to disney, I have never...ever, seen or heard of a cast member just shruging off a child throwing up and having the adult guests clean it up.

This story sounds more like someone was upset and had a bad experience at CRT and decided to embelish part of the story to make others sympathetic

Are you for real? Give me a break! Get a hobby.

Bit harsh....

She should have expected them to clean up the area with the vomit situation! Everyone should expect this in a restaurant!

Also, it does happen regularly were under 3 years get complementary food and if the OP would have asked, she wouldn't have been charged. They don't get the exact kids meals, but are offered a couple different options. When my 3 1/2 year old was younger she was offered a couple different options for dinner at CRT.

I would have cleaned up every last bit of my child's vomit so all they had to do was going over it to sanitize the table/floor. I would NOT leave vomit there for the waiters to clean up as I don't feel that is their job. And I'm not saying the OP did this. I just know how embarrassed I would be if my child did this and would want to clean up the mess myself.

I wouldn\t be going back there unless it was really important to my kids , there are so many other character meals on property to choose from , that aren't 2 credits , Cape May is such a wonderful , sunny atmosphere with wonderful character interaction , it is much more laid back .

True - there are a lot of other ones we'd like to try! I thought of Cape May, and I may have even had an ADR at one time or another, before deciding to just do one character meal (and I changed from the DDP to the QSDP a few days before our 45-day mark) CRT won, because it was my DD's Birthday and because even my son LOVES watching princess movies with his sister and wanted to eat in a castle. edit to add: we also decided at the last minute to do only 1 character meal, instead of the many that I had planned, because we didn't know how our 1-year old would react to the characters, so we stuck to meet & greets in the parks, and we figured that a meal with face characters might be easier for him... hence why we only did CRT

Next on our list HAS to be Crystal Palace though, because my son is OBSESSED with Winnie the Pooh. I slightly wish that I also kept our Crystal Palace ADR, because it would have been interesting to see what our experience was there. When we were in the UK in Epcot, he met Tigger and Eeyore and he interrogated them on the whereabouts of Pooh. He would say, "Tigger, where's my friend, Pooh? Why is he not here?" Of course, all they could do was shrug their shoulders, but it was much more acceptable and not rude at all this time

Yes- to answer this response. We apologized profusely to the people in front of us and the CM bought ALL affected people clothing. WDW staff was very accommodating. I don't know what I would have done if someone "lost it" on me or my kid b/c of an unfortunate incident where my then 2.5 year old son gave no more warning than saying, "I feel sick," and then immediatley vomiting as he said the words. No forewarning at all. There really wasn't anything I or anyone else could have done to prevent it or make it up to the people in front of us other than get help and get it cleaned up.

Anyone with kids, especially toddlers, knows sometimes "stuff happens." I was embarrassed, humiliated, apologetic, and we ran him the heck out of there and up to the bathroom and to get a CM as fast as we could-- yes. Wasn't much more I could have done. One time my brother (who was a teen at the time) was vomited on by a kid on an airplane-- not a kid he knew. The kid leaned over the seat and vomited on him. Was it gross, yes, was there not much that could be done other than apologize and have the airline staff clean it up, yes. Not sure much else can be done, as Forrest Gump says- **** happens! What else was I to do- start handing them $100 bills?

The CM's were wonderful, as I said before. I am not sure what, other than new comped clothes, the affected guests also received. We were offered VIP seats to the next evenings Fantasmic performance (which we declined), I am guessing the affected guests were offered the same, if not more than we were. Who knows the other guests could have gotten FP's and free meals, etc. etc. etc. I was just grateful no one "lost it" on us for something we had no way to anticipate or predict would happen.

When you say ”lost it” do you mean get angry, cursing & shouting kind of lost it? Or ”lost it” like she vomits at the sight of vomit lost it?

If you mean the latter, i completely understand. My SIL works in an OR and deals with blood and guts all day long but she cant ”do” vomit. Just the sound of someone throwing up will send her rushing to the bathroom herself.

Which is why we sought help, because the baby wipes that we had on us were barely substantial to clean up the mess. The CM that my husband tried to speak to was not a server. According to my husband, he appeared to look a bit more managerial, if that makes any sense, but he was definitely not serving or waiting tables - we did not expect him to actually clean it up, but instead of shrugging us off and and looking away, we hoped he would have at least alerted someone (with something) to help us out. At the time we weren't thinking about getting someone to clean it up FOR us - we were more concerned about being ABLE to clean it up, period. (at least that is what my husband hoped to do, while I ran off with my son to clean him up and to make sure that he was okay) And I think that is part of the reason why we were so upset - we wanted to do what we thought was the right thing. I spoke to my husband last night and he said that his conversation with the CM wasn't "Hey, come and help us clean up my son's vomit." It was "We need help. My son is throwing up and we don't know what to do."

And I'm so sorry to hear of your experience, as well. How truly awful!! :( But I am completely impressed with the help you received - what amazing CMs!!!

sorry that what was suppossed to be a magical time turned ugly. I know how expensive those character breakfasts are especially in the crt.

Trust me, 15 years from now the whole family will be retelling this story over and over again with laughter....It is what makes family memories.:love:

the good and the bad...

Hope the rest of your vacation was special.

LOL! It is absolute family folklore that my daughter just missed puking on Minnie at a character meal at Disneyland when she was 4! It has gone down in the annals of our Disney history.......

LOl,

Yes, vomited. She would have been extremely upset as well. She isn't the kind of person to start cursing however.

With three children of our own, we certainly understand things happen. On the other side, we are not so understanding as to just blow it off either, under every circumstance.

Nothing ruins a persons day like vomit all over them, new clothes or not, it's going to take a significant amount of time to get cleaned and changed.

Does anyone know if there are showers at the parks for use in this sort of situation?

I know personally I would want compensation if someone, no matter how unintentional, ruined several hours of my day. The clothing would be ruined as well unless laundered somewhat promptly, more time wasted or expenses. I would guess Disney probably offered them a free laundry service :confused3

Time is precious commodity, let alone vacation time.

It's not something to get yelling mad about, accidents happen. It is something that requires proper compensation to be made "whole". A few tshirts and maybe laundry service from an unresponsible party isn't going to cut it for some people, no matter how understanding that 'accidents happen'.

It's like someone crashing into you car, sure it was an accident... doesn't mean you aren't responsible.

In any event, anyone who would scream at a genuinely sick child who had an accident is a lunatic.

I feel since it is WDW and the majorityis kids a good waiter would have asked if youd like a little something for the baby! Maybe the slipper thing is a simple mistake but its still a big dissapointment when its planned in advanced..

<snip> So I gave my husband the gift card, left him to clean up the mess as best he could, and took my boy to the restroom to change his clothes and to clean him up.

When I met up with my husband again I looked at the receipt and thought we were charged much more than we were meant to be charged. My husband then told me that he left a $10 tip. I was like "What??" I explained to him that 18% gratuity was already part of the bill. then...

I'm a little confused - how were you paying for your meal after the meal? I mean I know with a gift card, but... I have CRT breakfast for next weekend, and they charged my credit card the full amount PLUS gratuity the day I made the ADR. How did you get it so you did not have to pay until after your meal? I am confused because I asked about that (so I could use gift cards) but was told no... :confused3

It is entirely possible to pay for CRT after eating. If you book with a dining plan, it's just a credit card hold. Once you get there, you can decide to either use 2 TS credits/person to pay ........ or just pay the bill. Either way though, the gratuity is included.

exactly this, and in our case, I booked with the DDP, but had a last minute change of mind about doing the DDP and changed to the QSDP, since we didn't want many table service meals (and I canceled all of my ADRs except for this one)

I was told that since they had my credit card on hold, that we could just pay during the meal. So for us, it worked no differently than being on the DDP and telling them that I wanted to pay the bill there instead of using credits.

This entitlement amazes me. Sh*t happens. In this case, puke happens. Who would be there to compensate you if a child vomited on you on vacation in the Bahamas? That's life sometimes, accidents happen! The way this poster and Disney handled the Fantasmic issue was beautiful. Gratitude.

Thank you everyone for all of your comments - it's been interesting and I learned a lot about myself i.e. how I need to learn to be more assertive.

I did contact Disney to make them aware of the situation, and I did not ask for any form of compensation, however, they did offer me a very generous dining credit to use on a future trip. They said that the treatment we received from the CM after my son was ill was not acceptable and not up Disney standards. I'm not 100% sure if we'll decide to return to CRT, but we might chose a different character dining experience.
