Christmas Cruising 2005

I'm looking into staying at the Portofino Inn and Suites...

The price is right and the location is good...I got a quote for May 27 to the 31st averaging $139 a night.

I am also looking at the Oyster Point Residence Inn for San Fran. We can get a one bedroom suite for $463 for the 24th to the 27th...

I found airfare on airtran for about $170 each way per person ($680 total.) Should I wait for Southwest schedule to come out in two weeks?

questions?

comments?

advice?

I have not read the city pass info to see if it only applies to CA residence. Right now DL is advertising alot of pay the kids price for everyone. I'll look at those tickets too and see if they are any cheaper, if you need to buy them local I can get them for you of course. Never have I had my id looked at for residency requirements on any tickets....

I'll look at portofino when we are down there and give you the offical comment, I can not think of where it is, I can look and let you know if it's walkable or not. Last time we went we stayed at the Hilton and took the shuttle, it was *different* as we've always been able to walk to park in the past. (even if we stay off property)

No clue on Oyster point.... Again I'll look it up and advise.

Who is AirTran? Never heard of them. Might be a charter? Of course you know the risk of that. Southwest you know what you are getting. What airport again?

posting so I don't lose the above...more later

We're going to Disney World!!!

Just got off the phone with Member Services - booked 3 studios for December 21st. We're going through December 30th. The inlaws will stay until December 27th. Making reservations day-by-day.

Bring on the crowds!!!

grim pirate:

How exciting! Piper's first time, I know you'll take tons of pictures! And who cares about the crowds, you're going to WDW! Great news. But where's your dancing guy? That's your trademark happy dance guy! LOL

AirTran is a local carrier...I think it's Frontier in your neck-o-the woods...

I think I'll hold out the next two weeks and wait and see what Southwest offers...

The citypass deal sounds best for us cause it includes all the parks we want to hit (3 days DL, 1 day Uni, 1 day sea world and one day zoo) for only $235...

I read the hotel pages for those two and on the surface they look awesome...as with the airfare, I won't be booking tomorrow so any research you can do for me would be mucho appreciated...

The Portofino Inn is nice - but it is not close to Disneyland. Well, it's close, but you can't walk to the front gate from there. You'll have to take the shuttle. I would stay at either the Best Western Park Place Inn , or the Carousel Inn.

Both of these are right across from the main entrance (and actually closer to the main entrance than the Disneyland and Paradise Pier Hotels). It's about 30 seconds farther to walk to these hotels than it is to walk to the shuttles.

What are your dates again (edited: May 27th - 31st from the post I just quoted...duh)? Guess I have to make some DL reservations too!

grim pirate:

Thanx John!

Have you stayed at these two hotels?

Where do you you think you'll book for this trip?

The Best Western looks like a great deal~

I have not. 2 trips ago, we stayed at the Howard Johnson, which is on the same street as those 2, but farther down. Everytime we'd walk past them on the way to the HoJo we'd say "If we were staying there, we'd be home by now..."
They both get good reviews (see the DIS Disneyland boards).

We had the Best Western booked for our last trip, but changed to the Grand Californian (sweet, but $$$).

We'll probably stay at the Best Western.

grim pirate:

Cool!

I'll fill Rose in on the Best Western and get her final say...she, as of our last conversation, was still trying to find availability at her Time Share resort for the Anaheim leg of this trip.

The price is definitely right :)

as an aside we have stayed at the "flea bag" right accross the street, the Park Vue Inn. Their rates are really cheap (we've paid between $39-79 per night) and the rooms have been clean. Not pretty, but clean. So depending on what your threshold is...we might even stay there ourselves on this trip if we take the kids out of school for a day (okay I can just hear it....you'd take them out for 2 weeks to go to Panama, but not a day for dear old friends....):lmao:

John thanks for the recon on the other hotels, sorry I'm so clueless....

N

That's exactly the reaction...sort of...I just got from Brittany!

She wants to know why no Wil or Molly for her? I think our company is worthy, don'chu?

I don't do Flea Bag and neither should you~why don'chall just stay wit us?

Britt thinks it's cool that John, Dede and Piper could be at the same place as us :teeth:

ok before Panama I NEVER thought of ever taking my kids out of school. So now that the taboo has been broken, what the heck...(okay I said the other word, but new this was a family board)...I'm still having a problem with the 2 weeks, yes I am, believe it or not.

Paul agreed we could take them out in May (he too had NEVER thought of taking them out of school prior to Panama) ok, so school has been pissing us off lately, can ya tell....issues, but I digress.....

I'll look at what I can get at Dland and let ya know, most likely we'd stay at the same place as you guys too....

more later,

N

p.s. do you all remember the story of how I planned a 17 day vaca to WDW and Cruise without missing school???? Oh yes, that was my son Wilson puking on the plane from Orlando-Vegas-San Jose....he was at school the next day popcorn:: that I'm sure you all wanted a visual on....

Wait a minute! You're ALL going to DL in May??

Ma'am, yes ma'am!

I thought you knew this?!

Rose, Stefanie, Brittany and Me are going to be in California from May 24th to June 4th. May 27th to the 31st is when we are planning on meeting up with The Grimgrinnin's and Skjerven's in Disneyland...

the first leg my group will be in San Fran/San Jose area and the last leg we will be in San Diego.

You gonna come out with us?

Yayyyyyy!

I knew you'd change your mind ;)

:woohoo:

:grouphug:

but....the kids can't miss the entire week. They can join for a few days. If you are planning on 5/27 sunday thru 5/31 thursday in la are you doing Dland sun, mon tues? if that's the case they will really only miss the one day on tues, we'd go home that afternoon/early evening. the rest of the stuff is fun, but we've really been there done that...so....what are your thoughts on days where?

Grim you too? what dates/days are you guys coming. I'm sure Dede has school too.

Aisling, why don't you join us?

Lynn you too, just a jump over the pond and another day to adjust....

We are totally flexible on where for when...

We could totally do the parks sun, mon & tues and my crew could do the LA thing on wednesday.

I think Grim said Dede is done by then...

I just reserved our rooms! :woohoo:

Rose already reserved San Diego, I just got us the Best Western Grim recommended and the Oyster Point Courtyard Inn for San Fran...it's right on the water and looks cool, not to mention the price was right :)

This trip is finally starting to feel real~

Tigg: check your email, I think we need to talk on the Oyster Point location...or call me (& Paul he has more first hand info on this than me)

I'll look into the hotel for us in Dland now and return...

N

It might be that the Best Western is on par with the Park Vue Inn...(okay flea bag doesn't mean fleas ya know....just not luxury of AKL, or Grand CA) more stripped down basic hotel/motel/notell. :lmao:

But, I'm a joiner so I booked it too...$116 per night, sunday & monday nights for us, like I said we'd come home on Tuesday afternoon most likely.

here's hoping nothing in scouts comes up for that weekend huh?
