Christian Music Thread

Sad news everyone, after more than a decade the David Crowder Band is calling it quits.

I'm so glad you posted that - though so sorry to hear. I've got to tell myself he'll be making music forever. He's one of our families favorites.

I just went online to check the summer tour -he's playing in nj and nyc. I think I need to get right in there and get tix!!

TLHB70, I sadly understand all to well the kind of thing you are talking about. For us, 18 years have passed and yet I still hear the lies being believed. But rest assured that the One who sees knows the truth, and that's all that really matters. May the Lord lead you to a place of refreshing and renewal.

It is a sad day. Now our family has to begin the search for a new church. It is hard, but we cannot stay in a church that allows this wrong to be done.

Sorry to hear all this - it's so hard to change churches - especially when kids are involved. Blessings as you decide where you will worship now. :sad1:

Thank you both for your kind words and prayers.
I know that God is faithful and that He will be with us. We are seeking Him and asking for His direction.

I have posted this one before; it is one of my favorites. I listened to it this morning and was reminded again that when I cry out to Jesus, in Him I can find hope, rest, love, grace, and mercy.

Cry Out to Jesus
by Third Day

To everyone who's lost someone they love
Long before it was their time
You feel like the days you had were not enough
when you said goodbye

And to all of the people with burdens and pains
Keeping you back from your life
You believe that there's nothing and there is no one
Who can make it right

Chorus

There is hope for the helpless
Rest for the weary
Love for the broken heart
There is grace and forgiveness
Mercy and healing
He'll meet you wherever you are
Cry out to Jesus, Cry out to Jesus

For the marriage that's struggling just to hang on
They lost all of their faith and love
They've done all they can to make it right again
Still it's not enough

For the ones who can't break the addictions and chains
You try to give up but you come back again
Just remember that you're not alone in your shame
And your suffering

Chorus

When your lonely (when you're lonely)
And it feels like the whole world is falling on you
You just reach out, you just cry out to Jesus
Cry to Jesus

To the widow who suffers from being alone
Wiping the tears from her eyes
For the children around the world without a home
Say a prayer tonight

Chorus

Enjoy the Journey
by Naomi Carroll

Do you ever think
God’s given up on you
When your faith is weak
And you question what He can do
Let me encourage your heart
He knows right where you are

CHORUS:
Enjoy the journey
Rest in God’s love
Give Him glory
Be strong and stand up
For He has given
A life worth living
Until eternity
Enjoy the journey, enjoy the journey

Be faithful and trust
His work in you has begun
Don’t ever give up
Just hold on to what He has done
So don’t waste time with your tears
So just let go of your fears

CHORUS

Oh, I know sometimes this life is hard
And it seems heaven is so far
But He has promised better days

CHORUS

A Mighty Fortress
by Christy Nockels

Our God is, a consuming fire,
A burning holy Flame, with glory and freedom
Our God is, the only righteous judge,
Ruling over us with kindness and wisdom

We will keep our eyes on You
We will keep our eyes on You

A mighty fortress is our God
A sacred refuge is Your Name
Your Kingdom is unshakable
With You forever we will reign

Our God is, jealous for His own
None could comprehend, His love and His mercy
Our God is exalted on His throne
High above the heavens
Forever He’s worthy...

We will keep our eyes on You
We will keep our eyes on You

We will keep our eyes on You
We will keep our eyes on You
So we can set our hearts on You
Lord we will set our hearts on You!

The Stand
by Hillsong United

You stood before creation
Eternity in your hand
You spoke the earth into motion
My soul now to stand

You stood before my failure
And carried the cross for my shame
My sin weighed upon your shoulders
My soul now to stand

So what could I say?
And what could I do?
But offer this heart, Oh God
Completely to you

So I'll walk upon salvation
Your spirit alive in me
This life to declare your promise
My soul now to stand

So what could I say?
And what could I do?
But offer this heart, Oh God
Completely to you

I'll stand
With arms high and heart abandoned
In awe of the one who gave it all
I'll stand
My soul Lord to you surrendered
All I am is yours

Becoming
by Naomi Carroll

I’m letting go of my way
Finally letting go after all these years
And as myself is dying
Jesus is trying to come through
God, tell me why I’m hurting
Does this mean that I’m healing
Oh, this painful trip I’m taking
Will it be over soon, will it be over soon
I have become, comfortably numb
But you say

CHORUS:
It’s not what I was
But what I am becoming
That’s how you see me
Not who I hope to be
But who I am
I was afraid to walk but now I’m running
To who I am becoming

I’m staring at this mountain
I finally know what I must do
‘Cause there’s no way around it, above it, or below it
So I’m going through
I have become, comfortably numb
But you say

CHORUS

Who I am becoming, yeah

LAST CHORUS:
It’s not what I was
But who I am becoming
Now that’s how you see me
Not who I hope to be
But who I am
I was afraid to walk
Sometimes afraid to crawl
But now I’m running
To who I am becoming, yeah
Oh, who I am becoming, Jesus
You’re who I am becoming
Help me to become

Hi everyone. It has been a while since I posted. The summer has been a wonderful family time. I am so thankful that we have had it! Our family is in the process of visiting churches. That is so hard! We have found three that we like so we are praying and seeking God's direction.
Today I bought Steven Curtis Chapman's new CD. It is great. There is a recreated version of Magnificent Obsession on it. It had been a long time since I had heard the original. I have listened to that song so many times today! The words are my heart's cry! So I thought I would post it. The video link is to the original, not the new version. I prefer the new version, though. The words are still the same, and they are the best thing about the song.

Magnificent Obsession
by Steven Curtis Chapman

Lord, You know how much
I want to know so much
In the way of answers and explanations
I have cried and prayed
And still I seem to stay
In the middle of life’s complications
All this pursuing leaves me feeling like I’m chasing down the wind
But now it’s brought me back to You
And I can see again

This is everything I want
This is everything I need
I want this to be my one consuming passion
Everything my heart desires
Lord, I want it all to be for You, Jesus
Be my magnificent obsession

So capture my heart again
Take me to depths I’ve never been
Into the riches of Your grace and Your mercy
Return me to the cross
And let me be completely lost
In the wonder of the love
That You’ve shown me
Cut through these chains that tie me down to so many lesser things
Let all my dreams fall to the ground
Until this one remains

You are everything I want
You are everything I need
I want You to be my one consuming passion
Everything my heart desires
Lord, I want it all to be for You
I want it all to be for You

You are everything I want
And You are everything I need
Lord, You are all my heart desires
You are everything to me

Our choir sang this song Sunday morning as we remembered September 11, 2001. It gave me chills. AWESOME song, awesome words! It took me a while to find it online. The worship leader of a church in Virginia wrote it; his name is Travis Doucette. The song is not available on iTunes. However, the church does offer his music onine at Red Tie Music.

Defender
words and music by Travis Doucette

VERSE 1
He is near to the broken,
He is close to the weary of heart.
In His Name is a refuge,
Safety for the weak and discarded.

PRE-CHORUS
There is help for the hopeless,
For the wounded in need.
In the presence of Jesus,
There is power unleashed.

CHORUS
Call upon the name of the Lord,
He’s our Defender, our Deliverer.
A Shelter in the midst of the storm,
Jesus, our Savior, He is King over all the earth.

VERSE 2
I will sing of my Redeemer,
Testify to the touch of His hand,
Lifted me from disaster,
Set my feet on a solid rock to stand.

PRE-CHORUS

CHORUS (2x)

BRIDGE
God is our Refuge, our Strength, and Salvation,
A Mighty Fortress is the Lord Almighty.
There is no equal, no power beside him.
Forever our Champion is the Lord our God.

TAG
Our Savior, He is King over all -
Our Savior, He is King over all the earth.

I thought so too. I also love the song. I contacted the writer of the song yesterday. He told me that the choir version of the song from the video is done by the Prestonwood Choir, from their album You Reign. Afer learning that information I was able to find it on iTunes!

A little off topic is anyone going to see the movie Corageous sp?

Good. I am glad I was able to help you find the song.

I cannot wait to see Courageous! It opens at the end of September, the 30th I think. I have not been able to see a sneak preview showing. I know it will be good, though; all of their movies have been good. :thumbsup2

Anybody here go to Night of Joy? I was there both nights and saw some amazing performances. Sidewalk Prophets were my favorite, but Mercy Me was also outstanding.

Very nice, TLHB, thanks much for sharing. Very powerful indeed.

for church on Sunday, we played Natalie Grant's song 'Held' as we lit candles and remembered 9/11

If you haven't heard that song, check it out. Its fantastic.

Have enjoyed all the great songs everyone has posted!!!!!

EMHDad - Love that song "Held" by Natalie Grant.

Here is one I really love -

Jamie Slocum - Just Another Mountain

This life is so temporary so I will treasure my time,
yeah
I spend my days bringing comfort to the lost and left behind
The struggles that I face,
some days they weight me down
And all this tragedy,
I just don't understand
So love is the song I keep on singing,
preach it to my soul
And love is the gift that God keeps giving, He is in control
When all is lost and seems forgotten,
it feels so out of reach
It's nothing He has not seen before
This is just another mountain
Just another mountain.

And another
Mikes Chair - Someone Worth Dying For
[Verse 1]
You might be the wife, waiting up at night
You might be the man, sturggling to provide
feeling like it's hopeless
Maybe ur the son who chose a broken road
Maybe ur the girl thinking you'll end up alone
Praying God can you hear me?
Oh, God are you listening?

[Chorus]
Am I more than flesh and bone?
Am I really something beautiful?
Yeah, I want to believe, I want to believe that
I'm not just some wandering soul
That you don't see and you don't know
Yeah, I want to believe, Jesus help me believe
That I am someone worth dying for

[Verse 2]
I know you've heard the truth that God has set you free
But you think you're the one that grace could never reach
{ From: http://www.elyrics.net/read/m/mikeschair-lyrics/someone-worth-dying-for-lyrics.html }
So you just keep asking, Oh, what everybody's asking

[Repeat Chorus]

[Bridge]
Your worth it, you can't earn it
Yeah, the cross has proven,
That you're sacred and blameless.
Your life has purpose!

You are more than flesh and bone
Can't you see your something beautiful
Yeah, you gotta believe, you gotta believe
He wants you to see, He wants you to see that
You're not just some wandering soul
That can't be seen and can't be known
You gotta believe, you gotta believe
That you are someone worth dying for

You're someone worth dying for
Someone worth dying for
