Choosing a Stateroom on the Magic

We just got off the Fantasy and booked a placeholder. I am considering 2 different options, both of which are on the Magic, so I am wondering:

1) Am I reading the plans correctly--the Deluxe Oceanview with Verandah is actually larger on the Magic than on the Fantasy?

2) We liked having the queen bed closer to the bathrooms (as opposed to the balcony). Do we need to request that, or is it the case in all Disney staterooms?

3) Any suggestions as to Port or Starboard side? We will either do a repositioning cruise from NYC to San Juan, stopping in Tortola and St. Maarten, or the Southern Caribbean to/from San Juan stopping in Barbados, St. Lucia, Martinique, Antiqua and St. Kitts.

Really have the travel bug now...this was my 12th cruise, but first on Disney. Kids first cruise. I was VERY impressed!

Thanks.

1) Yes, the rooms on the Dream class ships are smaller than the Magic class ones.

2) Yes, the standard set up is (as you enter the room from the passageway) you pass the bathroom on one side and the closet on the other. The bed will be next (on the same side of you as the bathroom was), then the sofa (also on the same side as the bed), with the desk being opposite the sofa.

3) For that one way cruise the "land side" (during cruising) will be on the starboard side. That said, you probably won't get much of a land view, as you'll be at least 12 miles out. The round trip, probably won't make any difference which side you're on.

Thanks. I was actually interested in how it docks in each port.

2). The bed is closer to the bathrooms in just about all standard room layouts (which is what I expect you are talking about). Some obvious variations are concierge suites and of course handicap rooms.

3). If you are requisitioning south, if you are on the port side, the sun will be waking you up each morning. Starboard you will be seeing the setting sun. It matters only if you have a specific sleep scheudle.

As for how the ship docks in each port, you will have to look at maps for each place to see the orientation of the pier. Though there is not a guarantee which direction the ship will face. It can depend on weather, maintenance, or planned crew drills. But I understand your concern. I was thinking had I had a more port side room, I could have enjoyed the sun longer on my most recent cruise, than the room we were in. It was fine, just something small to note.

Well, docking can vary, depending on a number things (weather, if work needs to be done one one side or the other of the ship, whatever). When we were in Tortola and St Maarten in 2010 we were bow in and docked on the starboard side. In 2014 in St Maarten we were bow in and docked on the port side.

We had room 7126 last year and really liked the set up. The verandah was a port hole rather than a fully open balcony, which I really liked. We are in 8036 this year and will let you know, but we love the Magic!
