children in upper class..

Just wondering anyone can help with how child friendly UC Virgin is. We are flying home in UC next year with a 5y/o.

The UC cabin crew are perfectly friendly and very accommodating to children. It can be awkward, but as long as children are well behaved there's no problem. When we last flew UC with our three children (just over a year ago) there was another young girl in upper who was about 2 or 3 (same age as our youngest DS) and she was an absolute nightmare. Her parents couldn't keep her quiet and she screamed and cried for about 20 minutes straight! I could tell some of the other passengers were getting annoyed, but on the MCO route children in Upper Class tend to be quite common. It would have been much worse on the JFK or another more business-orientated route.

They still have special children's meal options, the excellent in-flight entertainment and the back-pack bags filled with some useless rubbish that tends to keep the children occupied for about half an hour!

The question's irrelevent, really. The fact is that children are allowed in UC. If they're 'well-behaved' (i.e. quiet!) no-one has a problem. If they play up (as children are inclined to do) both the cabin crew and the other passengers will be less than impressed. We spent a homeward journey (read night-time, everyone wanting to sleep) with a toddler who screamed for the duration. The parents didn't seem to give a ****. I was tolerent for a couple of hours. The cabin crew wanted to kill the child.

hi, well my dd is relatively well behaved and is not likely to scream a whole flight(she will be 5), she is an only child so is quite happy to read, draw and entertain her self, and as it is a night flight hopefully she will sleep the whole way, she seems to have no problem sleeping on planes.

the question accrued to me as I was talking to dbf and said I would be annoyed if a child made a lot of noise though out the flight when I paid a lot of money to upgrade so this got me thinking about other people attitude to my dd. To be honest if I thought my dd would behave badly I would not even book to go UC as it would ruin the flight for both other passengers and myself.

To be honest it is annoying when children misbehave in ANY class on a plane (Upper Class, Economy or anything in between) or on a train or on a bus or on a supermarket....

It is not where they are that is important (you have as much right to take your children in Upper Class as any other passenger has of being there...), but how they behave. Am sure that you have brough your DD up well, so will have to problems

If I was travelling with a child in Upper Class, I would make them very aware that it was "very special" and that "kids were only allowed there when on their best behaviour" (not exactly true, but makes them feel special and understand that good behaviour is important). This is what my parents did when they took me to a posh/special restaurant when I was a child - seemd to work pretty well... I would probably also make a point of showing the child som eeconomy seats - to point out how lucky they were (and how importantgood behaviour is).

Still worth taking plenty of coloruing books, story books, puzzles and games to keep her entertained (in between movies, food and naps). It might be a good idea to put the UC seat into bed mode and allow her to have a little nap on the way too - might help her to stay up later when she gets there without getting over-tired (that's what I do!)

some very good advice, shame people can't tell their kids how lucky they are to be travelling anywhere, any class at all! I have had flights ruined by badly behaved children in all classes!

we are not flying UC on the way out so won't be using lounges, we fly from manchester anyway.

You will be able to use the Delta lounge at Orlando International.

Not very... have regularly seen children in Virgin's lounges (including toddlers/babies). Don't think that there is a problem if the kid is on a Upper Class ticket...
