As the mom of an inquisitive and acrobatic 18-month-old, I'm interested in the safety locks on the balcony doors at the CR. Are they at a height where a child can open them? Or a small child standing on a chair? (This is his latest favorite trick, so nothing below chest height on me is really safe from his marauding.)

Of course, our plan is to watch him very carefully, but we'll have connecting rooms, so there's always the long-shot chance that he could climb out of the pack&play and get the doors open without us hearing him. I'd feel better knowing that there's no way he can open the lock.

For an 18 month old the locks on the balcony doors would to high where he could open the door. Even if he knew that he could push the chair from the computer all the way to the door and try to stand up on it, I don't think he would even be tall enough for doing that.

Thanks, CR Resort Fan! You've been very helpful.

As far as the "even if he knew"... I'm reluctant to put anything past him. The other day, I was at Cold Stone Creamery ordering a birthday cake. In the time that it took me to fill out a 5-line form, he found a way to turn off the emergency exit signs and reprogram the ice cream freezer. He's the most good-natured little guy on the planet, full of smiles and hugs for everyone, but it's hard to turn my back on him for a second. He'll be 2 by the time we get to WDW, though, so I'm hoping that six more months of patient discipline will keep the situation manageable.

You're welcome and I hope everything works out, so he does not try to do anything behind you're back.

. . . In the time that it took me to fill out a 5-line form, he found a way to turn off the emergency exit signs and reprogram the ice cream freezer . . .

1) Sounds like some discipline is needed here.
2) Let's face it, opinion is always made from the point of view.
. . . if your kids, they are active and inquisitive
. . . if someone else's kids and act the same way, they are brats

1) He's 18 months old.
2) Get a life.

. . . if you are posting useless, pointless lists you're being helpful
. . . if someone else posting it they're still useless and pointless

I'd agree if he was a little older, but at 18 months, there's not much I can do but sit him down and tell him a stern "no." Both the sign and the freezer were in the seating area and had buttons about a foot off the ground, which were difficult to see from adult height but easily visible to someone his size. I fear you have the impression that I was letting him run around like a wildman, rather than just poking quietly about at ground level.

I know what you mean about point of view -- the eyes of love are often a bit blind! But believe me, he's my third kid and I've navigated two through this stage to become respectable members of preschool society. I can give you teacher references if desired...:)
