Child swap??

So my nine year old can get a little nervous with some of the bigger rides. How does child swap work at Universal? We are staying on property and will have unlimited express pass. TIA

Everyone goes through the line (express line if you have express pass). Then towards the end there is a place for those you are waiting to wait usually a nice air conditioned room with a small tv showing a movie. Then when group one has ridden they go to the swap room and the person who waited with go to a location near the swap room to ride. The swap rooms are usually really close to the where you get on and off the ride. I love rider swap at universal way more than at Disney.

As @murmer said it's pretty apparent where the rider swap area is when you get, as well as get off the ride, however you can always ask a TM if you have any questions, as there are only a couple of rides where it isn't exactly right when you get off the attraction, but it is near.

Follow up question.... do you have to ride alone or, like Disney, can one or two of the riders in the first group ride a second time with the person who waited? Example...
husband goes on ride with two older kids while I wait with youngest. Then I ride with the older kids while he swaps the youngest with me.

In another thread I recall a few people stated it is possible if it's one child. For example, one person stays with a child, the other goes with one child. Then the person who rode stays with the child who can't/didn't want to go, while the person who waited originally goes onto the attraction again with the same child who went previously. A few confirmed this to be possible, but as for more than one re-riders unsure, so someone else would have to confirm if that is possible. If you never get an answer you can ask while at the parks.

You definitely don't have to ride alone. We have 3 children so some rides only one is tall enough and he would ride with me and then DH. Other rides, everyone was tall enough but DD just doesn't like too much excitement. Anyhow, I know that I rode JP River Adventure with both my sons and then DH rode with both our sons. I think both adults also rode with both sons on Transformers using rider swap because DD was just too scared.

I should say that was my experience; I can't speak to the policy. Those are also not the busiest rides. I can see them being a little more strict at say Hagrid's, but no one questioned us at those rides.

We went as a group of 12 adults and one infant in 2015 and on every ride that we tried all 11 adults that wanted to could ride both times while someone waited with the baby. Please note: 1) I don't know if this is the rule 2) We were there in mid-August (14th) and the parks were pretty quiet 3) I've been told other parts of our experience on that trip were not the norm but I only have this one experience to go by.
