Does anyone have any experience using a framed child back carrier in the parks?

My daughter loves it and will sit in it all day! She prefers it better then the stroller. We are thinking of bringing the carrier and a smaller stroller ( for naps and give mommy and daddy a break) then originally planned. We just don't think she will be up for the stroller the whole time we are there. We may or may not take a break at the hotel in the afternoons....we will go with the flow when we are there.

Would this work in the parks? Could we leave the carrier with the stroller parking for rides? Any other help, advice, opinions would be great. BTW, she just turned 1 and will be almost 15 months while there.

We took ours with us in March and it was great for my dd1. She rode it in while we walked around and waited in lines. We left it in the stroller during some rides. For others, dh actually just kept her in it on his back while we rode the ride (It's a Small World, Living With the Land, etc). Going to and from the parks, we put dd1 in the stroller and sort of hung the kidpack on the back of the stroller sideways so that we didnt' have to carry it. It was also great at the end of the day when the baby fell asleep and the buses were standing room only. Only issue..dh's back hurt by the end of the trip as he was used to wearing it so often.

My parents took my sister down in a carrier when I was 4 and she was nine months. It worked out great for them and I can only imagine that if they had a nicer backpack then, like the one I have for my daughter now, it would have been even better. You could probably take the pack with you on the rides. I love our pack for two reasons -- it's easier to navigate in crowds and I don't have to worry about anyone tripping into our stroller.

Um...I'll correct that last part to "dh's back hurt at the end of each day and was really, really in pain by the end of the eight day trip". But, the carrier was an older hand me down and so was probably not the best designed one out on the market.

We have 4 kids and DH much prefers the backpack to the stroller. We just put the backpack on the ride with us on the floor, or else leave it with a CM if it won't fit. I know it's got to get heavy after a while but DH says he much prefers it to pushing a stroller (our oldest 3 were born within 4 years and we used to pile all 3 in to a double stroller and push them all around the parks :rotfl: ).

Do what works best for you, but I dont like them in the parks. Bring a front carrier instead. We brought our baby bjorn carrier for our son when he was 20 mos old because he could sit in it in lines and stay in it on rides and in shows. A backpack would be very awkward in lines, since people are so tight. You would also need to take it off on rides and in shows.
