Yesterday we received a postcard announcing a special DVC event at the Fairmont in Chicago, IL on November 19th & 20th. Has anyone been to an event like this? I think it is celebrating the Lights on Michigan Avenue. I am wondering if this is going to be a hard sell event? Even so, will there be some "fun" as well? I ask because I am thinking about bringing my nieces.
Thanks for any info.

Wow, that sounds nice. I never heard of anything like this before, but it sounds like fun. We live 4 hours away. I would love to know more details. Do they have info on the DVC member website?

I received the same postcard. I live in Northwest Indiana. Did they do this last year? Is it worth driving downtown, parking and participating in this event?

I just RSVP'd for Sunday!

It's the same weekend as the downtown light festival. Saturday, especially, would be worth the trip. They do the grand illumination, Disney does a free character show, there's a parade, ice carvers, cheesecake decorating and all sorts of other fun stuff.

For those in the suburbs it's a pretty easy day as well. You can get $5 Metra weekend pass, take the train in and use the free trolleys to get around. Not a bad day!

We did the Disney Michigan Ave Lighting Festival a number of years ago. It was a wonderful day spent down town and seeing the characters topping off with the parade and the lighting of the lights. We spent the weekend at the Swiss Hotel which made things very easy since my boys were little at the time. Would love to go again and do the members event but we are booked solid that weekend with basketball games and our football banquet.

Oh well, maybe next year.

Would anyone be willing to PM me with details? I'm from WI but would love to drive down for this.

Thanks,
Nancy :earsgirl:

I would love to know details too. I live in Indiana, so we aren't far. I looked on the website and didn't see information on it.
Thanks,

Here are the details.
The postcard invites DVC members to enjoy the Michigan Avenue Lights at the fairmont Hotel. The date options are Nov 19 or 20 at 10am or 2pm. When i called they asked how many people would be attending.
I just called 800-******** and mentioned that i wanted to reserve for the Chicago member event. There isn't much detail about the event, but they did ask me if I had any food allergies in my party and they informed me there would be member updates, door prizes, giveaways, entertainment and to bring a camera. That's everything i know.
We are going and it sounds like fun. :earsboy:

Yep that is all the info they gave me too. I choose Saturday at 2pm. Plus there is a link of all the events happening on the mag mile on the other Chicago thread on the planning board.

Can someone PM me the number? We live in Chicago but haven't gotten the card!

Do you know how to get to the Fairmont from Union Station?

I've been away from the boards for a couple of weeks.

I live in Chicago (northside) but did not receive anything about this. Can someone give me the details????

There's a bus that goes from Union Sta. down Michigan Ave. I believe the number is 151.

Just call MS and they will set you up.

We are going SUnday at 10.

They had a few events like this some years back, at the Drake Hotel. I seem to recall they were in January. Farily informal, with some sales reps present. Not a hard sell. But at the time, it was for us a good time to do add-ons. I don't think they've had one of these in about 4 or 5 years, maybe longer.
Fairmont is a nice hotel, about a quarter mile off Michigan Ave, at the River. Should be nice. We plan on going.

If the weather's not bad, it's about a mile or a 20-25 minute walk. I do it every day commuting to/from work. The Fairmont is just north of Millenium Park around Columbus and Lake Street.

Have fun today everyone!!!

Who is going to report back first I wonder.... lol
