Slo: Yep, it was a good reply, but if Stepahnie was given a "free miss" then why did she need to send you the original letter at all? It should be sent home on the second infraction, not the free miss. I'm sure she felt bad about having to send home such a stern note, but if it is just a standardized letter, she doesn't have a lot of choice. She must have felt pretty embarrassed if she called and sent you an explanation. The teacher probably has to write the note to the lowest common denominator -- the parent or child that often comes unprepared. Stephanie unfortunately had to be given this note even though she is prepared on a regular basis.

Well this day certainly is a lot different than yesterday huh. I nearly got blown down the street and I got a little junk in my trunk (okay fine, more than a little junk )

I can't believe all the kids that are using Power Point!!!

Lauren does have computer classes at school and her room has it's own set of computers and a web cam (where they talk to one of the other 3rd grade classes down the hall!! )


slo I would have wanted to know if my DD had seen a social worker or counselor at school too! I can't believe they didn't send a note or call. At Lauren's school they are very good about calling me. And at her last school ,before we moved, they never called!

Hunter and I need to go out and run some errands, and I dread driving my van in this wind!! It always is so hard to drive that tall vehicle in harsh winds!! I'm on pins and needles the whole time!!

Also, I think that the email from Stephanie's gym teacher was just ok. Sending a generic letter is not ok, especially since she stated that it was her first offence and it is allowed!! Well then, how about a different note for the first offenders. What, she can't type out separate notes and copy them so she has them handy??


geffric I'm guessing your boys are like the one's I see around here that are of similar age that never wear coats??!! What's up with that??





All this talk to kids clothes reminds me that there is a big sale this evening and tomorrow morning at Kohls! And both kids have out grown their summer clothes and they need some for our vacation next month!!!

Becky **Was is IEP?

An IEP = Individual Education Plan. Basically, if your child needs extra services of any sort, you get an IEP. You go have meetings with the school & determine what services your child needs.

Basically if you have any extra needs speech, occupational therapy, special seating, extra time on tests, tests being READ to you as opposed to reading it yourself, etc... It also goes for kids who are gifted.

Basically, anything that isn't in the average range and is more than just a small modification that the teacher chooses to do, then it goes on the IEP.

Actually ALL my boys have one, some just have longer more complicated ones than others. My little guy just started speech therapy since he's 3 and it's through the school system...it's an IEP even though he's not in preschool or anything.

I get to go next week for my 1st graders meeting to get it set-up for next year, we will see if he has speech in the summer. Then a couple weeks after that, we go to my older son's meeting & see if he qualifies for summer school this year or not.

The funny thing though is by going to the IEP meetings so early, I already know if my kids are going to pass the grade they are in or not. Seems weird to me but basically unless something catastrophic happens, they already know in March which kids are going to pass the grade. Always makes me wonder, just how important is the "rest of the year" stuff, KWIM?

So, our schooling never ends.... Does make for interesting summer stuff though.

Hi, everyone

I still feel sick but not as bad, because I finally started taking something for it(I wasn't before) and I took something last night for "nighttime" and I slept about 9 hours without a problem I might have not come to work today, but I'm going to be out all next week so I had things I needed to do before going on vacation.

Speaking of flash drives, you all know that they have Disney ones, right?? I've been wanting to get myself one

slo - I think that it's too bad she uses a "standardized" note, but at least you let her know how you felt about it and she acknowledged it.

I really wish I was at home, resting, snuggling, playing video games, etc (I just bought myself Guitar Hero and it's really addicting!!!!)

Slo.... Nice response. I didn't realize it was a standardized note. That makes more sense and she had a good response to your email. Was it hand written though?
Did she ever answer you though about why they had gym on a half day?

Hi all-
I'm feeling better. Finally I'm eating solid food again I still have a low-grade fever, but not too bad. Chrissy is doing better, too. She went to school today.
I've been disinfecting and doing laundry today.

Today at school they have the ISAT pep rally. The Illinois state testing starts next week at our school. Dh and I find it's a little ridiculous that the school is having a pep rally for the ISAT testing??
Oh well... at least the kids get out of class for a few minutes for this

Our school uses Powerpoint, also, for in-school reports,etc. Next yr, my kids get to bring home a laptop from school(5th and 6th graders get to do this at our school).

jedi- glad you are feeling a little better. Have a great trip to DL

slo- glad the gym teacher was able to respond back to your note. Maybe the gym teacher has to send these notes home b/c your school dist. requires this and/or principal requires this? Just a thought.

A pep rally for it??? Interesting. Yes, it's that time of year. Luckily, I think DD's are all done in the morning because she has an orthodontist appointment on Tuesday??? (I have to look, sometime next week), it's at lunchtime though. I already cancelled 1 appt. due to some standardized testing earlier, I didn't know there were MORE coming up. Oh well, I'm not changing it again. She is *so* close to being done with braces that I don't want to make her wait more than necessary.

Boy oh boy, I keep looking at that horizontal snow and I dread having to go outside in a couple of minutes to see Stephanie off the bus I was going to take the girls to the library after Steph came home, but I think I will pass on that idea - I'm a wimp!!!! (plus Katie is still sleeping, and I'd hate to wake her to go out into the snow)

I'm actually happy because I was able to get a decent rate at the hotel I wanted in DL. I'm now staying at the Best Western Park Place Inn which is literally smack across the street from the park entrance! I'd been eyeing the rates but wasn't happy with them (esp since it's just me!) and had a ressie somewhere else a little further away, but today I checked and I guess since it's coming up on Monday, the rate dropped! And I have airport shuttle to the hotel, round trip for only $16 with the AAA discount, free shuttle to Universal, so I'm all set - no need for a car rental or anything. I got my DL tickets awhile ago, made DH buy me my Universal ticket when he came back from Italy so all I need to pay for is my hotel and spending $$ - a trip all on my own with NOTHING put on a credit card - I'm so proud of myself!
