I need opinions. I know you guys are good with those :)

My Dad and I spent the day looking at cars. (we do this for fun)
I have been wanting a new car for a while now, and have pretty much narrowed it down to two options. I really like both the Kia Sorento, and the Chevy Equinox. We test drove both today, and they are both nice. I like certain little things better about each one, but not enough to make a huge difference either way.

And, they are both almost EXACTLY the same price.
I probably won't be able to get one for a couple months, but I was wondering if anyone out there has experience with either. And they would probably both be brand new when I buy it, so either a 2004, or 2005.

Thanks so much!

Lisa

Well, there'd be no question for me, we're a GM family. But...just food for thought.
Kia's warranty is better, but Kia's are also not known to be built as well as the "big 3" GM, Ford, and Toyota...

If you buy a 2004 right now- your going to get a heck of a good deal they're "left overs"....HOWEVER once you drive that baby off the lot- it's now ONE YEAR OLD...

Take for instance DH's pick up- if we trade it in- its a 2001, they're going to tell us it's 4 years old, however if we were to buy it- they'd tell us it's 3 years old...

get it? So basically- what I'm saying is- if your going to keep the car for quite some time- longer than the loan/lease against it, go ahead and get the "old" one...if your planning on only keeping it for 2-4 years- go with the 05, since it wont be old when you drive off the lot.

I got my "Nox"in July and absolutely love it! Rides like a dream, good on gas, tons of room. I did a 400 mile trip on a solo drive and its the first time I didn't feel like a pretzel getting out the car.
There were some initial problems with the struts (of course mine had the problem), but they were replaced and all's well again.

Can you tell I love this car??? There is no 2004 Equinox. They just came out and have a 2005 designation.

Whatever you do, be VERY careful of Kia. I won't go into the entire long story but suffice it to say that neither the company nor their dealers stand behind their product like they should. Not too mention the product is inferior. If you'd like full details feel free to PM me.

Go with the Chevy...I would never buy a KIA..just remember, you get what you pay for!

I also vote for the Equinox. We were looking at them when we were shopping for a new car. The only reason why we could not get it was there was not enough cargo space for our family. Our stroller would barely fit. We ended up with the extended Trailblazer.

From reading my automotive boards most agree that there is a reason the Kia warrenty is so long, you'll need it! Buy the GM, and this is coming from a Ford guy.

This was going to be my answer exactly!!! Aside from mechanical issues, I got rear ended, low speed, by a Kia SUV in my Ford minivan. I had minor damage, her front end was completely destroyed. She could barely drive it 20 feet to get it off the main road.

Hi,

DH and I bought a KIA as our first car (Sportage Ex), because it was really reasonable and we were able to afford the payments back then.

WHAT A MISTAKE...I will never ever ever buy a Kia again. The day we drove off the lot, the power windows got stuck and it would not go up, the 4 wheel drive went so many times, then parts were being recalled, we should have know right there to turn back and return the car.

We just didn't feel safe in the car...imho, please...don't buy the Kia. We would rather drive around in an old beat up putt putt before we ever step into another Kia again!

I'm opting for the Equinox - but I'm biased since my DB is a sales manager for GM. I just can't wait to get rid of my Extended Trailblazer for my Equinox. The $47 fill-ups drive me mad!

Neither, get a Dodge Durango! :teeth:
