Cheney considered provoking Iran

I don't think that anyone would ever consider that they would have to provoke Israel ever to defend herself.

Then you grossly underestimate our current administration who would love to start something with Iran (and I'm not saying that there is or isn't cause for that), but doesn't want to be seen by the American public as "going looking for another fight" after the mess we've gotten into in Iraq. By supporting an ally in their cause, the administration gets much less grief than they otherwise would.

BTW....I agree that there is no way that Israel will knowingly allow Iran or any other anti-Israel state in the region to go nuclear. Our administration just wants the conflict sooner rather than later.

I feel a lot of things for Israel... Some good some bad..Just like I feel about most countries..I have strong religious ties to Israel, that does not mean I agree with every stap the country has taken... The issue I was responding to was countries haing nuclear weapons..Frankly, I don't want to see any country having them, be that country Israel, Iran or the USA
It's not Islam itself that wants to see Israel driven into the sea and denies the Holocaust, but some extremist groups within Islam..I know of plenty of Christians who deny the Holocaust

It is clearly Ahmedinijad that wants Israel driven into the sea and denies the Holocaust. He is the puppet president of the country at this point. We know that the Ayatolla is really in charge.

There are Jews freely practicing their religion in Iran. Don't you get tired of using that card? There are also Jews who do not believe the Holocaust occurred. Makes them fools, doesn't mean you can kill them.

Wouldn´t life just be a lot easier if we could kill all fools?

I think it is extremely arrogant for one nuke country to want to ban another country from making nukes. Again, that being Israel, USA, Iran or any other country of the world.

Should Iran have nuclear weapons? No. How about India, Pakistan, the USA and Israel? NO. Plain and simple..For every country that acquires them, there are multitudes that feel the need to do so too, to balance the field.

I think that President Bush has been clear from the outset that Iran will not be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons and has left no doubt about that. The American public will not be surprised by any action we take against Iran or the support we lend to Israel if they do. You are looking for some subtrifuge that doesn't exist.

As I said before, I am NOT happy with ANY country having nuclear weapons. NOBODY should have that killing power.

No kidding...I mean what if oh, Bangladesh ,decides the US has no right to have nuclear weapons and decides that they have the right to invade or to perhaps drop some bombs on DC. Why does the USA have the right to have nuclear weapons and yet get to dictate who doesn't?

Nor should we be developing chemical and biological weapons on one hand while we wage war with the other...:sad2:

especially with the dubious distinction of being the ONLY country to use them....

I´m gonna ask again. Who gave Bush the right to decide this? Is the world playing a game of "Bush says" and if you don´t comply you get bombed? It sounds absurd but that´s basically what you seem to be saying. Correct me if I´m wrong.

My point exactly.

While the President has been clear, and the American public may not be surprised, but they certainly will not be happy if we start something with yet another country in the Middle East, costing billions of dollars & increasing the deficit, while domestic issues such as health care, education, and an increasing tax burden on the middle class are left to flounder.

There is responsibility that comes with being a superpower. Part of that responsibility is not allowing a country that has vowed to wipe out another country, supports terrorism around the world, has threatened their neighbors, wages a proxy war against the US and Israel, to acquire weapons that would further their cause. The US (except under Carter) has never shirked from that responsibility.

Except that with the current administration that responsibility comes with a huge dose of arrogance that is contributing to the hate extremists have for the United States.

Iran signed the Treaty for the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. It's not the USA that's trying to prevent Iran from getting nuclear weapons. It's the world (or everyone EXCEPT I think three countries that haven't signed at this point... mind you, Israel is one of them). So is it arrogance to expect a nation to live up to its treaty obligations?

Consider that the lives saved by ending WWII far outweighed the lives lost, I don't consider it a dubious distinction.

We ( Bush & Co) have destroyed Iraq. Is that the same as wiped out? Because we haven't threatened it, we have done it. What does that make us? We don't threaten our neighbors, save Cuba. Just OTHER countries neighbors. Iraq, Iran, North Korea, ..to name a few.

It is too tiresome to go back to the NUMEROUS terrorists attacks against US interests preceeding this administration. The reality is, they hated us before, they will hate us after. Hate is what they do. They don't need a reason.

Of course. You wouldn't.
To you the only lives of value are American or Israeli. As an American I would thank you to stop waging war in my name.
