Cheney considered provoking Iran

Iran signed the Treaty for the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. It's not the USA that's trying to prevent Iran from getting nuclear weapons. It's the world (or everyone EXCEPT I think three countries that haven't signed at this point... mind you, Israel is one of them). So is it arrogance to expect a nation to live up to its treaty obligations?

I believe Iran should live up to it's treaty obligations, Yes.

It is too tiresome to go back to the NUMEROUS terrorists attacks against US interests preceeding this administration. The reality is, they hated us before, they will hate us after. Hate is what they do. They don't need a reason.

Of course there have been attacks in the past. Everyone always guns for the top dog, it's been going on for centuries. And I'll even agree with you that they don't need a reason for their hate, but why should we give them one? That's what our arrogant President has done, given moderates a reason to lean more and more toward radicalism.

Consider that the lives saved by ending WWII far outweighed the lives lost, I don't consider it a dubious distinction.

Unless, of course, it's your family that ends up dying. That usually changes things.

Dick Cheney seems a bit too comfortable with death, and too quick to go to war. War has very serious consequences that remain decades/generations later.

Hunting accident--yeah, right.

No kidding...I mean what if oh, Bangladesh ,decides the US has no right to have nuclear weapons and decides that they have the right to invade or to perhaps drop some bombs on DC. Why does the USA have the right to have nuclear weapons and yet get to dictate who doesn't?

One post and one post only. Because we ARE morally superior to all the others. I say this with genuine love for this country. The others are not our moral equivalents. It never ceases to amaze me the number of people who cannot or will not grasp that.

Nice, Very nice.

The thing is, That's exactly what extremists say to justify their attacks on us

American Arrogance at its finest! (kind of reminds me of the nuns that taught us only Catholics could get into heaven....and we wonder why they hate us?):rolleyes1

I can't believe you actually just wrote that. :sad2: :sad2:

Non American citizens reading this thread, please do not believe for one second that most Americans feel this way.

Well said! To recall what Colin Powell said; "The only land we have ever asked for is enough land to bury our dead".

I think that President Bush has been clear from the outset that Iran will not be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons and has left no doubt about that. The American public will not be surprised by any action we take against Iran or the support we lend to Israel if they do. You are looking for some subtrifuge that doesn't exist.

Yet he approves of Pakistan (which can hardly be called a stable country) having them. So, unstable country with regime not to the liking of GWB doesn't get to have nukes, but unstable country with regime GWB approves of (for the moment, anyway) gets to have them. Both unstable, very dangerous countries...... but a different standard. Sorry, makes no sense to me.

So, do you actually believe you are morally superior to any other citizen of any other country, because you are an American citizen.

Are you saying that Timothy McVeigh was morally superior to the average British citizen, because he was an American?

Pakistan did their first nuclear test in 1998. Who was president then? Its is a lot easier to prevent an unstable government from acquiring nukes, than it is to disarm them once they have them.

I always said nothing posted here could shock me anymore. Just goes to show, never say never. :sad2:

"WE", the collective WE, as in United States of America.

Sounds like a very convenient answer to me. Since when is something too hard for our commander in chief once he sets his mind to it?

Even the morally part? Have you looked around Washington D.C. lately? And you can still say that with a straight face?

So are you saying that "WE" , are morally superior to the British?

I believe the discussion wasn't a comparison of our friends and allies but a comparison of those who are not. Can you think of a more moral superpower??

The poster did not differentiate that at all. She made a blanket statement that you "thumbs up" agreed with. Now you are just trying to justify your post.
