As it happens we will be in Disney for my daughters 23rd b'day. She has always wanted to eat "French" after taking French in HS. So my question,

Has anyone eaten there? if so, Really what was the food like? Was it a good experience?

I am a meat and potatoes sort of person, I do not eat odd stuff, so will I find something on the menu that I can enjoy if I book ADR there?

It will just be the two of us and being on DDP the cost is not an issue, just wondering if in others opinion, should I give it a try?

I have read the menu here on Dis and other sites, but honestly the description tends to overwhelm me.

Thanks for any help:worship:.

it's French cafe food...think basic French diner food. Not "fine" French dining. The menu is in French & English, so easy for all to understand.

You can get meat & potatoes...or meat & fairly plain noodles. The chicken is like rotisserie chicken - not elaborate.

The French onion soup is excellent, as is the macaroni & cheese (NOT your blue-box mac & cheese, though...much richer cheeses and not bright orange, lol.)

LOVE the profitaroles for dessert.

I had the lobster bisque and the beef tenderloin. My gf had the french onion soup and the baked macaron w/cream and cheese.

mmmm mmmm mmmm....

We were just there on Sun and it was one of the best meals we have had a Disney (LeCellier is still no. 1). We had the greatest server (Vincent) and he just went out of his way to make sure everything was great. Two of us had the lobster bisque and two had the french onion soup - both were wonderful. Two had the french version of mac & cheese (again, wonderful), our son had the salmon and said it was the best he has had, and DH had the short ribs and they were extremely tender. We all ordered off the three course menu and used the dining plan for it. We will definitely be going back again. The chicken dinner that is on the menu looked really good to as the plates went by us. You won't be disappointed.

Ate there last xmas week and really enjoyed it. Best part is that DH and I both had the 3 course pirce-fix meals that you are able to use DDP for and get an app, entree and dessert(there are limited choices for all three, but if you like the choices its a great way to use DDP). DH had onion soup and beef and I had salad and salmon and all were delicious. Our waiter was from France and very attentive and nice. Desserts were also excellent, but I can't remember what we got? Sorry. You can see the menu at allears. We had avoided it in the past thinking it may be too much and a bit intimidating, but it was not....Enjoyed it better than some signature restaurants ( Brown Derby).

I went with my 3 kids in 8/08. Food was good, but service was not. Had to request my daughters kids meal 3x before it was actually delivered. And it was cold when she got it. Also very loud. Nice setting.

went with my 3 kids (17, 22, and 31) and we loved it. IMO it's just "french" enough to be different (one of my sons had duck!) but not too far out. I think you will all be pleased... we were. It was one of our best meals (we too considered it second only to LeCellier!)

We have eaten there several times for dinner and lunch.
The onion soup is really good with the quiche at lunch.
For dinner we have tried:
The chicken (disappointing) the potatoes that came with it were "hash-brown" type.
The filet is not as good as LeCellier IMO.
The short ribs were the best thing I have had.
The best dessert we have had was the chocolate/banana/coconut one??

Here I have some pictures that may help you.

Personally this was a first eating here last year for my family and it certainly will not be the last as for our next two trips we have ADR's here at Chef de France for both trips. And we have a picky eater in the family, she is the one who keeps requesting to come back! Very much enjoyed the food and service. Also I believe if you tell them it is your daughters birthday when you check in for your ADR they will sing her happy birthday in French. Not certain of this though. Hope this helps.

We love it and have been there nearly every time we've been to WDW (since EPCOT opened.) In my opinion, the food there has actually gotten better over the years. Normally not a roasted beef person myself, I ordered the braised beef short ribs (part of the prix fixe menu where you get appetizer, entree, and dessert for one TS credit). They were some of the best beef I have ever put in my mouth. They come with pasta, and you can get them plain with sauce on the side (see 2nd picture.) I had the creme brulee for dessert, but to me the best thing I had was the lobster bisque. I order from the prix fixe just for the bisque. My husband thinks it's worth going there just for the tomatoes that come with the roasted chicken. He raves about them all year and orders the same dish every time just for those. LOL.

Hope you have a wonderful celebration!!

We ate there last December and loved it!! The food was delicious! I had the beef tenderloin with scalloped potatoes...yum...and everyone else enjoyed their dinners, as well. The atmosphere was delightful, and we also got to enjoy watching Remy making his way across the room. We plan to go again on our next trip! :)

You are asking the right person! I am DEFINITELY a meat and potatoes girl!! We LOVE Chefs de France! They have a fantastic Filet that comes with au gratin potatoes!! YUMMY!! I don't eat the green beans because they are blanched... ick. :scared:
I also get the French Onion soup to start with!! If you like Filet Mignon this is a must! For the last few years the steak has been excellent for us... almost tears apart! :cloud9:
Definitely do it!! Although its a French place you can still enjoy it! Promise!! From one plain jane to another!! It is one I always look forward to! I appreciate a good steak! :goodvibes

I think the food there is like a boxed frozen dinner. The quality is definitely lacking, which is a very poor representation of French food. I would avoid the place.

If you do decide to go, don't be put off by the menu descriptions. It's actually really simple food. It just sounds fancy to us when it's described in French.

We eat lunch at Chefs every trip. I absolutely love it and most of the waiters look as appetizing as the food. :thumbsup2

Thank you to everyone who has posted. You have really helped me with my fears of everything French. The pictures were really helpful too, some things looked like moms cooking (she does have some French heritage). I just never thought anything we ate when growing up came from that heritage, always thought it was just her mothers West Virginia roots.:rotfl:

I digress, the pictures really helped and all the posts, even the negative made me think, just try the place, let my daughter have her French experience. Afterall it is only food.

I did not know about the fixed price menu there, I will check that out as I do with all ADR's since I try to prepare my tip envelopes before we even leave home

Looking forward to hearing Happy Birthday in French, well hoping to!

Thank You :worship:
