Cheerleaders OH NO!

I'll admit............ I haven't read through all of these post..........but, I just changed our dates, after having found out that a cheer competition is coming in on the 3rd!! We've been at Disney twice with the cheerleaders, the first time........... YIKES!!!!!!!!!!!! We had NO idea they would be there, and frankly, they were loud, obnoxious, and they were everywhere!!!!!!!! NOT one of them seemed to be aware that there was anyone else at Disney period......... the second time, it was our last day......... (thank goodness) and we along with our at the time 3 year old, awoke before 6 am to running, yelling, screaming cheerleaders............ they finally started "practicing" after they ran down the hall in front of the rooms, SCREAMING at each other!!! I DO NOT want to ever go back when they are there!!!!!!!!!!!! IF some groups don't do this........... well, then they must be exception to the MANY groups that do!!!!!!!! SO, YES, I'm changing our dates........... I don't want to hear it, or see it, or deal with it............ it's our vacation that we've worked for, and want to enjoy.......... and frankly have a right to enjoy it.......... YES, the cheerleaders have a right to go and have a good time as well, but NOT at the expense of RUINING lot's of others vacations............ that seems to be what the advocates are missing! I'm all for them having fun, but come on............ it gets WAY out of hand, and anyone who say's it doesn't has there head in a pom pom!!!!

OH - and the jealousy comment............... You MUST be kidding me......... are you seriously going to go there............... I WAS a cheerleader for many years, you need to get one thing straight...... everyone here complaining about these girls is NOT jealous............... AND, if you are implying what I think you are implying, it is frankly sickening!!!

OH - and the jealousy comment............... You MUST be kidding me......... are you seriously going to go there............... I WAS a cheerleader for many years, and was in the process of becomming a pro football cheerleader when I found out I was pregnant........... so it didn't happen, but get one thing straight...... everyone here complaining about these girls

Well since you were a cheerleader you must remeber how much fun it was and the excitement of it all. And also remeber that not ALL cheerleaders are obnoxious!

And as far as the Jealousy comment If you read ALL the posts you would see what I ment.

Yes, I do remember how much fun it was!!! I said that they have every right to enjoy themselves. I also never said "ALL" cheerleaders were obnoxious. What I said, and still say is that the groups we encountered on two seperate occassions WERE obnoxious. NO ONE here is pointing out YOUR group, You don't need to defend your group........

And yes we do practice at the hotels in the evening before a competition but at reasonable hours and in grass areas not just in a hotel room or anything like that.

No one said it was your group........ BUT I too have been awaken before 6 am by groups of screaming cheerleaders, so it HAS happened!!!! I'm not trying to upset you, or bash your group, but I think you may have missed the point........... SOME groups, and I state SOME, NOT ALL, but SOME, are totally oblivious to the fact that they are annoying to other guest.

Like I said, the girls have every right to thier excitement, and fun, go for it....... Hey, I live in LA, so fun is a way of life here, but when it is intruding on other guest and causing thier fun to be affected, it becomes a problem. You seem intelligent enough to at least agree if it wasn't a "problem" for some there wouldn't be so much debate about it.

I want the cheerleaders to have a blast, but also have little bit of respect for others around them, not everybody wants to here the chants, at the crack of dawn, or on the bus, or on the rides, or in the restaurants, or I could go on and on..................

I'm sure your group is wonderful, but please don't take my comments personally or feel as though I'm attacking your girls............... I'm not. I'm just telling what my personal experiences have been, and in the future I want to avoid.

PS ~ I have two sons in college, so I know all about the enjoyment of boys watching teenage girls.............. ;) especially cheerleaders........... like I said, been there done that.......... I'm just not into as much as my son's are!!!! Again, I hope I didn't offend you ~ it wasn't my intention too.

I too have had the misfortune of staying at an All Star resort during a cheerleading competition. We were witness to some very unruly groups, especially around the pool and food court. They seemed to take over the areas as their territory and expected all others to step aside.

I do not totally blame the chaperons. It seemed to be that there was one girl leading the group and the rest would follow her lead, no matter how obnoxious the behavior was. It is important to fit in at that age. However, the leader probably behaved this way no matter where she was. She just had a bigger audience to impress at WDW. This kind of behavior is the blame of the parents not a temporary chaperon.

I think you all who have answered to this remark and not getting it.
Im not saying YOU are jealous Im just saying that it is really strange that people have such a negative feeling when it comes to cheerleaders

The thing that you fail to understand here, is that all the discussion is about cheerleaders because there are HUGE conventions of them that go to Disney World....Although I'm sure there are other large teen groups that go to Disney, I think the cheerleading competitions are larger and therefore more noticeable. I'm sure if there were HUGE conventions of volleyball players or gymnasts or chess players at Disney screaming on buses you would be reading the same comments about them.

Of course it's exciting!!! But I don't understand how that excuses being incredibly rude, loud and obnoxious to perfect strangers trying to enjoy their vacation?

And yes, we know, not ALL cheerleaders are obnoxious! That's been said many times on these threads, but there must be SOME that are, otherwise this thread wouldn't be here!!!!!!! --

Its hard not to get defensive, I know you and everyone else is not saying out team. I guess its just being a parent you get defensive. I understand there are some bad seeds out there dont get me wrong. I will not take it personal and I thank you for you for not wanting to hurt feelings!! :goodvibes

However, if EVERY parent or chaperone is going to play naive to it and say "No, not my group", then there's an issue. And I think (from the replies from different posters on this board), this is the case, which is why the behavior continues.

But with comments like this you just tend to get a bit defensive. :confused3

My daughter has been at DW with us, when cheerleaders were there (not the college ones..they were fine, but the 12 - 18 year olds). She says she's sure HER daughter and their team will be well watched (they have a shot at it this year!) and the people watching them would never be at the bar while her daughter ran around and was rude. In fact she's sure that their team would never act like what we saw on a few trips.

Of course she also said, no way would her daughter ever be allowed to go, unless she was a chaperone, seeing what she saw LOL!

We loved the one group that was at Sports when we saw the cheerleaders at their best (not). Based on past experience, the chaperone was going down the rooms at night, putting masking tape high on each room. She explained, if the tape was broken in the morning, any of the girls in that room, would not be competing.

We also saw some well behaved girls, but they were lost in the shuffle of the loud, obnoxious ones, and their oblivious champerones.

will be in Disneyworld? I have seen some posts for January and others for February - does anyone have the exact dates that this happens? We are going from February 3rd through February 10th and I don't think I will mind it if they are there for just 1-2 days that we are there...

Thanks in advance.

Someone made a good point, why aren't the so called chaparones controlling the groups that are causing these problems for other guests? Now, that includes school groups and Brazilian tour groups as well as cheerleading groups. :crazy2: :cheer2: :scared:

Large groups of people that: groom themselves in dining areas, lay on the sidewalks working on their tans in front of restaurants, hijack a bus and turn it into some awful, loud sing along journey from you know where or break into cheer/song and dance rountines in crowds or lines or anywhere else that others can't get away from them, are not being very considerate of others. I don't care what or who their group is. I have seen groups of cheerleaders do all of the above mentioned things. I have also seen other large groups or tours do them. :confused3

My only question is, if you were awakened by any group at 5am, or 6AM would you complain? and did you??

I believe if Disney received thousands of calls complaining about the cheerleaders practicing at 6AM they would do something, but since they dont receive enough complaints to make a change, they dont try to contain that excitement - it must be good for their business!!

I stayed at AllStars Sports one year and they were annoying. Their cheering, their attitudes, their preening, their taking-over-the-pool-area. I hate to say it but I wish Disney had never allowed them in. I avoid going when they're there but then I can be flexible.

You might want to go and see how it goes for you.

If funny reading these threads as all the "cheer moms" little princesses are never unruly or loud or rude. Wake up people if you get a group of girls/women together there going to be loud and probably obnoxious. Its just a female thing so just plan around it cause Disney isn't going to do anything about it.

BINGO!

They want everyone's money. They handle the "resort smoking issue" the same way.....they ignore it or move the offended party.

I was at DL last Feb. and there was some type of cheer competion going on their while we were there. Good thing we were on concierge level (Paradise Pier) so we didn't have to deal with yelling and screaming 24 hrs a day!!

Sadly, you are correct. Disney always seems to inconvenience the offended as opposed to the offenders. Same thing with smokers in the park - CM just ignore it.

Perhaps they figure why disturb a family or group that is having a great time. Move the ones that are complaining so they feel like something was done about their complaint.

The only time I have complained about a particular group, was an especially annoying group of of teenage girls doing one another's hair at the tables at Crystal Palace. This was the same group that had been sunbathing on the sidewalk. :rolleyes1

I totally understand what you are saying... (and I agree with you!)

What I meant, and wonder about.... is if Disney kept getting hundreds of thousands of complaint letters (after the fact, prior to the fact) would that make a difference?

This issue comes up every year on the boards, and it is a passionate issue... I was a "hockey" mom, that our teams traveled and stayed in hotels, the hotels had a list of rules we had to follow - surely this isnt different from any other traveling sport!

My point is that Disney should make provisions for all their guests... not that they do currently, as we obviously read about all the time!! So I would hope that the thousands that read the thread would join in a letter writing campaign....

Hope springs eternal in my soul!!

AGAIN not ALL cheerleaders are rude and obnoxious!!!!!!
Im sorry you have ran into teams in the past that were this way but I can assure you not ALL act this way.
I go to Disney about every 4 months and I have not run into these rude cheerleaders but like I said I HAVE run into rude obnoxious familys and other groups.
I sometimes wonder if people just dislike "cheerleaders" in general just out of some wierd childish sort of jealousy??!!!!

I was a cheerleader so there isn't a childish jealousy here, but I won't go when the cheerleaders are in Disney. We got to Disney just about every month or two for a long weekend and have made the mistake more than once of being here while the cheerleaders on here and I won't make that mistake again. Last time we were staying at the Yacht Club as were some of the cheerleaders and their parents and they were practicing some of the cheers in the hallways! I wouldn't categorize them as rude and obnoxious but anytime you put together a large group of very excited and energetic teenage girls you are going to get noise, a tremendous amount of chatter and the like that go along with this. Combine this with girls who are excited about being in competitions and want to win and sometimes common sense does go out the window. I have problems with waiting on line for the ladies room with a small amount of cheerleaders in front of me and then 20 more showing up just off the Tower of Terror and cutting to be with their friends. I have even more of a problem when I don't see a lot of the parents that are there with them telling them to wait their turn.
Just like I don't care to go when it's Easter as the parks are way too crowded and people are not as considerate, the time that the cheerleaders are there is also a time when I find it to not be as pleasant of an experience for me and one that my family tries to stay away from.

we were there Dec.2003 and did notice the cheerleaders at the Magic kingdom, they cut in front of us to meet Alice, and in the resturant, very loud...doing hair at the table and the mothers were right there with them-they had a superior attitude. :cheer2: :earboy2:
