DS (18) has every respect for the cheerleader's stringent regime

He has quite bad asthma but trains as a basketball player - for one of the major junior teams in South Yorkshire

This was one of the reasons he was so upset to miss their performance on our Feb trip
There were other reasons of course.....

That is toooooo cute!!! Im sure it is every teenage boys dream!!!!
We were staying at the Beach club once and Miss American or USA I dont remember contestants were staying at the hotel!! I thought the same thing that I bet allot of teenage boys are REALLY happy they were staying there!!

These competitions are usually in February. My lil sis has been going to nationals for high school and college for the last 8 yrs.

OK, assuming you stay at a deluxe, how "visible" are the cheerleaders at the parks? I'm guessing they won't be a problem at the resort or on the busses, but if they're in the lines at the parks doing cheers the whole time, I'll go crazy!

When we went during Pop Warner this past December, we stayed at POFQ and there was only a couple Pop groups there (and one of those groups managed to get themselves kicked out) so I didn't notice them much at the resort. -- the buses were another story though

As for the parks, I mainly saw them at MK and MGM and mostly at night. I don't remember seeing any at Epcot or Animal Kingdom at all.

My biggest problem (aside from the screaming...not giggling, laughing and talking...screaming!...) was that when you did see them, they were in groups and constantly stopped to talk, blocking walkways. It drove me crazy! This was especially true at DTD one night. You couldn't move for the cheer groups and the Rainforest was full of them. Matter of fact the Rainforest picked up our tab because not once but twice, they knocked into our table and spilled our drinks.

Of course teens are teens, but I will pass on spending vacation time at a park filled with them ever again and I don't care if they are cheerleaders or harmonica players!

DD7 is an allstar cheerleader on two teams this year (pee wee and mini). Unfortunately, we don't go to WDW to compete although that would be her dream come true. I don't know how most gyms are but our girls have curfews that are fairly early the night before competition. The parents and cheerleaders are expected to act appropriately, we are representing our gym. After being at large competitions I would go in a heartbeat even if DD wasn't a cheerleader.

As to the referral of "real" cheerleaders. DD practices 5 days a week 2 hours each time. How more "real" can you get? DD has also cheered for school so to me a cheerleader is a cheerleader no matter if they are an allstar, school or youth league cheerleader. And I do agree with who said we pay and pay, that's an understatement but she loves it so it's worth it.

We will be in orlando for two different competitions this year one in January then one in March. one is at Seaworld the other at the swan and Dolphin.

Being the Mom of a 'real' cheerleader who made the squad by actually trying out, I do know how hard these girls work. what I don't get is, who do the Pop Warner/ All stars cheer for if they don't have a team to root for? are they a dance team or something? then why call themselves 'cheerleaders' if they have nobody to cheer for?? why wear a cheer uniform if there is no team? I just don't get it.

No, I guess you don't get it!!!

1) All four of my girls are/were Pop Warner cheerleaders for EIGHT YEARS! (this year I have two student coaches and two cheerleaders) the girls cheer for football teams AND compete (they wear a CHEERLEADER uniform). As a matter of fact they have to actually QUALIFY at each level to advance on, that's COMPETITION . . . not having try-outs makes this a BIGGER accomplishment!! So why wouldn't you call Pop Warner cheerleaders "real cheerleaders"????

2) All-Star cheerleading is a SPORT on its own. My dd14 was involved in this SPORT for two years. I guess you could say they cheer for themselves!! I don't see a thing wrong with that!! Have you ever seen them on ESPN? They are TRUE althetes. They do try out, so they are "real" cheerleaders (in your eyes) !!!

3) dd14 is now a high school competitive cheerleader, she had to try out and made it!! Yeah for her! Does this FINALLY make her a "real cheerleader"???

The way I see it my girls have been "real cheerleaders" all along!!!

Absolutely the only problem we had during our trip in December were the loud, obnoxious cheerleaders and their chaperones. The chaperones were either non-existant or just as loud and obnoxious as their children. Suffice it to say, never again will we go at the same time there is a cheer competition. I'm glad the girls are having fun, but I do wish their chaperones would do a better job of keeping them under control. Twenty screaming people on a bus/ride in not cute, it is seriously rude.

In professional wrestling the outcome is staged.
In cheerleading they compete and the winner is picked that way. I dont think you could really watch a cheerleading competition and not think it is a sport!
To me if you practice 3 or more times a week. So that you are ready to go head to head against several other teams in your division who have equally worked hard to get to were they are. You cant tell me that is not a sport.
Football is a sport right? they practice and compete correct??? What part of competition cheerleading do you not find a sport?? Just curious??

For me it would be the part where they scream like lunatics on the buses, talk on their cellphones to their friend sitting 2 seats behind them, wake up at 5:00AM and decide to wake the rest of the resort up with them.

That has nothing to do with the "sport" which is where they compete.
Im sure if you get a GROUP of anyone including family reunions,convention people,school groups,ect......... they can act that way.
Not just because they are cheerleaders.
It does not however answer my question.

To me, these competitions should be reminded, you're not just chaperoning to take care of these girls, you're chaperoning to make sure they don't bother the heck out of other guests - And on that level, they fail miserably.

I agree there are allways going to be a few bad seeds. But not ALL teams act horrible. I have been on buses where I have seen screaming kids and rude adults and they were not with any organization they were just rude familys!!!

As for it being a sport, I guess it is. I'm sure it takes a lot of hard work and dedication. My only question is, what is it about hard work and dedication that you think gives you the right to act so completely obnoxious? I work hard at my job and I'm dedicated - I don't wake up at 5:00AM and let everybody know it though.

Im sorry you have ran into teams in the past that were this way but I can assure you not ALL act this way.
I go to Disney about every 4 months and I have not run into these rude cheerleaders but like I said I HAVE run into rude obnoxious familys and other groups.
I sometimes wonder if people just dislike "cheerleaders" in general just out of some wierd childish sort of jealousy??!!!!

I'm sorry - That waking up at 5:00 or 6:00AM crap to practice, so they can have more time in the park, is just bogus. You want more time in the park, practice when you get back. Don't wakt everyone else in the resort up with that.

Im not sure what you are talking about there??? We have never gotten up and practiced at 5 or 6 in the morning at the hotel. We have gotten up at this time to get ready and leave for the competion and we do practice there but it is in practice areas. And yes we do practice at the hotels in the evening before a competition but at reasonable hours and in grass areas not just in a hotel room or anything like that.

We were there with the cheerleaders this February and they were fairly annoying, and there were hundreds of them in the parks when we were. We stayed at the WL, which only had a few cheerleaders that I noticed, but they were everywhere in the MK and at MGM. We saw the same annoying groups over and over - I actually wondered if some of the teams were competing at all!

Yep, I've seen obnoxious familys at Disney too, but since it's just one family, what are the odds of running into them all over on your whole trip?

I think part of the problem is the sheer numbers of the cheerleaders. You see them everywhere because there are so many of them...you get away from one group, turn a corner and there is another group. KWIM?

Someone said the cheerleaders on a bus are no more annoying than a screaming 2 year old on a bus and I might tend to agree, but there isn't a whole convention of 2 year olds there the same time as you and you don't run the risk of getting a screaming 2 year old on every bus.

I think you all who have answered to this remark and not getting it.
Im not saying YOU are jealous Im just saying that it is really strange that people have such a negative feeling when it comes to cheerleaders and this is not just here, look at how they are portrayed on tv,movies ect...
And really all the cheerleaders we have been around (our team) are the sweetest group of kids I am so glad my DD is exposed to these kids.

Well, I guess bottom line is just try and find out when cheerleaders will be in Disney so these horrible rude obnoxious creatures do not ruin your vacation.
That would be anytime between Dec-April.
