Does anyone know if there's a cheerleading/dance thing going on at DL that would affect crowds in mid-April? Do you know what dates they will be at what parks so my friend can adjust her schedule?

Thanks! pirate:

eep! That is MOST definitely a time to stay away.

A poster posted this at least 9 times yesterday on varoius threads warning of the evil cheerleaders!

http://disboards.com/showpost.php?p=24012712&postcount=20

My impression is that she IS a cheerleader and is just hoping to keep the (non-cheerleader) crowds away. So I would take anything she said with a grain of salt. She just signed up this month and ALL her posts are related to dire warnings of staying away April 18-20. I wonder how effective that will be.

He he. Out of 15 posts, 13 are warning of the cheerleader apocalypse APRIL 18-20!!!!

I wonder if the strategy will backfire. If I were twenty years younger and not married I might jump at the chance to go then. The whole park would be Fantasyland! :cheer2:

I've been during a recent cheerleader weekend earlier this month, and ugh! The park was very, very busy.

I assure you, I am no cheerleader, I am a 26 year old male.

You obviously have a "glass half empty" outlook on life if you think my intentions are negative. I am simply trying to provide the information necessary for people to plan a trip where they can actually enjoy their time, unlike myself last year. I had the unfortunate experience of being at the park when it was going on and it was almost unbareable it was so croweded.

Also, this is part of someone elses post on another thread....

"You also have a couple hundred thousand people flying in for the Long Beach Grand Prix that weekend as well and my fiancee and I will be flying in for the race that weekend (April 18th through the 20th).

A wild guess of mine is that people overseas who are flying in for the race will go to Disneyland at some point during their stay with Disney just being a few miles away."

When we were there last month there were a ton of cheerleaders. They cancelled the Aladdin show and had some awards thing going on instead. So, we ran to DL when they were doing awards and it wasn't as bad. It was still unexpectedly busy but it was manageable.

GoDisney, I noticed your posts yesterday and wondered if you were affiliated or just trying to offer a warning. I did appreciate it myself as we were actually discussing 2 weekends this month and that was the second one we were considering. Once I realized the cheer convention was in town and mentioned it to the family we quickly decided to skip it and just go in May. LOL

Well I'm glad I can help. I am truly attempting to offer a warning, as I was not so fortunate last year. I remember thinking (as I stood in a 2 hour line for Space Mountain) that I wish someone would have warned me before hand.

I've also recently learned that the Long Beach Grand Prix will also be held on April 18-20, which brings in over 100,000 people. So you made the correct decision in changing weekends.

I never said your intentions were negative, only that your motivation was suspect. You're a brand new member whose only posts relate to NOT going between April 18-20. You also claimed that you checked into it and spring break was over and that April 1-10 is a good time to go, despite flight costs, hotel bookings, Disneyland extended hours, and promotion blackout dates. You've also stated that you were there last year and if I had to put money on it, I'd bet you'll be there this year as well. :3dglasses

I was correct in my statements that MOST of the schools are done with spring break in the range of April 1-10th. Go ahead and check it out if you want.

Also, I will most definately NOT be attending the park when that damn cheer and dance competition is going on this year. It was such a frustrating experience, thinking that the crowds were going to be light, only to find the park absolutely packed. I am just trying to give people a heads up, something I wish I had before I went last year.

I have checked it out!!! We ARE going for my kids' spring break!

The fact that you're trying so hard to convince people is what's questionable.

You clearly don't understand what I am saying. Just because YOUR kids are on spring break, doesn't mean EVERYONE else is as well. You obviously have not checked because MOST schools are done with spring break by that time.

I am trying so hard because I want to try and help people get informed about when that cheer and dance thing is taking place. Like I said before, I wish someone had warned me prior to my trip last year, so that is what I am attempting to do. Sorry if you are too cynical to appreciate my efforts.

Plane tickets are purchased and HOJO's is booked so we are Disneyland bound that weekend! My friend and I plan on being the silliest 40 somethings with a bunch of teenaged cheerleaders. After a couple of glasses of wine we hope that we can out cheer them!!:cheer2: RAH! RAH!!!!

See, I was once a 26 year old male too. But as one gets older one learns a thing or two (hopefully). One thing I've learned is that at times people will use the tactic of attacking someone's personality or character when engaging in a debate rather than argue the facts. You've done that twice now by calling me "cynical" and a "glass half empty" type of person. That may be true, but it does not have any relevance to the facts, which, as you stated, are:

I have checked on school spring break dates, and while some schools do have spring break in April, the vast majority are already over.

and

The beginning of April (1st-10th, 2008) will be a good time to go with very minimal crowds

Both of these statements are incorrect and are NOT helpful to those of us who are NOT going April 18-20, but instead, are going during the first week of April. So while it may very well be that you are trying to help some people, your approach is not helpful to others. It is prudence and not cynicism that causes me to be wary of your advice.

I was not attacking your character at all, I was simply pointing out the fact that you are trying to find an alterior motive in my efforts to help, which in turn, is very cynical of you.

Second, I am NOT incorrect in my statement that the MAJORITY of schools are done with spring break in the beginning of April, so you really need to let that one go.

And finally, yes, the crowds will be minimal in early April compared to the crowds in the coming months.

Sorry if you don't want people coming to Disneyland when you are going to be there, but you need to stop pretending like early April crowded time to go, because it really isn't.

You know, only time and attendance records will show how crowded the beginning of April 2008 will truly be. My bet is on pretty darn crowded, and it seems that Disney management who are setting the park hours at DLR are expecting the same.
